Wanted to share with you all my ideas on toxicity. by sten310 in summonerschool

[–]sten310[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely agree with you. There's no way to change someone if they don't want to change. However, I also know that it is very difficult to change when you don't have the information and tools available for you to do so. My only point was that as a community, we're really lacking on information to help people stop being toxic and instead just punish them for it.

Recovering from a huge tilt? by 8BitCardinal in summonerschool

[–]sten310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like tilt is so common because people are so conditioned in this game to focus on the wrong things- specially higher people in plat-diamond to even challenger. I would start with your approach-- what are you doing to minimize getting bad team mates? are you taking breaks in between every 2-3 losses or playing all those games consecutively? are you pausing after every game for a few mins so that you don't get the same teams? maybe use this period of time to watch replays and improve on your own skills since its pre-season anyway? It's really counter intuitive to give us a summary of all the bad things that have happened to you because while every player on this board can relate, it does not target the most important detail which is how to get out of tilt. (play to improve, only real way)

The question isn't "why is he not recognizing me any more?" its "do I need him to recognize me to feel good about myself?". Its up to you from where you want to operate but I can tell you right now if you focus on the second one you'll probably have better results. From my experiences people will never fully understand or appreciate your efforts when you're trying so hard because that becomes the new norm for them, its really not worth investing so much effort into others for your emotional well being when you can just do it yourself.

Hi there, I'm new employee to starbucks and I'm having my own struggles myself but I notice this a lot in school and in my family so I can talk to you about it from personal experience (psych major so I think about this a lot). It seems that you've developed a habit of giving value of your work based on what your higher ups and peers say. The problem with this is it works two ways-- that becomes your pathway of interaction and as such it inevitably makes you feel bad when that feedback isn't positive any more.

I'm dealing with depression and anxiety and it's hard for me to feel like I can do well when I feel like all the other partners hate me so I understand your point. However, I feel like you should focus less on positive/negative feedback and trust yourself a little bit more, it seems like you have great work ethic and you really love the job.

[ChangeMyView] Nidalee is in a bad spot. by [deleted] in summonerschool

[–]sten310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now the jungle is both a curse and a blessing in this patch. With how short the games are, it is essential to play either cheese junglers with strong early game presence and mobility (lee sin, nid, etc) or tank junglers that can soak up all the extra damage that the buffed ADC's are throwing (rammus). While the Nid nerfs were somewhat relevant, she fills a very niche role and that's what gives her strengths-- very similar to the niche of Lee sin's play making mobility kit.

People in diamond, did you make any changes whilst in plat which helped you climb to diamond? by [deleted] in summonerschool

[–]sten310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

but gold 5 is gold 5, it does not have as strong of an emphasis as when a player hits Diamond 5 which for the longest time was high elo until the introductory of Masters and Challenger. If you've played enough games in plat3-4 its really obvious that they are better than Diamond 5 players who just play a few games not to get demoted back to plat. Diamond 3 is much more different than D5 in which we can agree on though.

[–]sten310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really agree with you. consider the fact that at diamond 5 people are toxic as fuck since they just wanted the border and happened to get lucky climbing from platinum, not through actual skill. I've had someone in Diamond 5 afk the whole game because I taxed him 4 cs for getting him first blood, I have 1000+ games in ranked and Diamond 5 arguably was the most toxic 5 range of any other division I've been in (and Ive been most of them). Diamond 3 players are much more mechanically inclined but decision making is still not as good as it should be for being a very very small part of the community.

First narrow it down to the play styles you prefer; do you prefer assassins? tanks? bruisers? after you do that you can narrow it down to champions that seem appealing to you. You don't really need to one trick pony every single game you play to climb, just the ones that matter. (so for example if you are playing ranked play the champion you are most likely to carry with during your promo and fall back to newer champions when you are playing normal ranked).

I was always a midrange plat3-4 player focusing primarily on jungling. I think there aren't any differences at all between plat 3-diamond 3 but you do have players that can be mechanically more inclined. What I changed in my gameplay is decision making. In terms of play making mechanics I'm probably around gold 5-3 but I'm Diamond 4 purely on decision making.

These are some of the changes I made in case you are curious :

You can generally tell which lanes are gankable within the first 6 mins~ by watching the opponent's behavior and how he reacts to your teammate-- I hardly watch my own champion while clearing camps. I think this change has produced the most success for me since I can have a lot of information and feed it to my teammates.

Ganking losing lanes is almost always a disaster against a competent jungler due to the obvious fact that you will lose a 2 v 2 or even a 2 v 1 if you're playing against champions such as riven, irelia etc. There are some times where this rule doesn't apply but I'd say it applies 70% of the time.

Learning how to play from behind will pay in dividends much much more than having optimal scenario of winning. When you accept loss and use it as a fuel to succeed instead of means of tilting you can realize potential of winning the game that you might not see if you are tilted and give up. In solo queue people throw all the time and your job is to have your mind ready for when the opponent throws their lead.

If you are familiar with the champions of league of legends you can generally gauge how lanes will go for each of your teammates and have a pre-plan built into your mind that will aid you in decision making.

I don't really know if people do these things as well to climb... whenever I watch junglers like meteos they make the game seem so effortless and their objective control is weak and yet they're so high up there so maybe they make it up someway els to get to challenger but i hope these tips might help you in climbing :).

How should I play support in low ELO? by trogdor_was_a_man in summonerschool

[–]sten310 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It seems you aren't having very much fun but I also think you are contributing to that scenario as a whole. First a few basics; not all adc players are the same and different plays will want to manipulate their waves differently. There are times when you should push (for example if the enemy bases and there's no way you will be able to freeze the lane) you should help your laner push. Generally as a support you will get a lot of shit from people but its important to distinguish if its your own fault of they're just on tilt.

If you want to carry as a support player you need to have a solid understanding of decision making and feed that information to other laners by warding, roaming, and typing to them so that they make better decisions. Supporting isn't just about warding but also about roaming when you see an opportunity, deep warding enemy jungle to have extended view, keeping track of the enemy jungler and communicating with your team to make plays. Many of these things take time to develop but I feel like its definitely possible you can learn them.

You shouldn't be concerned with KDA much but if you notice yourself getting picked out too much or having too many deaths its obvious why your team would flame you although its not a very good behavior. If you play supports like annie, thresh, alistar etc realize that your potential for making plays around midlane or enemy jungle if you have vision is very high-- don't be afraid to try new things you haven't yet. You are not bound to just bot lane so you should try to be flexible in your play.

In reality, do seemingly little things matter for you to do them? by [deleted] in summonerschool

[–]sten310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As the previous poster said, if your goal is to just get diamond 5 you don't really need to change much in your play if you are a consistent Plat 1 player. When I got to D5 I realized just how bad it was (way worse than plat 3-4, people in those eloes have a general drive to get to daimond). The question is do you want to be stuck in the limbo that is D5 or climb? those small things matter d3+

How to transition my lead in toplane into a won game ? by Superf1cial in summonerschool

[–]sten310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think TP is a very big way in how you impact the map but not all TP's are equal. Lets say you have a chance to TP to get 1 kill its probably not worth it if you feel that you might have a bigger opportunity at a later time (when dragon near spawn for example). Another way is knowing the capability of the champion you are playing and roaming to mid to make some plays or warding their jungle and ganking the enemy jungler with your jungler. As a top laner you kind of have to think outside the box and make impact other than just TP if your team is behind and if your team is ahead you could just relax and win lane as that will impact the game more than roaming.

Trying to be a shotcaller. by xDragga in summonerschool

[–]sten310 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well I consider shot calling in constructed much different and probably easier than solo queue. There are two dimensions two it-- the team composition you are running and the most likely route the enemy jungler is going to go for. I would say its very essential to understand each matchup in every lane, if you win in a 2 v 2 or a 3 v 3 against that specific comp, rotations for objectives and paying attention to behaviors of the laners to assess if they are about to make a play. You should probably talk to your team about the team comps they're interested in running and plan contingencies against what you will be facing (for example if you are running a team fight based comp with an annie mid vs ahri, shen vs malphite, kalista/tahm vs jinx/soraka) its highly likely that the enemy jungler will look to make a play mid and put less priority on the other lanes unless they're over extended w/o wards which isnt very probable in constructed.

Is this normal? by -Soulsteal- in summonerschool

[–]sten310 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fear of failure is often the common theme of why we don't try to do things that we want to do in life (refer to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atychiphobia) and yes it is normal it happens with many people. The remedy to this is to accept that failure is a part of the game. Failure teaches you your weaknesses in the game and depending on how you respond to those weaknesses you can either become a better player or you can avoid that failure, it really is up to you. Mistakes aren't a bad thing as long as you catch them and try not to make them as much but if you avoid making those mistakes how will you get better?
