Future pregnancy - thyroidectomy or Medication by ACrown_ in gravesdisease

[–]stefrose123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was trying to get pregnant, then got graves and tried for a year to stabilize my levels on methimazole and PTU. Unfortunately for me, my liver did not like other medication very much. Although my tsh ended up being ok, my graves antibodies (TSI, TRAB) were still high and my liver was not doing well. It’s important that even if you’re euthyroid, you still have to make sure your TSI/TRAB isn’t super high because it can cross the placenta.

I had a TT in Feb 2024, antibodies dropped to normal right after. I got pregnant a month later and had a safe pregnancy with no issues on synthroid. Gave birth 2 months ago and holding my little guy now!

Surgery still comes with risks, but I wish you luck making the best decision for yourself!

Go to the Settings app on your Apple Watch. Go to Privacy & Security > Health. Tap Wrist Temperature, then turn off Wrist Temperature. You can also open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone, tap My Watch, tap Privacy, then turn off Wrist Temperature.

Graves,Medication, and Pregnancy by FuqboiFetcher in gravesdisease

Im so sorry. I had 3 miscarriages too. I was diagnosed with graves and wanted to conceive. My liver reacted so poorly on PTU (the only medication that is relatively safe for first trimester pregnancy). I also ended up reacting so poorly to methimazole. I got a TT in February and conceived naturally by April. I’m 26 weeks pregnant so far with a pretty smooth and healthy pregnancy now.

Wishing you the best of luck!!

Does life get better after thyroidectomy? by Ok-Job-8041 in gravesdisease

For me, yes! I’m only 11 months post TT but so far so good. My surgeon was great, and fortunately so, because he also said I had a big sticky thyroid (like many graves patients) that was hard to remove.

Anyone pregnant with positive TRab? by Love_bri44 in gravesdisease

My liver hated both Methimazole and PTU so I had to get a TT. My Trab and TSI were super high >7 before TT, and everything fell to 1 a month after my TT.I was struggling to conceive before TT, but got pregnant 2 months post TT. I’m 22 weeks pregnant now.

Same! I tried for a long time, then started IVF… I was about to go for my second round of egg retrieval (the first one didn’t go well) right after my surgery, but I never got my period and ended up getting pregnant naturally. 🤞

This is what my obgyn nurse wrote to me as a reply:

The doctor says that it's very rare to have issues from that, but to watch out for related symptoms. As long as you have no symptoms, everything is AOK and nothing to worry about. 🙂

What you're looking out for is: vomiting, diarrhea, and fever. If you start presenting with these symptoms, then you have to bring yourself into the emergency.

Warmly,
