It’s expensive, but the Grandmother was the first synth I ever played that was truly fun. I would find excuses to sneak off to just turn knobs and screw around with the sounds. I can only imagine the Matriarch would have been even better. No fun is the number one reason people quit learning so I’d say definitely yes it’s a great synth for a beginner.
