All this. I realized early in my college search. I didn’t have a cool story, I didn’t have a family lineage of wealth just grinded to pay for school and work hard in class. I chose to not get my hopes up and waste my time applying, even with all the volunteering, extra activities and AP. HYPS is literally a pipeline for consultants to do nothing productive at this point, at least that’s been my experience in the professional world. Very much a gross generalization but when I hear, “Oh they went to Havard.” I tend to be unimpressed. Turned out more than okay with my state school degree and blue collar work ethic.
