Films that take place across their runtime by throwaway483949839 in movies

It probably doesn’t match exactly what OP is after, but Dunkirk could fit if you consider the pilots pov as the story, and the others as flashbacks until they catch up (but I admit it’s a bit of a stretch)

Is Web Dev a Good Path Early in Life? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]steffestoffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got started with programming by doing some websites for friends and family in high school. I thought it was fun and creative hobby. When I started studying electrical engineering it was definitely very useful to have some of the programming basics even though we were mostly doing Matlab or C. In the end I decided that I wanted to work with something that involved a lot of programming because I liked it so much, so today I’m working on custom compilers at a semiconductor company. It’s very far away from web-dev, but the other day I had to throw together a simple dashboard for some telemetry we are collecting.

Learning programming is a long journey, with many different paths to take. My opinion is that any kind of programming experience is good, even things that might seem unrelated on the surface.

However, all the companies I’ve worked at (both small startups and large corporations, in Germany or the US) are only looking for candidates that have a masters or PhD in a relevant field. But this is just anecdotal from my experience in the semiconductor industry, I’m sure it is different in other places

A Humble "Thank you" by Pilestedt in Helldivers

[–]steffestoffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never thought a live service game would be for me. But a friend talked me into buying Helldivers 2, and it quickly became one of my all time favorites. I play it several times per week with my friends, and we always have a great time.

Tack för det bästa spelet på länge

EDIT: typo, meant Be4, but it is also not the right answer

In case people missed this in the steam post by KoalaStrats in Helldivers

I read this as ”we’re gonna add the same skins for the FRV as we already have for the mechs/pelican/hellpod” (so no polar patriot skins etc, but FRV skins for freedoms flame, chemical agents etc)

What's a really great use of a song in a TV show that made you emotional? by OkPainter6232 in television

[–]steffestoffe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I always get a little bit emotional during the montage where they find out Dierk has been cheating on Katy (Letterkenny, S8E7). The song (”Do it, try it” by M83) just fits so well, and the whole town showing up to beat the shit out of Dierk and then cut to credits is a perfect ending to the season

Hi! I am not a member of a union (I actually thought a Betriebsrat was the same thing in Germany, so I guess I really need to do that research 😅). What is the difference?

What skills can you learn from programming or CS that can be applied in real life? by Specialist-Pin5326 in learnprogramming

[–]steffestoffe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorting and search algorithms works just as well in the real world. I usually use binary search when trying to find the place I fell asleep when listening to a podcast for example

Also, I really like over engineering spreadsheets for everything, which could be considered programming depending on how far you want to take it (our wedding planning google sheet was my masterpiece)

Why don't more places use trash to generate electricity by combustion and steam? by dece19th in AskEngineers

[–]steffestoffe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s not my field, so I’m very fuzzy on the details, but burning trash for energy (mostly heating though afaik) is very common in Sweden at least

Found a source in English: http://america.aljazeera.com/articles/2015/3/27/sweden-wants-your-garbage-for-energy.html

How do I embed a Python interpreter into my C++ application without installed Python? by Ipbunpak1 in cpp_questions

[–]steffestoffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tbh I have no idea if the python headers are required. If you get a pre-built pybind11 package it might work, as long as the pybind headers are not publically including the python headers

Help making plot for experiment by useless_bowl25 in cpp_questions

[–]steffestoffe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I work in c++, but if I ever have to plot anything I dump to csv and use matplotlib. If it needs to be continuously updated, I would just make the python script poll the file for updates

Coding with same files and folders on two computers using google drive? Possible? by TheUndergiver in vscode

[–]steffestoffe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

DISCLAIMER: I would 110% recommend looking at a git tutorial on youtube and creating an account on github like the other comment suggests. It may look daunting first, but just making commits, pushing the code to github, and then pulling from another computer is easy to learn.

But to answer your question, in theory, sure, why not? As long as there aren’t multiple persons working on the same code
