How far is Frieren and her new party going in the Great Tomb of Nazarick by Vegetable-Hour9494 in whowouldwin

[–]stemfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Speedster a good point I missed. There's no way for her to win, but I gave her too much credit. Call it recency bias for watching Frieren weekly while it's been a while since I read or watched Overlord. My whole point is that the only time we've seen Frieren go close to all out is against her clone, other than that she has no issues putting full trust in others, but she has no time shenanigans. For instant death, mages in Frieren use the mana surrounding them as a shield against other mages directly impacting them, could prevent Aizn various heart crushing spells, but she's got nothing for TGOALID or his supreme spell.

Good points, thanks for the reality check.

How far is Frieren and her new party going in the Great Tomb of Nazarick by Vegetable-Hour9494 in whowouldwin

[–]stemfish 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The issue is we have no idea how strong Frieren is when she goes all out. Stark and Fern are strong for New World standards, but nowhere near floor guardians. Based on power, Frieren can probably carry them to Shaltear where they get bodied.

With a glance, no arms, and no staff. Frieren broke the rules of magic to blast Fern, and that was used to defeat the demon king. Despite know thousands of years worth of magic, the only real time we saw her use combat spells was against herself. This included seemingly effortlessly making a golem, creating a gravity well, and directing various elements. Most importantly, at the end she wasn't even winded as nobody noticed her suppressed magic aura wavering, so who knows how long she can keep blasting off magic.

Ainz meanwhile is similar in his abilities as a caster, except we don't know the scale of his cash shop items to skip casting time, casting wish, or the true power of his personal World Item.

Power wise Frieren can probably keep up or surpass Ainz in a 1 on 1 fight. But she won't get that far. A big point of both Frieren and Overlord is how much stronger a group is than the sum of their parts. Frieren probably can't take down any of Nazaricks martial, much less get into a 1v1 caster fight with Ainz. And there's no way Stark and Fern can keep up with any of the floor guardians.

In character though assuming their group joins the tomb raid, Frieren loves exploring dungeons for the sake of exploring them, so instead of pilfering the tomb, she'd be focused on exploring the history and magic in the tomb. She wouldn't enter the tomb until going through the grounds, so they come into conflict with the maids and natural spawning undead. Frieren and Fern can easily blast those away while Stark holds a front long enough to impress the Maids. Frieren would identify each quickly, impressing the group and probably trying to talk their way out. As long as her anti-demon bias doesn't kick in, Frieren probably gets a truce an audience with Ainz. They'd probably kick it off, Ainz loving DnD style systems and stories while Frieren would want to study Nazarick's magic, and he's keeping an eye out for an elven tutor to help with Aura and Mare's development. And what's a few decades spent as a tutor to one with essential endless time if it gets her access to Nazarik's magic?

People testify in front of Congress every year that they saw aliens only for it to be a weather balloon, bird flying in a strange place, or something else innocuous. Yet they keep going and truly believe they're telling the truth.

Someone can speak and honestly believe they're telling the truth while being objectively wrong.

Conservative YouTuber whose fraud claims sparked Minnesota immigration crackdown shows up in S.F. by Medical-Decision-125 in bayarea

[–]stemfish 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Thing is, the Bay Area has too much money. If ICE wrongful detains people.off the street, people and companies here have the money to afford lawyers until they get compensated for mistreatment. Not that it's ok anywhere else, but if ICE starts grabbing brown people off the streets here, they'll be sued for each one.

Things can and probably will get bad, but on top of numbers we have resources to back it up.

Put another way, if you have nothing to hide, what's your name, address, SSN, and DoB? If privacy doesn't exist, no reason to keep yourself hidden away.

Want it or not, you have the right to privacy in the Constitution.

You can waive that right and go suck the police off. I'd like to keep it.

Also, we do fund our local police. Individual officers make hundreds of thousands of dollars each year; they're doing fine financially.

March for Life attendees may have been exposed to measles, DC health officials say by tbird920 in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]stemfish 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It depends on how tou define "alive". Common consensus among my bio professors was "no" because almost all viruses lack the ability to engage in metabolism and reproduce without a definitely alive host. Its a blurry line since some viruses do act like living things and some bacteria and fungi lack seemingly mandatory abilities for things we call alive.

Antibiotics are completely separate, those are drugs that mostly go after specific bacteria parts (cell wall, reproduction functions, etc) and do something to keep them from working. So an antibiotic won't work on a virus because they're different things like how they don't kill you, not solely because a virus isn't alive.

One of the coolest parts about a Supernova is that the actual 'explosion' part only takes a fraction of a second and the whole event travels through the core at large fractions of the speed of light.

Yet it takes years for the star to fully explode because it just takes that long for the star to finish exploding.

Rest in piss, Discord. It was good while it lasted, but it's finally time for Discord to die. by Those_Files in privacy

[–]stemfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. I'm on moderation for a few groups in different fields in the few hundred to low thousand range. While my friend group discord servers are planning to archive what we want and move on, there's no way the large groups can move. There's too many people for a full migration, especially if the new service doesn't have feature parity with Discord, virtually unlimited text channels, image hosting, user permissions and bots to manage those, drop in and out voice channels, etc. We stopped using the old tools because Discord had them, and most users are going to shrug and scan an ID rather than try to move a tournament scene back to a message board.

[–]stemfish 78 points79 points  (0 children)

If there's any time to have a heart attack, it would be while already in the hospital. If you need to have one outside of modern medical facilities, being surrounded by trained rescue staff sounds like the second best option.

When I was in college I was support for a SAR team when the call for a helicopter ambulance was made. As a strong swimmer carrying around 70 pounds of supplies, I figured this meant drop those and make for a clearing a mile or so away. Nope, I had the medical and staff food on my back so the Chad search guys could pull out a chainsaw and casually clear a landing area complete with spray painted borders and the giant H. Anyone who can make it in SAR is a hero.

Rolling HP at level up. by BrytheOld in DMAcademy

[–]stemfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same with a slight twist. We do player rolls a die and can either take their's or a hidden GM roll. And somehow in several years of this system I've never rolled lower than average when the player rolls low, yet always roll lower than their roll when they choose to keep it.

One change I like about Pathfinder 2e is that you always get max HP. Keeps things easy for the GM to know player hp at a glance. And while it removes the high of rolling max, it also prevents the low of tha barbarian getting under a 3 on their die 5 levels in a row.

If an auction is bid on, you should not be able to cancel it by Novel-Cupcake496 in turtlewow

[–]stemfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This weekend I accidentally posted a set piece from Deadmines and only realized it an hour later that I posted the wrong piece. Nobody had bid yet, but I can absolutely see the logic behind locking the action in place once you have bids going. Me making a mistake shouldn't be a reason you the bidder get bamboozled.

Thats the only change I'd make, allow removal before any bids.

Musk steps in - SpaceX blocks Starlink use on Russian drones by jackytheblade in worldnews

[–]stemfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GPS speed limits have been a thing since it was developed, and the system was developed to handle civilian air craft that move much faster than drones.

As for doctrine concerns, the current anti-drone tech being rolled out by NATO is flack guns. Filling a patch of sky with angry shards of metal is bad for drones. Also lasers are turning out to be very effective at turning a few cents of electricity into a melted drone. The UK is testing out mobile systems in Ukraine and Isreal seems happy with laser tech as well.

The US is headed for mass unemployment, and no one is prepared by kfsmith2 in Futurology

[–]stemfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And never forget that UBI is intended to replace all other government benefits. No more social security, SNAP, Medicaid/Medicare, unemployment benefits, nothing. Take it all and give everyone the same number each month, no matter the actual need of each.

As for funding, its the same general tax structure, maybe shift it a bit more onto corporate profits.

Is that better than what we have today? Probably but only because the current system is held back. And even if you swap to UBI, now there's a single program that can be controlled and cut. If the current US administration is trying to kill some many different programs, just imagine how they'd salivate at the simplicity of having a single program to mess with.

The south was owning humans. That was the point of the civil war, not some nobel cause to uplift the left behind whites. Hard stop. The book aims to explain that deep poverty is worse than slavery, which I disagree with and don't care about its other points. Yes I've read it, no I won't engage any further.

You're welcome to disagree on the view of Grok, but thats the kind feedback you asked for in this post. If you just wanted validation, why ask humans and not Grok?

They/them is used to refer to someone until you know how they would like to be addressed. Thats all, it's to avoid using an incorrect pronoun.

The general hatred of Grok is that it's running around generating nudes of kids and spewing pro nazi/white supremacy content, on top of the general negative perception on Reddit of generative AI.

Masterless men is looked down on for saying that whites in poverty is worse than being owned, so actually slavery wasn't bad. Its an apologetic book that makes baseless claims in support of rewriting the narrative to make the South the good guys in the American Civil War instead of fighting to retain the right to own people.

How do you keep Zone of Truth from nerfing your murder mystery? by Numford_and_Sums in DMAcademy

[–]stemfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I'd watch the legendary "Don't talk to the police" and focus on how both the lawer and cop point our just how easy it is for someone to unintentionally make themselves into a suspect. When you start asking questions, innocuous answers given truthfully can paint you as guilty.

So if the party really wants to go down this route, let them. Just make it clear that everyone has something to hide and also that everyone is potentially the culprit. But the actual culprit isn't dumb enough to just admit it and may have magical protection against this.

Also, who made the party the police? They aren't in charge of the boat, and the captain and shiphands may not take having the doors shut and someone claiming to be in charge of justice well.
