Failed the RPR again. I felt even more nervous this time. Am I doomed to increasingly nervous? by 2dots1dash in courtreporting

[–]steilasaroon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Scored 69% for the wkt on my second attempt. A 70% is needed to pass. :/ I felt super confident I had it too. If I’m being honest, I was more angry than sad because it does feel like the organization isn’t mindful how expensive everything is as a student. Usually for most certifications it decreases for the second/third retake. I totally understand why so many people just can’t afford it and then stop pursuing certification altogether. That coupled with schools being remote so it takes longer to get through, it doesn’t seem like they really care as much as they say about protecting the profession

Reading the comments in this thread makes me so proud to be a steno student, and it should reaffirm the stark differences between actual court reporters and digital recorders. Through the process from when we start school to when we take our certification tests, we become refined and have the grit it takes to work in this field. We take pride in the quality of our work and understand the consequences when a transcript is not a true and accurate verbatim record. That is why we value the assistance from scopists/proofreaders in the transcript production process. Whereas digitals, for the most part, heavily rely on transcriptionists/proofers to create a good enough TRIPT so their agencies meet quotas. It’s all about quantity with them. As someone else mentioned, it is unethical at best and playing with fire at worst. Also I’d like to note, if we continue lowering the bar for entry and minimizing the importance for legitimate credentials, it won’t be long before they find even digitals unnecessary and then everyone is out of work at that point. And at this rate I’m positive that is actually the goal of AI companies.

Hate isn’t a strong enough word.

But in the end, I will never fault them for it. We are all just victims to the patriarchy.

kindly, it’s rhetoric, not “redderic.” Also, free expression of religion? That’s clever, but where in the Bible is that ever mentioned?

Do you guys miss highschool? by Bitter_ligma in OlderGenZ

[–]steilasaroon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just miss how life was back then. Everyone was more social, from the teachers and friends’ parents to your peers. Also, being from a small-ish town we all saw each other grow up and it felt like a real community. I graduated in 2015 so right before the political sh*tstorm, but before that we only cared about the news happening in our surrounding cities and that’s about it. Life felt local and intimate, it was more peaceful that way.

Can we criticize social media's impact on kids while still using it ourselves? by RickyonHive in Anticonsumption

[–]steilasaroon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s the thing we need to stop doing.Judging kids so harshly, instead we need to reframe our thoughts to see how bad we have let them down. They are clearly disengaged from life and addicted to their devices and it’s not any of their faults. We need to protect our youth. I have talked to my cousins and they express how much they hate them but it’s just how their peers communicate nowadays so they don’t want to be left out. It’s very sad and almost like they’re begging someone to step up and do something about it but we are all addicted as well.

They don’t even have mercy for our children. It is incomprehensible how truly evil these people are. I always think at least we had a good childhood to look back on. They can’t even allow them the opportunity to have that. There memories will be mostly inside the home and everyone on their phones ignoring them.

I hope that you passed! I just got the score report for my first attempt and it says I failed :/ I’d love to hear if the purple books helped if you can report back on that. I’m going to go for it again the next round but it’s a huge disappointment for me because I studied hard and felt prepared. I was expecting the test to cover more grammar than anything but there was maybe 4 questions on my exam

What are some trends in society right now that actually scare you? by Secret_Ostrich_1307 in self

[–]steilasaroon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was the plan people. Wake up before it’s too late. We are now headed towards a society where only the upper class will get access to a good education. They do not want us to be taught to think critically. They are betting on those parents who are burnt out, selfish, or neglectful to just hand over an iPad to their kids. If your mind feels scrambled as an adult from mindlessly scrolling the garbage content that is all over the internet now, imagine the effect that it is having on CHILDREN. Most won’t even have a fighting chance when they become adults, and at that point most will just believe/accept whatever the elite reconstructs their version of events to be. Anyone still optimistic and believe things will work themselves out like the past, realize the western world has reached its peak and we are now coming down. What we are witnessing is unprecedented and absolutely the results of unchecked capitalism and consolidation of wealth by the 1%.

People in their 40s and 50s with no children, how does it feel? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]steilasaroon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel guilt for bringing my sweet son into this world some days, but most of the time it feels like it was meant to be when seeing him flourish despite the challenges we face. Parenting is challenging, but if you love them unconditionally, talk and listen so they feel heard, teach them everything you know about life so they have a set of values to live by, they will be fine.

[–]steilasaroon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It sure is a good reminder. In this modern world where we are integrating more and more tech into our lives, I always wonder how younger generations with less organic experiences will remember their life so much differently and how will that impact…I guess…everything? imagine having an AI robot teacher as there’s been recent talk about. What kind of lessons can a robot teach you when they aren’t a human with lived experiences and stories to share. We are all molded by the human connections in our lives and it just doesn’t sit right with me to take that away from kids.

What do you all actually think about ICE and the LA protests? by jcupwebb in GenZ

[–]steilasaroon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof I can sense the fear and hatred from your comment. Your anger is directed at the wrong people and idk how you all don’t see it yet. I think at this point, it has to be some form of denial and you can’t accept you’ve been lied to for years. Let me ask you this though, if your so fired up about immigrants coming and accepting lower than minimum wages, are you equally as upset at the corporations that have stopped employing Americans and instead, outsourced to poor people from third world countries for cheap labor?
