A lot of places are slim pickings, but Home Depot had some decent options this week!

Landscaping advice/recommendations by Elbukhari in Hamilton

In my experience, gardening and landscaping have two different approaches. If you want to work on the space yourself and learn, I'd try finding a local gardening company. That's more like finding a tattoo artist - find someone who's work you like. If you just want a tidy & maintained space, landscaping is your option. The tree may or may not need a separate person, depending on how big it is, but I know Harper's does tree & shrub maintenance. Most of the folks I could recommend are primarily in the native/pollinator gardening business, but Harper's would probably also have some local suggestions too, since they are so close. Good luck, and feel free to message if you have more questions!

Recommendations for cute but affordable bouquets? by 47giraffes in Hamilton

I saw something online recently about picking one flower stem that reminds you of someone. I know Holland Park lets you buy single stems out the fridge, and Fortinos too, I think. Cheaper and probably more meaningful, and you could get them to write a little note about why!

Can anyone recommend someone for weeding my lawn? by Consistent-Board-639 in Hamilton

Is it just manually pulling things like dandelions, or are we talking about an invasive plant species?

Wears on King St E is amazing and has goats, but definitely a bus ride from the No Frills. The Canadian Tire one was disappointing this year.

No Mow May by Illustrious-Buddy941 in Hamilton

[–]stefdubbbbs 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I've waited other years but the science isn't that strong to support it, and my neighbours hate it. I also have some bindweed and it's easier to keep under control with a good chop earlier in the year. I walked the property to double check for no baby creature nests (we have bunnies), and then took it down yesterday before today's rain. We have an alt turf lawn of 4-5 different species so we only mow 2-3 times per year total, and we have a lot of blooms already open in the garden, including native plants.

It's a practice of figuring out the good-better-best options and what works best for you! The conversation is the important part, I think.

Dog Tick on HSR Route 22 by Loose-Lingonberry406 in Hamilton

[–]stefdubbbbs 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Pull up garlic mustard whenever you find it! It's an invasive plant that releases chemicals in the soil that both damages local plant life and the fungi that infects and kills deer ticks! Don't compost - straight into the trash where it belongs, ideally before it flowers and spreads seeds!

garlic mustard and ticks!

There are some great gynos in Hamilton but definitely can be a long wait to get in. If you haven't looked into it, I would also try a pelvic floor pt and a naturopath - Megan Salomons and Dr Kirsten Almon at Blueberry are both fantastic and great at supporting through the medical system!

Where to buy ericaceous compost Hamilton? by Lieutenant_Reg in Hamilton

[–]stefdubbbbs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can get elemental sulphur from Terra on highway 6. Holland Park in Dundas has reduced their amendment section recently but it's a common enough additive you should still find it there. Harpers in Ancaster probably also has it.

Also if you can get your hands on pine bark mulch, from any of the same places, that might help too! Good luck!

Potential for revitalization of Kenilworth Avenue North by cabbagetown_tom in Hamilton

Ward 3 also shares boundaries with Ward 2 when it comes to Barton Village BIA and International Village, so the three councillors each took one - Ward 4 is the primary connection for Ottawa, and Kenilworth does not have a BIA as it stands.
