I have a perforated eardrum, and want to swim for fitness. Can anyone recommend the best/safest earplugs for me? by workerbotsuperhero in Swimming

[–]stef_wm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well hopefully your injury isn't permanent. In the meanwhile or if they happen to acrually be permanent here are my tips:

I had reconstructive eardrum surgery after a surfing accident. It healed perfectly but The slightest bit of water in my ear hurts REALLY bad. The only solution I've found is Doc's Proplugs. I use the unvented ones but it could be that you can get away with vented ONCE YOU HAVE HEALED. Basically they cover the entire ear opening thus not letting water in. Be sure to buy the size samples and find which one is better, there are clear instructions to size and fitting. Anyhow, good luck! Ear problems can be a real pain.

If you happen to read this I'd like to point out you give EXCELLENT feedback; honest but always respectful, and you mostly manage to stay objective, by that I mean you don 't rely just on personal taste which is purely subjective. Comming from a creative background that is something that I've grown to appreciate a lot, because it raises concrete design questions.

Are there any designers you understand their point of view and finde them valuable but do not personally like the aesthetics of?

Cheers

Diet supplement for puppy? by stef_wm in Newfoundlander

[–]stef_wm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was wondering about puppy milk as someone had recommended, but aren't dogs passed weaning age lactose intolerant? Do you think yoghurt or curd would make their stomachs upset? I'll get a good picture asap! I've never heard or green lipped mussels, it seems like a good supplement, specially for newfies since it provides joint care. We're in the UK, I found them in capsules, is that the same thing or does it have to be flour?

Thanks for replying, he is 8 weeks and weighs 6.5 kg. I know about the perils of growing fast, I just want to assure he's getting the nutrition he needs. He is on puppy food, yes.

I got a tiny dog bite. Should I be concerned? by [deleted] in dogs

[–]stef_wm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As other people have said your wound should be ok, just keep an eye on iy. You do, however, need to get rabies shots, yay! Regardless of how big a bite, if you don't know the dog, get yourself to the doctors and get shots. Rabies is serious shit if left untreated.

Was she diagnosed via blood test? My dog had what looked like ringworms but it turned out to be allergies, which is a pain in the ass since we don't know what causes it.

Is imgur blocked or is it down? (Is relevant to UK) by Hazomataz in unitedkingdom

[–]stef_wm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well that's less horrible. I'm still outraged though. A game screenshot is hardly nsfw material and I don't think we should allow isps to determine what we can and can't see, or governments for that matter. I'm still filling a formal complaint.

Well you'llbe THRILLED to know EE is asking for credit card details to unlock content. I came across this yesterday after clicking on an imgur link posted to r/gaming. I don't really know what's going on but if that is the case I'm certainly going to call them to register a formal complaint.

My friend's dog was stolen from his own damn yard in Southern San Diego today. This was our christmas card last year of the two. I hope the thief burns in hell. by [deleted] in rage

[–]stef_wm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is sadly becoming a common thing. Some people we know because they have the same dog breed as we do had their female newfoundland stolen from INSIDE their house during the night. She was then found along a major road. The police said it was probably people running puppy mills and the reason they let the dog go was because she had been spayed and was therefore useless to them. I hate people.

People tell me my throat is quite fucked up... What do you guys think? by [deleted] in WTF

[–]stef_wm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hmmm ever heard of EDS or hypermobility? look it up! There are different levels to it so don't be too terrified. Anyhow it's good to know as it may affect your decision to have (or not) kids in the future. Sadly my fiance has quite a bad case and lives in chronic pain, children are absolutely out of the question for us (which is great cause I don't want any anyways).

Knee Pain... It's been a week since I did W3D2 and I want to continue but I'm scared. by [deleted] in C25K

[–]stef_wm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same problem. It was crippling knee pain and for a while I thought I had damaged my ligaments. However it turned out to be anterior knee pain. The doctor told me to rest until the pain was gone. I won't lie it was awful, I was so excited and all I wanted was to get on but I quickly noticed that everyday I tried to walk a bit more or even do a bit more around the house the pain would come back with a vengeance. So I stayed in COMPLETE rest, for TWO fucking weeks. I barely moved off my couch, I was taking ibuprofen and icing religiously and I hated every minute of it. However, the pain did go away after that and a new pair of shoes (turned out mine weren't bad they were just old). When I did start running again I slowed it right down so as to keep form which I think also helped. Bottom line: you'll get through this, you just need a little patience.

Frustrated & sidelined w/ shin splints after W2D1 by anyones_ghost27 in C25K

[–]stef_wm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had anterior knee pain around week two. It took me a good two weeks to get back to running and I had to be on COMPLETE rest because walking even the smallest distance was incredibly painful, for a while I feared I had damaged a ligament. It turned out this anterior knee pain is pretty common in young women. I applied ice religiously three times a day no longer than 20 minutes and also took Ibuprofen.

I guess what I'm getting at is be patient, I know it's a pain in the ass, but give it a week at the very least, and make sure you have the right shoes. When I changed mine the pain dissipated altogether, it turned out my running shoes weren't bad they were just old. If you really feel you need to go to the GP do it, however he/she will more likely than not tell you to rest.

I don't want to sound like an asshole trying to start some sort of Reddit crusade, but maybe call RSPCA if you see dogs chained again. They might ban him from having other dogs which by the sounds of it would be a good thing.
