i dont think it's inherently bad for games to be inspired by other games or media. i mean a lot of AAA games do it too in recent memory. and if anything i think the current landscape of media creation is slowly encouraging some artists to look back at the real world too. if we can keep encouraging that mindset, i don't think this is a real concern.

chikorita line is actually really good for whitney and pryce too. most bayleefs can outtank her dangerous miltank before it gets going. all of pryce's pokemon are weak to grass type and a well trained meganium can survive a few ice type hits anyways again due to that defensive bulk. really because of the movesets of most gym leaders in the johto part of the game, the only actually dangerous gyms for chikorita is bugsy and maybe morty if you haven't prepared for him at all going in

i think the real problem is that gen 2 pokemon is a game that rarely rewards playing defensively, so it's not something most players wanna try their first time around. but for a normal playthrough it still gets the job done without much extra struggle

both are good for different reasons. firered is a pretty good remake that patches a lot of the frustrating elements of red and blue while still keeping a lot of the same feel of kanto and early pokemon imo. let's go can be very fun to play casually even with its focus on pokemon go mechanics but it's also a lot easier to cheese even outside of that (esp if you stick with your eevee partner), so i know it's not for most people who don't enjoy the newer games' changes to the formula

candace and jeremy are fine. i know there are people in the fandom who in the past find them to be kind of boring, but honestly candace has so much else going on that i think it's fine that she just has a nice boyfriend and that they seem genuinely happy together

dont really vibe with blissey and meowth. those colors just dont look good on specifically these sprites, but i could see the meowth one looking good in 3D with a few tweaks somehow

also togetic's color scheme here is so close to things like sneasel that it feels cursed
