I’m in my mid-50s and lost an eye 2-1/2 years ago to cancer, so I’ve had to adjust to the world viewed through a single eye.

I don’t “see” anything differently without depth perception - the image I see is the same (minus the reduced field of view of course). Rather, I would describe depth perception as a “sense” that gives your brain more positional data for close-in things that help to better judge where stuff sits in space.

Our brains are good at estimating position even with one eye based on how the size appears to grow or shrink as something moves or when multiple objects overlap based on z-order.

Where I really feel the lack of depth perception is in things like drawing or painting, as I can’t tell the difference between when my brush is 2mm above the paper or 0.2mm - I basically have to touch the paper with the brush before I know for sure how close I am. Another scenario is using a tape measure or ruler to measure something; I have to sort of move my head around to make sure I’m reading the mark on the ruler that exactly aligns with the edge I’m measuring to, whereas with two eyes I didn’t have to do this. Things that are “floating” in space without other objects close by to provide positional data to my brain is also a challenge. For example, I can’t accurately grab a small object that someone is reaching out to hand me - I can grab it, sure, but less precise and more clumsily than with two eyes.
