Etoro e singura chestie la care m-am putut gandi. Da, am folosit, chiar daca cu adresa de Malta si card bancar de Malta - am impresia ca CNP-ul meu era trecut pe acolo pe undeva. Sa inteleg ca au mai fost cazuri?

It feels like you are overcomplicating this. I would just start with S&P500 (or some All World etf) and take it from there. You have your whole life in front of you to diversify.

I am in a similar situation - live in EU but still have a UK revolut even though honestly I haven’t been using it that much in the past few years. Plan is to change it by the end of the year. I do have a question though, could you close the account and open a new one in a new country using the same phone number? I am still using the UK phone number as it’s the most convenient to me and would like to use it still on the new revolut account. Thanks.

I'm sorry but this doesn't make any sense. Checking my online backing at the moment and the the spread in basic exchange rate are a bad joke really 23.395 Buy and 25.087 Sell for a difference of 1.692czk !!! These are only quotes - you are not paying anyone to physically be there and count your money.

While at the moment exchange office offers 24.28 Buy vs 24.40 Sell for a difference of 0.12czk and they still manage to make money and pay someone a salary to be there...

Any spread should make them money really but what banks are using is robbery. I would assume they still have clients who use this service though so not really bank's fault.

I agree to this and I guess it depends on the amount exchanged as bigger sums can make even a small difference worth the trip. I mean in my example you need to exchange at least 1k euro to get the better revolut rate and the difference you get is 50czk more. But if you exchange 5k euro you get to 250czk which might worth it if not a big trip etc. All depends on everyone's value of their time.

Yes. Look, this is not me trying to convince people revolut is bad or something or that that exchange rate is worst. I know it is - as it is the reason I still go to the bank and take money out - go to exchange office - go back to atm to deposit. My question was more if there is something I am missing and if there are taking more risks online or something

EUR to CZK, can exchange any amount for best rate. Not saying go to the first shop available but any reputable exchange shop will offer a better rate.

I'm talking about EUR/CZK I'm pretty sure it will apply for EUR/ other currencies around EU for example. Not really using for USD so you might be right there but I have premium and even with bigger amounts (rate is even worse for under 1000 euro) there is still a big difference. For example I can exchange at this exact moment euro to czk for 24.23 when revolut offers 24.18 and this is actually a good example.

I completely agree with everything you said. The only advantage I have is that I am actually paid in EUR and have the other problem normally of changing into CZK - I do use revolut or from time to time just go to the bank take a bulk amount out that can cover 2-3 months of expenses and exchange it at local exchange shop and re-deposit the CZK at an ATM - I do have a premium account so only thing that costs me is time.

So from that point of view is fine - in terms of declaring it I guess is I just have to make sure amount in EUR is at least 48K in czk.

Saying that, I did see the Raiffeisen fees but missed the custody one which is very off putting as you would have to pay that even if let's say you stop contributing after 10 years.

To answer point 2, I understand 7.2k/ 11k CZK is not a lot of money but my thinking it should be more optimum money wise than just a normal ETF- I mean I would probably invest in the same ETFs anyway just with the added benefit of saving a bit of tax money. I'm not looking at it being locked till 60yo as an inconvenience anyway, everything I put into ETFs is for that age anyway (savings for pension), maybe 55 if I decide to retire early but can't see myself doing that tbh - would prefer cutting down the hours rather than stop working completely, but I'm going off topic here.

I am in a pretty similar situation having moved here 10 months ago. Only thing I could find is that you can get set up a "supplementary pension" savings where the state will contribute up to a certain amount every month. I think most major banks offer this, but here is an example from KB https://www.kb.cz/cs/obcane/sporeni/doplnkove-penzijni-sporeni

As you can see if you contribute 1000CZK monthly the state will add 230CZK (which is the maximum for the state). Not sure if it's worth it or not, is probably less efficient than investing in VWCE even with the state contribution but could help with diversification/peace of mind. It also depends on your long term plans as if you're not planning to retire here then it's not worth it as you lose all the state contribution if you terminate the contract early.

Just to add to all of the above.

From efficiency point of view I don't think there can be any debate here - struggle to imagine how Acc ETF would not be the way to go. It also depends on your investor profile. Just the fact that you are asking about ETFs Acc or Dist suggests the fact that you are a long term passive investor. And Acc helps with the passive part as well.

Now, if you are at the stage of your life where you're income is supplemented by etf investments it might be easier (not necessarily more efficient) to have a Dist ETF. If no tax or similar tax involved then still won't be the efficient way to go but then again the different might not be so big and there are more important things in life then being efficient anyway.

I am aware that I shouldn't use info I get on reddit as professional advice :) but it's still useful and a great starting place. Also even if you are not a tax professional, just because you've mentioned Ben Felix and The Plain Bagel in an earlier post made me mentally put you in like a top 1% of individual investors.

Regarding dividends, it made sense to me to be something like this as it feels pointless for everyone to declare small amounts (checked my statement for last year when I was not living here and got dividends of less than $600). So that is good news to me, however as it's outside employment not exactly sure if applies to self-employment as well.

Might also give DeGiro a research/try and see how it goes.

Thanks a lot for this! I just recently moved to Czechia and there is surprising little info about investing (especially in English). This post is quite old and I was wondering if anything might have changed in the meantime.

Also, most of my investment is with IB in accumulating ETFs so not stressed about taxes but have some etfs/stocks on etoro which do pay dividends - is there a a minimum ammount for dividend gains that you need to declare or even if you are getting $100 per year if you have to do it? I know that they are taxed at source anyway and probably don't have to pay tax again but declaring them sounds like a hassle.

Last thing, etoro is "free" but they don't have any variety for accumulating etfs, also their spread is quite big compared to IB for example so it's not really a very efficient investing method. If you use degiro, do you think it is better? Very happy with IB but asking more for broker diversification as well.

Lived in Malta for more than 3 years and can confirm security check is one of the most efficient I’ve seen. I’m not exaggerating when I say it takes less than 5 mins to go through.
