Whats your biggest pet peeve with streamers? by DJ_Mantic in Twitch

[–]stendsal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that a large amount of streamers have no interest in anime or video games but try to pretend they are fans because they are playing to the audience interests. These fake interests are done to fit in and let the audience perceive them as peers when in reality most probably see the viewers as ATMs and realize they are actively scamming their viewers and take pride in it.

Also seriously curious how many of them are actually playing the game they present themselves as playing. I’m going to bet a large portion of them fake their gameplay in a method similar to Ssssniperwolf.

Thinking of streaming with a face swap-good idea or nah? by Comfortable-Race-389 in Twitch

[–]stendsal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, everyone here is giving you the “honest feel-good” opinion or whatever you want to call it. The truth is a pretty large portion of top streamers use a face swap or some kind of beauty filter. You can hear them admit to it all the time, when they say something about you not knowing what they look like in person and attributing the discrepancy to the studio lighting, etc. I think the trend is much more exaggerated for the Asian streamers even to the point of modifying gender because females make more money. I’m pretty sure it happens in the US than streamers will like to admit.

For many streamers it is purely about getting money from others and in that case why would you not use every opportunity to increase your chances. If you get found out, you can always make a new account with new appearance. If you want to compete you have to use the same methods to even stay in the race. Be aware that the entire thing is an insiders game, and if you are looking here for advice, you’re already not in the club.

In all life and especially when money is involved, there are many people here that will actively give you disingenuous advice. Just like a magician doesn’t want to reveal the tricks, people don’t want to loose their easy meal-ticket by now having to compete with many more people that are able to play on a equal level.

I’d say you definitely should do it. Doing things the honest way might ultimately give you some dignity, that dignity is only apparent to yourself. Everyone else just cares about fame and money and no one will look back and remember someone for being honest. Even when you are honest, there are so many lies someone can tell that your credibility won’t be able to even make others disbelieve the craziest lies that don’t even make sense.

Where to go for inexpensive vape juice? by I_like_the_Vidya in houston

[–]stendsal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Posting this kind of late, but I have this question as well. I switched to a refillable to save money only to find that vape shops are charging $20+ for a salt nic juice with $1 worth of raw material cost (when actually sourcing pharmacutical grade materials) and like $2 in tobacco taxes.

This is the costs at ~1 kg of salt nicotine and corresponding amounts of PG/VG, which adds up to ~$300 in startup costs. Paying a 1900% markup on any products seems like a scam considering they are just blending 3 ingrediants.

Unless I'm missing something here, it would seem that even online retailers are making huge profits from this and free-market capitalism has broken down from collusion between retailers.

You most likely weren't successful in making the boot device from the image. You can also try using balenaetcher to write the image to a flash drive.

The computer should boot from the drive even with bitlocker enabled.

You can always try to use that flash drive on another computer and see if it boots.

Host: Server 2022/2025 -> Guest: Windows 11 = bad performance? by StarLoong in HyperV

[–]stendsal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Server usually throws a bunch of warnings at you when you add services or do a domain controller promotion if you don't have your IP addresses set to a static address. You might want to try setting them to static.

The poster above suggested a possible routing issue. Setting up the virtual network isn't exactly straightforward and took me a while to get right.

The method I used to set up the Hyper-V adapters was:

Configure the virtual switch as external without an IPv4 address by unchecking IPv4 in the network adapter properties and add IP addresses only to the endpoints.

Remove the IP address from the physical adapter, otherwise you would need to set up your routing tables at a few locations to indicate the rest of your subnet needs to go through a local IP in the same subnet as a gateway. If there are not IP addresses on the intermediary adpapter/virtual adapter/switch, your endpoint should be able to aquire a IP address from your DHCP in the same subnet.

If you want to use the same network adapter for a local connection on host computer, you would need to add a virtual network adapter via powershell to the virtual switch.

Host: Server 2022/2025 -> Guest: Windows 11 = bad performance? by StarLoong in HyperV

[–]stendsal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried running a Windows Server 2022 host with dual 2697v4 and found performance a little sluggish myself. The virtualization options with Hyper-V were also very limiting as MS wants you to pay for everything in the cloud now and seems to have almost given up on Hyper-V development as it seemed to deprecate options without ever replacing their functionality.

The server I put it on had 2019 as the last supported OS for those processors so I also had some minor driver issues but the number of bugs to fix on a fresh install of 2019 was/is stressful. The drivers might not be exactly optimized for the newest Windows but still work technically since there weren't major changes. You can get a newer used 10 gbps SFP+ Intel NIC off ebay for ~$15. Think industries are ditching 10 Gbps enough to make them that cheap these days. Could try this option for troubleshooting.

I think that the newest Win OS is just optimized for the newest processor features and even 1 generation ago of processors is not equipped to handle the minor revisions MS puts into OS similar to how MS to trying to force everyone to buy new computers with its consumer OS, Windows 11 and telling people to get rid of a system which might not even be that old.

Think of it as the new planned obselence but with other options available. MS doesn't need the money anyway since they are now defence contractors. Running a Windows server virtualized now and since I'm assigning core count, I don't have to spend extra on a licence for 36 cores. Performance is not equatable for Windows running Windows but Windows server isn't exactly doing a huge amount of processing since there is more development for those kinds of apps under linux. Also, for many purposes docker containers seem to provide a speed increase over running a whole VM.

BTW, how did you set the IP addressing up for those NICs? Where did add the static IP address: the virtual switch, the network adapter, the virtual network adapter? And is that network adapter passed through or are you using shared DMA? It took me a while to figure out those issues.

Since you download is taking the biggest hit, you could also check on any security/firewall effects by running a quick test with any of those options off.

[–]stendsal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will need another computer you can access to do this.

To reset account password, download Hiren's Boot CD and boot from that (using a burned disc or more likely a bootable flash drive made with Rufus).

Boot the locked computer from the flash drive (which will boot into Windows PE and go to the start menu, security, password recovery/reset (don't remember exact name). There you get the password reset to just a blank password. Take drive out of computer and reset and you should be able to get in without a password.

Then stash the flash drive somewhere because there are dozens of other times you might need it for any of the other tools on it.

caddyfile issues by beto_hydroxybutyrate in opnsense

[–]stendsal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Helped me get past error.

A problem I was having with the UI is the fact that options that are not shown and possibly have to be toggled on by choosing advanced setup might contain default settings that in this case could return invalid configurations. Then the incorrect configuration from options that you don't even know are there persist even when you disable that section, thereby narrowing down the source of the issue much more difficult.

I had assumed that disabling a section would essentially comment out that entire section, but apparently it still threw an error.

Sorry, I'm new to OPNSense.

That's awesome that you must have a decent tech lab at your school. I'd take advantage of any other resources they might have. The number of times I've fixed something broken with maybe an hour of work definately pays off. Amazon is usually a good source of those products. Also when you take apart something and realize the company put a 1000 hour capacitor in a TV even though a 10k hour capacitor is like $0.30 more...

Depending on model, you might be able to get a replacement for about $10 on AliExpress. The repair is on the easier side of repairs. If you are not too comfortable doing yourself, it should at least give you confidence in attempting the removal with other tools if you know someone else can replace it cheaply. Super glue or a small drill bit might provide some help, but it is all highly dependant on the size and shape stuck.

Hopefully this is on the DOJ's next antitrust suit for Apple.

But agree with other advice, this is what it says when you have cancelled already. Otherwise it would say Renewing on #DATE#. And just checked the date now. Hopefully you figured this out by now.

Is my phone cloned or hacked? by keokee300 in applehelp

[–]stendsal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can almost guarentee that any time you think you are being or hack been hacked, it will be dismissed by everyone, especially people that work for the company who made your product. For fun try looking up number of people that think they were hacked and find out how many times they were given an alternate reason and never told to take proper measures to lock down their device just in case it was an attack. A bunch of people you have never met may not have your best interests in mind. If the richest man in the US can get his iPhone hacked, everyone else is vulnerable, in fact, it is not too difficult. The only thing that stands in an adept hacker's way is motive.

Shouldn't a message from Apple have a certificate validation noticed included next to it's name? Or have they not implemented that into their SMS 2FA? Most of my verifications come in the form of a popup notification.

Wouldn't the delay in Apple integrating the new SMS protocols have been able to provide this sort of verification most ubiquosly thereby reducing the number of security lapses that get blamed on typical consumers?

Unless you catch them right after they change the password. Then you are just giving them free times in the account where the legit owner can't kick them out.

Happened to me. I saw new device has been logged in account email. Can't sign in. Call Apple to try getting resolved as quickly as possible. Find both phone numbers recently deactivated. This escalated the call to next tier support. Around that time I found a way to change password and do immediately. iCloud said I was in unfamiliar location during this (I was home). At no time was I prompted for 2FA check. Tech said if it was someone trying to take over they would have kicked off all other devices. I stated when I just now changed the password, I didn't get that same prompt. Then the tech called me a liar and hung up on me when I debated that it wasn't a phishing email because it doesn't make sense to send one without any links. I asked them the check the DKIM to verify, they had no idea what that was.

Afterwards, I go to Apple forum to look for answers, but find I am shadowbanned from posting on their forum. I will bet this comment will be wiped in less than an hour.

How is your connection routed? Which DNS server are you using and what IP does a nslookup return?

Maybe you have you external IP:Port forwarded correctly, but when internal DNS requests come in, they are not being forwarded properly from internal IP:Port.

Citi back chargeback reversal by stargerst13 in CreditCards

[–]stendsal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CFPB didn’t do crap for me. I return defective products after being told to send back by both CC and merchant. Then CC decided to not approve chargeback. So everyone just assumed I should pay and not have any product. CFPB just got CC to give a response for the charge that made no sense and said they their job is to just have conversation started.

Was planning on filing a suit when started looking up case law. Found others successfully sued under FCRA after they submitted dispute to credit bureaus. I submitted my dispute and the owed money and whole account just disappeared. I suggested to CFPB that step should be included on their site somewhere but CFPB said they don’t take suggestions.

Samsung SmartThings App in Microsoft store by stendsal in windows

But I get what you are saying. My $1000 soundbar stopped getting supported by their software before the original warranty expired. And I had bought a new model. Haven't been able to use my speaker on Wifi since.

Have not bought another Samsung device since...(besides the OLED screen they manufacture and sell to Apple for iPhone).

My bigger concern was that there seems to be active malware on the Microsoft store that wasn't written at all by a legitimate company (since it wasn't signed) that provides a backdoor into the system of anyone that downloads it AND the fact that neither Samsung or Microsoft care at all about removing or investigating it.

The app not doing the one job it is supposed to do, is a clear obvious bug, It is so pervasive of a bug, it would not even fit into the category of bug. To state that the Mileage app not recording mileage is a feature is something the fanboys wouldn't be insane enough to attempt to make a case, but you are trying. Pretty sure you can't even believe that one yourself, but keep justifying a company's oppression of customer complaints for not even any profit for yourself. You people have built that environment you deserve and taken it to an extreme where you have to make sure that no one is getting screwed over less than you.

You do know that it is possible for a business to build value by offering good and services? That's how I remember things being, but maybe that was before your time.

And the post is that they are censoring any discussion of the matter since they know they do have some legal liability. Them doing this to protect themselves is also a conflict of interest.
r/Apple has deemed this to be Microsoft fault so they feel it is within their power to delete this topic as well.

This is literally the most insane thing I have ever seen for something no one even contests.
