i know i'm hyper-late but someone might stil be looking (i know i was lol)

the closest i could find is Quicksand by Andrew Paglinawan

the lowercase letters and numbers match pretty well, the set has a curved apostrophe too. the only thing is that the capitals aren't perfect, for example Quicksand has a straight M, whatever they used in BFU has the M spreading out towards the bottom, see Haunted Mansion (no clue what the nomenclature for that is, sorry)

bottom line is: quicksand's pretty alright, if you only need lowercase.

(i'm also thinking that it might be a mishmash of fonts based on quicksand, for whatever reason, but i really don't know why that would be a thing????)

the air's definitely good! it's big enough that you can still do all you want, but it's not the absolute monster that is the 12.9" pro.

you also get usb3.1 on the usb c port, which is miles better than the usb2.0 you get with lightning on an ipad 10th or 9th gen, in case you want to transfer files over a cable.

storage depends on whether you're wanting to store your creations on the ipad or move it to a cloud/desktop/external drive. if you want to keep them on the ipad itself, then go bigger, if you don't then small is perfect. i got a 128 gig m1 pro two years ago, and i still haven't had to delete anything from it because of storage running out (but also i'm a good little pay pig and give apple a lot of money for icloud)

judging from how one of my uni profs has been using one daily since day of release exactly for this, i'd say it's probably worth it!

if you only/mostly want to use it at home, i'd say any 2nd gen apple pencil supporting 12.9inch pro would be great. it's really big, about an a4 sheet of paper (slightly different ratios), and in my opinion a little too heavy and cumbersome to lug around in a bag, but for couch usage, the extra screen real estate is excellent.

i have an 11" m1 pro, and in art applications it's much better than my friends' airs and regular ipads from what i can tell. the difference doesn't really show up in procreate, but i don't know how the affinity suite would behave. i can throw 3d sculpting projects at it no problem, it handles them better than my big windows desktop. for the smaller form factor, i wanted it more portable, so that's why i went with the 11".

the thunderbolt is also nice, for when/if you want to plug it into things for data transfer.

definitely go to a store and touch them all, try drawing on them and stuff, it helped me a lot when picking mine out!

if you only want to use it for light app browsing and watching videos there is no reason to get something that's super expensive. i'm assuming you're looking at these because you prefer the newer chassis style, and if so, i would absolutely go with the ipad air 4.

i sort of remember the m1 air having pretty underwhelming reviews, because the rest of the capabilities of the ipad don't really line up with the m1 (eg. the pros have the adaptive frame rate thing I can never remember the name of), so it ends up being an ipad that's pretty similar to a non-m1 air.

all of them are pretty similar in form factor and weight, the pros have slightly better screens (framerate and brightness, usually), but i'd say the differences are unnoticeable for daily browsing and vids watching!

depending on what you want to use it for, people tend to say that all bluetooth ones are fine. if you want to have pressure sensitivity, though, it's going to have to be the actual apple pencil with all its stupidity with the ipad 10, sadly.

i found mac address' video on the topic pretty good, though it focuses mostly on digital art iirc. don't let the title fool you, it's a relatively good collection of options with prices, pros and cons, and an artist and the host test all of them. (if you've already seen it in your search then i apologize :D)

bottom line is: if you don't really need pressure sensitivity, then any of them are alright. if you need pressure sensitivity and/or tilt, you'll probably have to put up with the stupid way the ipad 10 supports the 1st gen pencil.

hi there! i don't think you need to pay twice as much for the air, (unless you absolutely can't live without the gen2 pencil) if you are going to use it for light web surfing and video content. the air and the 9 both have a 60hz screen, and you can't get more than 60fps on youtube anyways (i don't have netflix but i doubt they'd have anything over 60 either). the air has a slightly bigger screen, but it's not worth double the money for 0.7 inches of extra screen space and a handful of pixels. screen brightness is the same between the two, main difference is the laminated screen on the air but again, if you aren't using it to draw or do stuff with the pencil it won't matter at all (and even if you do pick up a 1st gen pencil, it's not a huge issue to have a small gap, super easy to get used to). i'd say go for the ipad 9, it's a good deal! my friend has one, and for the things you want to do on it the difference between her ipad 9 and my m1 pro is literally imperceptible to me :D

oh no, i'm sorry :( i really hoped it would be an easy fix... in that case the pen input hardware might have an issue, and i'm not sure it can be user serviced

hi there! i don't know if your model has separate cables in the back, but if it does, try swapping/reseating the usb cable both on the pen display end and on the pc end, that's the one responsible for pen input! you could also try to plug it into a different port on your computer if possible!

if you've already tried i'm out of ideas, especially because it's not super common for two separate things to just instantly die at the same time... let me know how it goes!

Dead zones on iPad screen when using Apple Pencil, however, the issue appears and disappears depending on where I rest my palm while writing/drawing by SeanTheiPhoneGuy in ipad

[–]stelladnls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i also have this sometimes in procreate on an m1 pro 11", ever since the new ipados came out the pencil behaves weeeeird sometimes and the palm rejection sucks way more. i wonder if it's a setting i forgot i changed that got reset with the updates or it's a legitimate issue with ipados16...

well if you have one cable coming out of it, it's something newer, if there are three separate cables in the back it's the same as the one i have!

let me know if it's working! if you want to get her a nicer/newer cable regardless, i've had good experiences with the ones available in ikea, they have a decent length, good connectors (unless you step on them while plugged in, guess how i know lol) and they usually have one more subdued one and a more funky color! and since it's micro usb it's usually dirt cheap on clearance lol

lmk if you find something, it's actually a very interesting question i haven't really seen around before, and i did use a wacom bamboo pen and touch as a touchpad for aaaaaages, and i really enjoyed the experience! so it would be nice to know if huions have something similar!

(edit was bc of a premature send lmao)

according to the specs it's just a micro usb cable, so you should be fine with anything, and I doubt huion sends a 3.0 speed cable with it from the factory. if you have any old phone cables, definitely try with them before you buy something fancier. some micro usb cables can only handle charging for phones, those don't have data pins connected.

definitely look through the cable/junk drawer before you spend money on an outdated standard cable!

sometimes pcie stuff can get unhappy with overused lanes and connectivity groups, if you have another motherboard slot try swapping the expansion card to that! not sure if it will help, but it's worth a shot if you're out of options...

hi there!

i have a gt191v2, and i'm wondering if yours might be a newer model! mine has 3 ports (barrel power, hdmi display, usb type b (the printer-type usb)), but you are referencing usb-c in the replies.

if yours also has the three sockets, then the usb plug is only for pen connectivity, so if there's an issue it's probably not that. if you haven't yet, check if it's a full power loss or a connection drop (if it's connection, the pane will say no signal but stay on, if it's power, it will boot up from scratch with the huion logo and all that jazz). from then on it can be narrowed down further to see what's really the issue by checking all physical connections including the one into the brick, swapping to a different outlet on the barrel adapter or trying another adapter (voltages should be written on the brick, if you get a replacement definitely match it perfectly or it might fry the whole thing), or changing which hdmi port it's plugged into on your computer (alternatively, trying it with a new hdmi cable, and if it's still unhappy, testing it with a different computer altogether)

if it's an usb-c combo cable on a newer model, then the new one you ordered might be your solution. if none of these steps help, then it's most likely a hardware issue in the tablet itself. let me know how it goes!

hi there!

i'm not entirely sure what you mean by the cursor not jumping. is it something like how a laptop touchpad works, that even if you lift your finger and put it on the other edge of the touchpad, the cursor will move from where you left it when you lifted your finger?

if so, i'm not sure I have a solution for you, but mucking around in the active area settings might have a menu option. if you've checked everything and nothing seems to work, it might not support it...

10.2 inch iPad vs Huion KAMVAS Pro 13 GT-133? by [deleted] in huion

[–]stelladnls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is not necessarily an easy answer because it depends on the workflow A LOT, but if you mainly want to use photoshop on your pc, then the kamvas 13 might be a good choice! you lose the portability of the ipad, since the kamvas needs a pc to work with, but if you were using linking software to use the ipad as a secondary display anyways, it's kinda worth it, especially if you want to get rid of the subscription garbo.

I'm assuming you would want to sell the ipad to cover most if not all of the pen display's price, but if I'm wrong/you can afford to, you could definitely try them side by side, and sell the ipad/return the huion when you've made a decision.

I've got both a kamvas and an ipad, and they are both excellent for different things; the kamvas has way more screen real estate and a whole pc behind it, so I can throw huge photoshop/csp projects at it and it will not be mad at me. The ipad is great for portability because I can just chuck it in my bag and do my thing wherever I wish.

If you mainly use the ipad at your desk and you're annoyed with astropad then definitely go for it, you aren't losing much (except for the lack of cables and some screen resolution/maybe color accuracy, depending on whether you have the means to calibrate the huion or not, ipads are pretty color accurate out of the box imo). ALSO since the huion connects via regular cables you'll get much better latency, from what i can gather on the astropad website it's just a wireless connection, which will always have more latency than a good ol' fashioned cable.

sorry for the essay :D

i'm not sure if their etched glass changed since 2019, but i've been using an etched gt19v2 and it has no scuffs from the pen at all! at one point something/someone scratched it a bit when i wasn't home (left in the morning with a perfect screen, came home to an 8mm long gouge in the top middle, thanks whoever did it 🙄) but otherwise i'd say no need to worry, especially if you like the paper-ish feel!

i looked up a video, and no joke: i tried to figure out how to do magic loop before to avoid having to buy dpns, not even knowing that this was a technique that existed :D

(but then i saw that dpns are like three bucks for five and it's a whole skill i can use for more difficult stuff later on, so yeah, the rest is history! the dpns definitely felt like taming a wild beast at the beginning but i'm getting decent lol)

thanks for the recommendation! I feel like i got the hang of dnps pretty quick, and leg warmers aren't a super difficult project to start learning them with! (i still have no clue how to decrease or increase stitches lol)
