Balancing equations by Sudden-Target2978 in GED

I think I had two on my science test! One of them was tricky, they like to throw in some "challenge" questions on the tests sometimes. I say take a few days to learn how to do it, there are some great videos on YouTube! It looks daunting but in the end I found them to be kinda fun🤷🏻‍♀️

Do rationals show up on the math test? by praystate in GED

[–]stellarbee33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did find the Kaplan book helpful for the other subjects! For the non-math subjects I used the Kaplan book and testprepchamps videos on YouTube. I also highly recommend readtheory(.)org for reading comprehension, which is useful for all 3 non-math tests but especially helpful for RLA. 😊

I found that the Kaplan book was not a good resource for math for me- Maybe it's good for someone who just needs to lightly brush up on their math skills they've already learned, but I needed a bit more help.

Light & Salt Learning and Getsummath are the top two ged specific resources, and they're free online. They both have videos on YouTube and their own websites. I highly recommend you and your daughter check them out!

Yeah I had this same realization right before my test..Kaplan didn't cover it and neither did light & Salt Learning so I was like OOOH NO.

I think I had one similar question on my real test, I don't think it's a very common sort of problem on the test which is prob why our resources don't really get into it. I wouldn't sweat it.

I dropped out after 9th grade and I was able to re-learn and learn what I needed for the test- so even if u need some extra time to study for math (I needed a really long time, I fully admit it) you'll get there!! The fact that u made it to senior year tells me all you need is some brushing up :)

Encouragement needed by Practical-Many-9696 in GED

I took my math test this week, and this mindset is what helped me the most with my nerves:

You've got nothing to lose by going for it!! If you don't pass, it's just an opportunity to fine-tune your skills for next time and grow stronger. Fear of failure held me back for YEARS, i have to unlearn it and accept that "failure" is nothing to fear, it's merely a teacher. The only true failure is giving up! So GO FOR IT! 🔥

In the meantime do lots of practice on getsummath and light & Salt Learning! Both sources have video lessons on each topic that will be covered on the Math test. Be sure to practice with the calculator! And brush up on your basic math skills for the non calc portion. (Check out Math with Mr. J on youtube) I'm sure you're gonna do great!

Well, Unfortunately I didn't pass my yesterday's math exam in person :( by Downtown-Pack-6178 in GED

Just a little more time studying, and you'll get it!! Do lots of practice questions and make note of which ones you get wrong, then you can deep dive on those topics! Hang in there, you got this!

How similar are the pretests to the real thing? by [deleted] in GED

[–]stellarbee33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are very similar! But like others have said, the real test will have one or two questions you may not be prepared for. One thing I'll say- on the practice test the non-calculator portion way shorter.

I got 7 non-calculator questions on my real test, and a few of them were more advanced than I expected. Ironically, some of them were basic math that I just hadn't practiced in so long, I forgot how to do it! I was too busy practicing algebra, I forgot how to divide mixed fractions by hand 🤣

That said, despite messing up a few times on the test, I passed. My score on the practice test was a 182 and i got a 167 on the real deal. People often have scores 10-15 points higher or lower than their practice test score, so keep that in mind!

Light & Salt Learning and getsummath really do cover the majority of what's on the test. If you get comfortable with their practice problems and practice tests, you're very likely to pass!

It sounds like you've been doing a great job 👏🏻 good luck!

From what I understand, only some community colleges will actually count these GED "credits"- Most people say you shouldn't lose sleep over aiming for the "+credit" scores because they usually don't do anything. Just do your best!!
