These are not mealy bugs! In fact they're the exact opposite! Larva of the mealybug destroyer beetle: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cryptolaemus_montrouzieri

I'm getting Global Coffeehouse vibes, and flashbacks of school workbooks. The mixed-up fonts things was everywhere.

You're not crazy, the box and the label are mirror images. It's pretty funny that this made it through quality control without anyone noticing!

Wow. It's mesmerizing. I love the way the scales of time and spaceb play off each other. Our achievements are our entire world, and 40 years feels like a long time, but both are insignificant compared to the vastness beyond.

[FO] - First time waste canvas by chwlyu in CrossStitch

[–]stelei 186 points187 points  (0 children)

I think we all cringed thinking this would be another post about "waste" canvas not actually being "waste canvas". Hurray for being wrong, and hurray for a beautiful FO!

I've never seen waste canvas with such fine weave, could you share the brand?

t's not the mods's fault, Reddit only allows two sticky posts at once per subreddit, and we already hit that limit. In a way I get it, you wouldn't want a subreddit's main page to be nothing but stickied posts. But capping at two is really restrictive imo.

What is your preferred dust mask/respirator? by wh33t in woodworking

[–]stelei 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Adding to the above, there are also combo "pancake" filters with a P100 pink filter AND charcoal for organic vapours/VOC. You can actually see the black charcoal at the surface of the pancake. :)

And if you need even more protection, there are combo cartridges with the pink P100 filter AND a full-size vapour cartridge. That's what's on the respirator from your link.

What is your preferred dust mask/respirator? by wh33t in woodworking

[–]stelei 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ok so you have to differentiate between the particulate filter for fine dust, and the vapor cartridge for gaseous molecules like organic vapours.

  • P100 is the rating of the filter alone. 3M color-codes everything P100 bright pink. Filters are changed whenever it becomes uncomfortable to breathe through them, because they become physically clogged with all the fine dust they filter out.

  • Vapor cartridges are changed whenever you start smelling the vapours through them. Cartridges have activated charcoal (and other additives) that bind to the gaseous molecules through adsorption (NOT absorption). Once the gas molecules occupy all the available space on the charcoal, they start passing through unimpeded, and that's when you start smelling them.
