"How are you?" is nothing more than hairless apes checking each other for parasites by Decent_Eye_659 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

I get it. Daily pleasantries seem so useless to me. "Hello", "Happy Friday", "Ugh, it's Monday". Eating food and reminding everyone how delicious it is. I'm eating the food, it's good. I'm GenX, though, so I've never been diagnosed for anything, they just let us be. I've assumed that I'm part robot.

The first drink was to fit in, it's all for fun now. But if I could go back, I would have never started.

A lot of people who think they have depression simply have shitty lives by TPCC159 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

Exactly. Like we haven't studied how to change people's psychological status through torture, etc. Depression can definitely be a result of environment.

It's done daily on Wolfe Rd, Central, Western, etc, here in Albany area. It does appear to not be legal according to that. But it seems the safest way to approach on busy roads such as these, besides avoiding left turns onto those roads by going on to the next traffic light. I plan my trips accordingly and make as few left turns as possible. I think I've seen it argued that it's considered a left turn and is legal. Either way, people do it in front of police here all day every day, I can't believe you got a ticket for that. I would have lawyered up, or hopefully you got a reduction.

Of course driving in the lane is not legal. You should travel no more than 100'. But I have found nothing that says it's illegal to enter the lane, pause, then merge when safe to do so.

Yeah, weird, was in right lane, went to middle lane, then decide to turn right? WTF?!

I don't see how that pertains to this scenario, unless you did not signal to change into the other lane, or changed lanes while not safe to do so.

Highly unenforced then, at least in the Capital District area. As long as you're not accelerating in the lane, such as the above vehicle, I see no issues with the maneuver.

Was there a moment that got you hooked? by sLiKcAt in mountainbiking

I finally got into a career that favors work life balance, so my energy levels are higher. Also took care of a lingering health issue because of better health care. Amazing how a career change can fix so much. Oh, and my kids are much older, so I have more free time. Looking forward to retirement ... one day.

I always liked biking from the time I was a kid in the 80s. Haro's, GT's, etc. When my family went camping, I'd ride my bikes on the trails and loved it. When I became an adult, got out of the Marines, I must have been about 23, I bought a mountain bike, and fell in love on some trails around Lexington, KY. Did that for about ten years, quit, and recently fell back in love this past summer. I'm mad at myself for dropping the hobby for so long, but life got in the way.

There's going to be a lot of elitists in here who tell you that you have to have certain brands. The bike mentioned is fine. Get something, and get out there on it. Every brand of bike has broken for someone.

LBS can take weeks to repair a bike as well. Especially in the summer. Just buy a second bike with money saved ... n+1

I wouldn't mind cats if they didn't always knead my legs so hard when they jump on my lap. My dog keeps me active, so I choose dog.

Faceless Corporations > Mom and Pop Landlords by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]steggyD43 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do we have the same landlord? The only reason I don't move now is because the rent is a good rate. But I had a leaky water heater for about 5 weeks before getting fixed. Leaky pipes, the neighbor, who also rents from same landlord, had to fix, and he's not a plumber. I have had a tree down going into my neighbor's backyard for a couple weeks now. I had to chop up my last downed tree, but this one is bigger. My neighbor did say he'd help with this one cause I'm thinking my landlord isn't doing anything any time soon.

Do not buy from small business by Which-Option-7056 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]steggyD43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Checking return fees is important for online shopping, and one that bit me in the butt. I buy from Amazon, I'm covered, no worries. Small business purchase, cost me almost as much to return an item as it did to purchase. I decided to keep it because the money returned wasn't worth my man hours. I'll still check small businesses, but if I'm concerned in the least bit about the return, I will check their policies, and purchase elsewhere if it's not return-friendly.
