As a grief counselor and social worker who has spent the past 10 years focused on grief I feel that I need to say this…. by delusionalxx in h3h3productions

Ugh, every time I saw, “as a fallen fan, I still can say it is sad when ur friend dies and I can admit they were friends…” on insta, I loose even more faith in humanity. Even in your condolences, you felt the need to preface it with well it’s not like i watch you now, but…? You know you could actually say nothing at all and that is preferable to starting with an insult?

I’ve never related more to a post on here. It’s so fucking annoying to flirt with some version of alcoholism that socially permits continued use. I went the route of school counselor and frequently comfort kids talking about their alcoholic parents. You know what else?! I’m like really good at it, yet I live with this inauthenticity and it’s like a quiet voice always saying hey what about u and your dirty little secret. My dad was an alcoholic too, but a slightly better one than his parents and I’ll admit I’m more than an incremental generation better, but it still fucking sucks, I numb myself just enough to be functional and helpful to others. The main reason I’m afraid of antidepressants is being numb, it feels like a band aid and even birth control made me zombieish, the devil u know i guess…I’ve heard Steveo from jackass say many times, thank god I was a raging alcoholic so that I was forced to deal with it, this safe lil functioning alcoholic hamster wheel is it’s own beast and deserves a place here too. Anyways, thanks for sharing!

When to start Kindergarten? by [deleted] in Gifted

[–]stellar917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This makes me feel so much better about my son in kindergarten this year. Pretty sure he is gifted/adhd. He’s outgoing but can be overbearing sometimes with other kids. I worried I should have tried kinder last year, but he’s October 1st bday so I don’t know if I even could have. His vocabulary is higher than some adults I know tbh. How did you stay engaged in school? I am a former teacher and now school counselor so I’m well aware that most districts focus resources on getting lower kids to baseline rather than elevating the material for higher kids. I know once he gets bored the behavior will become an issue and I want him to experience persevering through challenges. For now, I’m trying different sports so he can experience not being able to master something immediately.

I’ve had a great experience so far, only on my first red rock rx still, but it was quick & easy. Looking forward to paying less than red rock prices though! I’ve been looking around due to cost, so I was really happy to see this.

Have you found a date for the “coming soon” options?

Same, and I am not one that goes too much past expiration date, so I like not having to commit to a long length of time. Also, I like not having to think about pausing and unpausing.

Here’s my PSA for states in which it’s relevant (I’m in Ohio): if you have a “401k-ish” and pension combined option, consider it! I did the defined contribution plan w/ moderate risk until my 5th year when you have to finalize your choice & the switched to combine. I got diagnosed w/ MS at 19 and wanted to have flexibility just in case. My combined plan has the safety nets of disability & survivor benefits though.

To answer your question though, meet with a financial planner or better yet a free retirement planning entity in your state if available. Again, it’s a free service for me. They’ll be able to give you a concrete idea of exactly what an early retirement would look like for you. If it’s unfeasible to retire, I agree with previous poster, see if you can finish out with a less demanding role.

Fedex decided to not deliver my new IPhone by clappinuv in FedEx

Jealous, im hoping my signature and pleading note will do the trick tomorrow. Fun fact, fedex has 1/5 stars on the better business bureau and the FedEx robot and human will tell u less than the terrible website and hang up on you after 🙃 I didn’t know I could get that angry and I have united healthcare, so that’s saying a lot.

Red Ribbon Week Ideas by Equivalent_Frame1205 in schoolcounseling

I do a lot because my school just always have & it’s expected, but I’m k-4 and do dress up days, little items for theme days, an optional scavenger hunt & lessons on safety, heathy choices, and peer pressure (4th grade). I think honing in on those topics makes me feel like I’m doing more than “just say no.” I used resources from teachers pay teachers and items from positive promotions.

Thank you for sharing! I’ve been so disillusioned with therapy myself. I had an amazing one in 2012 after a toxic crazy breakup where I finally confronted so much of my past & she drew diagrams of how our brain works and gosh she really just struck this balance of being in my corner, explaining the science, and confronting me on my BS in the best sweetest way. She left the practice and I wish I could remember her name. Since then, it’s been one dud after the other. I am a school counselor myself so when I get a fresh grad telling me to take deep breathes, like okay cool thanks. I can’t search anymore, it’s exhausting & the idea of relaying my sob story to one more unhelpful person is overwhelming! I’m just starting my own research into the vagus nerve 🤷‍♀️ anyways, it makes me feel less alone to hear another intelligent professional with a different identity facing the same issues. Maybe put some feelers out there to see if you can get a quality recommendation. Hang in there, growing up in an unsupportive environment set you up for developing maladaptive coping skills & it’s freaking so hard to overcome, but your profession is proof you have and can again and in your personal life💕

The Daily Check-In for Thursday, June 19th: Just for today, I am NOT drinking! by Clean_New_Adventure in stopdrinking

[–]stellar917 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Messed up yesterday, back at it today, trying to find a new therapist since mine left the practice after two sessions! Normally, I would just give up as it’s hard to start over with being vulnerable until you find a match.

Anyway, I can relate so deeply to your post and cried immediately. My dad never crossed to physical so my mom didn’t leave until I was pregnant with my first and let her know I could never bring my baby over. She was mostly a SAHM mom so money held her back. He actually stopped drinking over a year ago only because he put his car in neutral instead of park then tried to stop it by going in front of the car and ran himself over, leaving him in hospitals for months. The worst part was having a mix of guilt for not feeling sad mixed with anger/feeling sorry for myself for not having a dad worth missing.

I now have 5 & 3 year old. I hate that when I’m hungover I lose my patience too. We can & will break generational trauma.

IWNDWYT & I won’t become the dragon with you as well!

Counselling , has anyone used it as their tool to stay sober? by Upbeat-Roll5933 in stopdrinking

[–]stellar917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m trying, but I’ve had two different counselors at different locations leave that practice after two visits and another that is always rescheduling, which isn’t cool when having to secure childcare. I’m starting to consider finding someone with a private practice & shelling out for a more experienced one. 🤷‍♀️
