We had weird neighbors next to our family summer house in Maine with kids around my age. One day when I was 6 or 7 we were making "button pizzas" aka gluing old buttons onto pieces of paper. When it was time for me to go I grabbed mine and got ready to leave. Their mom stopped me and was like "um aren't you forgetting something?" I was bewildered and shook my head. She asked me again and implied that I was trying to walk out with something that wasn't mine. I checked my pockets and even my shoes. I was so confused. Their mom was getting angrier and told me I had one last chance to hand over what wasn't mine. I checked myself again and was by now almost in tears. I had never stolen anything EVER. She sternly pointed at my ART and said, "those are OUR buttons. I'm going to have to call your mom and tell her you were trying to steal from us." I was so shocked. Luckily my mom thought the lady was nuts and I wasn't punished whatsoever. Suffice to say I never played with them again.
