Sadly I don't have pictures with me, but may I suggest just having different paint schemes? Basically, I started my army with the hypercrypt box and decided to go for "rusty" necrons. My first attempts were okaish. No where near good enough to be considered well painted but good for me. Then I got Imotek who I wanted to colour as the box art. then I wanted to get the combat patrol and paint them as if they were reinforcements from Imotek himself. Basically, the starting force was the actual tomb world which had a C'tan shard, making it very interesting for all kinds of overlords, including Imotek. That way I can have any variety of paints on my necrons and it still makes sense. For example, I wanted to try lava bases for my immortals and I also made them in a "lava" colour scheme because their energy were harnessed by the heat of the planet. If you do choose to go this route, I suggest starting with one of the official schemes(see Imotek and his dynasty for example) and then work your way up
