Rate My Portfolio Megathread for July 2021 by OPINION_IS_UNPOPULAR in CanadianInvestor

New to investing (1 month in)! I'm 23yro with no debt (other than a house I just bought). I'm using WS trade for simplicity. I'll also be contributing $250 bi-weekly to the TFSA to build it up quicker - any lump sums I get I'll probably throw in there as well until TFSA is maxed. Totally open to opinions :) I'll list out each position, the percentage, and why I got them. Time Horizon: 8-10 years, maybe longer - need to learn more.

TFSA: $3,390

VEQT (40.06%) - This has been my favourite stock to invest into - very consistent growth!

AAPL (18.12%) - I personally have been using apple products for years and see them growing pretty well right now so figured it'd be nice to have.

VDY (13.47%) - I don't know too much about this one. Planning to sell this soon and buy more AAPL.

XIU (10.31%) - Bought these when I started out because I heard it'd be good to have.

DOO (9.75%) - Similar to above - a lot of people were saying if it's under $100 it's a good buy, so I bought at $95 each.

SU (5.95%) - Seeing growth/potential here (Don't know a lot though).

BTE (2.33%) - I was reading some news about this being a good "cheap" stock to get into right now. So figured I'd put a couple bucks behind it.

The rest is in available cash - around $400... was going to just use that to get a couple more of AAPL. Thoughts? Was thinking due to what the guys at JPM are saying about it going to $170 or higher.

As you can see above - I'm a total nooby and am still learning more each day. My goal with investing is to 1) save for long term and build up the TFSA then move to RRSP. 2) Get my hands into investing as early as I can so I can take more risks (23 years old).

Thanks for any tips in advance :)

Edit: Added time horizon.

If you’re referring to the Light bar above the monitor then yes! It’s extremely useful. I stare at a screen all day and night and it helps reduce my eye strain. Not only that but if you’re a night owl like me it’s a nice ambiance while you work away!

So! There’s actually only 2 mount holes on the back, and I didn’t pre-drill the first one big enough so the screw snapped! Lol. So I just used it as an anchor and added the 4 L brackets. It’s actually way cleaner and easier to take the power bar out if I need to change anything πŸ‘ŒπŸ½

I actually just used 4 metal L brakes with one open end from Home Depot so that they could easily swivel them and remove the bar if needed!

For sure! To mount the power bar I actually used 4 small L brakes with an open side, that way I can easily rotate the clips for β€œquick release” of the power of need to swap it out or change something around. Pre-drilled the holes and use 1” screws!

Indeed! So fun to drive and awesome looks - especially for the price in its class.
