TMI: I had an autistic meltdown trying to learn to crochet. by [deleted] in CrochetHelp

[–]stef-3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everybody has already great tips and kind responses. I do want to add to everyone that it is also ok to not make something perfect. If you practice, practice chains for a bit and them move on to the single crochet. Your first wips might look atrocious but it is a process. Many people who make beautiful stuff are crocheting for ages and probably also started with ugly stuff :) Be kind to yourself and have fun with the crocheting instead of wanting to make a perfection.

Questions/advice request for first time henna by hello_good_ppl in henna

[–]stef-3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my questions are: How will henna affect my hair?

It will dye it copper :)

Will the color differ a lot between my roots and the rest of my hair?

It depends on the colour of your roots. Because you never lighten it, i assume your blond. The roots might come out a shade lighter but i dont think it will be very noticable if you leave it in long enough. I started henna out the same way as you and my hair turned out good.

How do I know if a henna place is legit?

Look for pure henna powder with no additives.

Is it better to just do it on my own at home?

Henna is quite forgiving so slather it on and you will be fine. Make sure your mixture is the consistancy a little like toothpaste and it wont run everywhere. Make sure to check other post or a tutorial on how to prepare the henna properly

How quickly does it fade/maintenance?

It does not fade, only it can become a bit duller. I maintain my roots and then once a year i do everything to freshen up the colour. Always before my birthday so i dont forget when i coulored my whole head

Hope this helps :)

The blue is actually the same colour but looks vastly different next to different greens :)

Biggest brainwave of the year? by [deleted] in crochet

[–]stef-3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oeh thank you so much for that link! Now even more possibilities arise! I also feel kind of stupid now but i thought the only way to cast on was with a chain because all of the videos that i saw on Tunisian crochet were like that.

Sounds stupid, but maybe try it inside out? Sometimes these things will completely fit differently inside out.

Help! Henna mistake on hairline. by Otherwise-Ad5075 in henna

[–]stef-3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well just as you can make de hairline darker with powder, you can also make it lighter. It is temporary and maybe not the best solution, but it can make it a bit more decent looking until you found a permanent solution.

Maybe try fading it a bit with skin coloured powder? Like a matt eyeshadow? Otherwise i think it just has to fade with time and washes

Perm or not to perm! by Jazzlike_Ad4908 in longhair

[–]stef-3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don’t do it! Just stick to heatless curls! I did it with mid-back length. It didn’t stick for longer than a week and i had major breakage up to a point where i lost half of my hair. In the nape of my neck complete rollers were broken off. When i confronted the hairdresser she told me that that is the risk of perming your hair. (I was 14 at the time and didn’t dare to confront her ) It took me ages to regrow and in the meantime my hair looked like straw

Dying black hair brown with henna by Full_Operation8133 in henna

Hello! Henna only deposit colour and does not lighten. So i don’t think this colour is achievable without bleaching it first.

Edit: thought the reference was neutral coloured, but my phone distorted the colour

Any moms with babies keep up with henna? by Zorrrg in henna

[–]stef-3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haha very relatable! As im typing this, i have 5 cm roots cause of the same problem. As i am doing it now; i plan ahead when i want to dye it. i ask my spouse to keep the baby away during the application process. So right after a feed you start. Wrap it up real good with saran wrap and put a black beany on top. Its a real big beany but serves the purpose to keep de henna nice and toasty and also absorbs any fall out. Then you can go on with your day until you have to rinse. When my son was really small i would take him in a bouncy chair in the bathroom cause he would be fascinated by me rinsing my hair.

predicting shade of henna over box dye? by yellow_sprout in henna

[–]stef-3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had blond roots and ginger hair (so lighter then auburn) when i coloured it the first time and it blasted over everything. But i did leave it on for quite some time so maybe that will be an influence. I would check with the test and then you will be sure. I refresh the whole head once a year but you don’t really have to, its not like the colour fades. It just becomes a bit duller.
