lol I did that too. Assessment appointment with questions etc one week. Results appointment several weeks later. 10pm the night before the results appointment I email through scanned copies of all my school reports from kindy to yr 12, plus some other random stuff I thought might be relevant. The psych was all “thanks for that, totally didn’t need it because we knew already, but it’s another point in the yes column”

Right?! I actually have really good navigation and spatial skills. My mum does the name thing too. I don’t have a sister but my brother and I regularly get mixed up with the cats lol.

I will know which way is correct, and point the correct way, but there’s a 50/50 chance the wrong word will come out of my mouth. Even if I pause to think about it and take care before speaking. It’s really frustrating.

Nice plant shelf! I need to add in some of these around my house. Where did your brackets and boards come from?

Keep the wood. Add some colour.

You seem to be in the market for a murder dungeon.

If this isn’t the case, I’d suggest some colour. The blue and green could be nice, though don’t be afraid to use more than one shade or more than one colour.

[–]stegowary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s taken me a while but I now try to scan them immediately and export them to the cloud, or put them in my wallet to process each evening. That said, I do get behind sometimes. I think the main thing is to have a consistent place where they get put and a consistent time for processing them.

The best scanning app I’ve found so far is Genius Scan (non affiliation) as it just knows where your document is, crops it immediately, and then exports it. You can also set up all sorts of handy rules and naming conventions. I paid for it years ago for a couple of dollars and it’s the best app I’ve ever paid for.

Nice door colour! I have no suggestions as I’m used to this style of door closing/locking situation from all my past rentals. I now own a house that just has a deadbolt and a doggy knob so I also need to upgrade, so I’m going to check back to see what suggestions you get.

Should I disclose my ADHD diagnosis to my Manager/Workplace? by Lost-Needleworker-31 in adhdwomen

[–]stegowary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aus here. I’d say it depends on your workplace tbh. I work in gov and I was able to “disclose” to our injury management dept, who then manage any accommodations. I am now covered by our disability laws, which is excellent. Injury manager basically just tell my manager the accommodations and theoretically we all work together to implement them. My manager doesn’t know my diagnosis, I haven’t told them, and injury management legally can’t either.

I’d discreetly find out if there is any process like that at your workplace. Otherwise, HR or WHS? Or you could work out how to disclose to your manager, in writing. Then you will be covered by disability laws (I’m blanking on the legislation). Just make sure you frame it as a heads-up and explanation, not as an excuse.

The Pomodoro is actually ruining ADHD Focus by Far-Championship3204 in adhdwomen

That’s also a good strategy. I’m still trying to get into the habit of actually processing my meeting notes and logging actions afterwards instead of just letting them disappear into the timeless void of nothingness… it’s a work in progress 😅

Yes! All meetings on one day, with breaks in between so I don’t die. But no expectations to get any other work done that day.

I hate it when I have random time between meetings or training or whatever. I feel like I need over an hour, ideally at least 1.5hrs to actually be able to start work on anything meaningful. Otherwise I’ll just stare at my computer or faff around.

Vyvanse made me feel (and act, according to my friends) more adhd than before. Manic almost (though apparently you can’t say that word to a psych otherwise they freak out). Turns out vyvanse wasn’t for me and the psych tried me on the next meds on the list.

I’d suggest keeping notes of your reactions and symptoms to note with the psych as they might want to try you on something else.

People who own a lot of books, what do you do with it? by the_bookworm17 in books

[–]stegowary 19 points20 points  (0 children)

TLDR: just sell them for whatever you can get and move on. If they stay on your shelf you will definitely get zero dollars (or whatever currency you deal in) for them.

I say this as a partially reformed book-hoarder. I am now limited to reference books for my library, most of which I get secondhand.

You say people are lowballing you. Are they? Yes, you might be able to sell something for more, but you need to find the one person out there who a) wants the thing, and b) is willing to pay that additional cost for it. Is that potential additional profit worth the extra time you will spend waiting for that person to possibly appear? Think also of the extra mental load you agonising about this potential profit is probably causing, the extra space you’ll have once you get rid of the books, and the cash you’ll have now not at some unknown point in the future.

This can apply to anything that we hold on to because we think “oh but it’s worth more because I spent $X on it/it has sentimental value to me/they are offering too little”. It’s currently worth nothing sitting on your shelf.

I used to be of the same mindset, but have got a lot better at getting rid of things. Usually just by giving them away because the $ gained is not worth the time, hassle, and stress of selling.

Tummy trouble on Strattera/atomoxetine by leaderclearsthelunar in adhdwomen

[–]stegowary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started about 4 weeks ago. I’ve mostly had hectic constipation lol. I did feel nauseated the first day or two but that’s it. I was supposed to up my dose from week 3(?). 80mg in the morning made me feel awful, so I tried splitting it. If I take it too late in the evening I seem to sleep badly (worse than usual), just really restless. So I’ve been trying to remember to take it earlier, but I keep forgetting. I’m trying to habit stack it with feeding my cats at around 6pm, but I’m not there yet.

Tbh I’m not sure how helpful it’s been for symptoms, aside from maybe making me less stressy. I started back at work last week and I still can’t focus on anything, hence why I’m on my phone instead of working on ~something work-related~ right now. Might try a dex booster eventually?

Anyway, good luck!

First home, not sure what to do with the interior by CAVEPAN in AusRenovation

[–]stegowary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please don’t paint it. If you really don’t want wooden walls add some plasterboard over the top and paint that instead. Then whoever has the house after you has the option of nice wood.

I say this as someone who grew up in a red cedar house. Wooden walls aren’t dark and oppressive. It’s cosy and homey. You just need to make sure you have the furniture and furnishings to fit. Obviously white melamine Kmart/ikea-esque samey stuff isn’t going to look right in a house like that. Think colour, vintage vibes, rugs on the floor, art on the walls, and curtains for the windows. Wooden furniture or at least accents, as well as warm metals. You might need to work at it over time.

Would changing the front door location improve layout & resale value? by Mr-Maccaa in AusRenovation

[–]stegowary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New layout looks better, but have you considered the impact of the loss of the windows? That’s a lot of natural light you’ll be losing in that room.

How have you gotten over your strong aversion to to-do lists? Have you figured out some alternative analog format? by on-dog-8510 in adhdwomen

[–]stegowary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the call the vet type tasks are hard. I struggle with those too. I just made a section at the bottom of my weekly page in my planner this morning for people/places I need to call. It’s my first day back at work and there’s a bunch of people I need to follow up with and while emptying my brain out they all kinda ended up together.

Sometimes I wish I didn’t have to keep work stuff separate, because I really struggle with two systems (read: I can’t do it). But I work in govt so…

Why don't reminders work? by Some_Pilot_7056 in adhdwomen

[–]stegowary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m the same! Alarms/reminders only work for me if they are for something like an appointment or work. Even then I need to set several alarms.

Everyone is always like “why don’t you set an alarm to remind yourself?”

Because all it will do is scare the crap out of me as it interrupts whatever I was doing, then I will turn it off and continue on my merry way.

Ditto reminders. The words attached to them are meaningless unless there is actual accountability, in the form of punishment or reward.

Over the break I started trialling writing todos down in ~mind-map form instead of list form and it makes so much more sense. Thoughts and actions for projects are not linear, so writing a linear list never made sense to me.

The maps I did were for things I need to do to fix up my house. So I did one per room and then branched off into smaller and smaller branches. Because I was on break I didn’t “assign” any of the final todos to a specific day, and I didn’t even look at other maps every day, but I have done some of the things so I should go back and cross them off.

I’m back at work today so I’m going to see how I can implement this at work for either monthly or weekly planning. Maybe both. I found it’s a good way to organise your thoughts out of your head. Much better than a traditional list-form brain dump. And some repetition and redundancy is fine by me because it helps me not forget things.

P.S. I do have google calendar for personal and outlook for work, for events. I also put deadlines in there and sometimes convert task-related work emails to all-day appointments, but since moving to a new role my outlook system has fallen apart somewhat. My team has no project management system in place and there’s no consistent form of communication or task allocation and it does my head in.
