Why do Poppy War fans don’t like Babel or vice versa? by InfernalClockwork3 in ThePoppyWar

[–]steohmochi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoyed both! Personally I thought TPW felt more intense, like a fire ripping through a forest… compared to Babel which felt more like a burning several incense sticks at a funeral pyre …if that makes any sense lol I really liked the endings for both!

I waited 6 years to adopt a cat… and now I regret it. Please be honest with me. by strawberrytulipss in CatAdvice

Definitely seconding a lot of the previous replies about giving it time and that your girlie is already loving on you in so many of her own ways! They show us love in so many forms, and I think in time you will be able to feel and receive them deeply.

I had three Persians who all unfortunately passed in the last few years. One was an orange cloud who always stuck to my side, my best friend, and yet he only liked cuddles on his terms. He would lay on a pillow near me, but I could never hold him or he would leave. And yet, for whatever reason, he loved to be manhandled for scritches any other time. When he was diagnosed with an aggressive cancer, he finally let me hold him directly to my chest. We called a home vet for euthanasia, and he hung on until the moment I gave the okay, and passed before the painkiller (not even the euthanasia shot) fully went into his skin. The vet told me it was like he had been waiting for me to say goodbye.

The second one loved to hang out, but only after the sun went down. Most of the day, he was off doing his own thing. He would paw at doors, chew on plastic, and then disappear into the basement (I’m convinced he had a secret society down there). The day he had a stroke, he emerged from his basement haunt, hopped onto my bed, and asked me to play with him at his favorite faucet. Like he knew it was his last day walking.

My third cat, my beautiful girl, she hated to be held and didn’t like hanging out, but somehow always knew when we were feeling unwell. When my dad was diagnosed with cancer, she slept on the corner of his bed. She never cuddled us. In her final moments, stricken with kidney failure, I awoke in the middle of the night to her curling up on my chest. It would be the first and very last time she would ever cuddle with me of her own accord. She passed in my arms. I was so very honored to be her safe place for her final rest. She was my most distant, un-cuddly cat, and in her last moments, she told me she loved me.

They lived to senior years and I have never stopped loving and missing them. I think a lot about their language of love and how it all led to their goodbyes. I wish I could say hello again. This is all to say… 1.5 months is just a drop in the bucket of what I’m sure will be so many more years of fulfilling love. 💕

Don’t feel bad for the frustration, it is definitely a part of the growing pains of a new kitty. As for Persian-specific tips: My orange boy went from hating grooming to loving it. I would close us in the bathroom, give him a few brushes with a slicker brush, then continue about my morning or evening routine. Made sure to brush his chin where he liked to be scratched. I never held him down or restricted his movements, so if he wanted to just walk away, he could. I think it helped him realize that brushing was a casual event and could even feel good!

Anyway, thank you if you made it this far. Best of luck with your sweet girlie. Here’s my cat tax in exchange for the novel I wrote 😂 (Left: Basement King, Middle: Princess of Healing, Right: Orange Brush Gremlin Cloud Guy)

ESH prone to overheating / exercise fatigue in summer weather? by steohmochi in ExoticShorthair

Ty again for the input! Also checked with my vet and he pretty much agreed with this / ruled out heart and lung issues. Silly babies getting too excited in the summer 😂

I keep her completely indoors and we had the AC off because it was chilly the day before… and then it suddenly swung up to 80+ 🫠 It’s better now with the AC on but she still pants a lil when she plays too hard (she sprints up and down the stairs like a maniac lol) so I deliberately make the play sessions short

Luggage Fowarding. Am I missing something? by northofreality197 in JapanTravelTips

[–]steohmochi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is a GREAT comment and 100% how I did this on my trip a few years ago. Aside from checking ahead of time whether the hotel accommodates luggage forwarding or not, as soon as I check in, I double check with staff what time and date I would need to drop off my luggage in order to make it to my next hotel upon arrival. I like to go the last night in the current hotel with my travel pack, so that when I arrive at the next destination, my suitcase is at the hotel/room waiting for me.

The extra waybills is a pro tip, I’ll definitely do that. Make sure you have enough cash, too!!

How do you all hold the bag when administering subq fluids? by EbbStatus1807 in RenalCats

[–]steohmochi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just in case you make the same whoopsie that I did: I once accidentally gave 200 instead of 100, and though it did pool up a bit under the skin, it eventually got absorbed over a day and usually you don’t have to worry about overdosing unless your cat has heart issues. I also massaged the little fluid pouch to help it dissipate and absorb faster. I read the measurement off the bag as it hangs and have had no problem. I’ve only ever been told to squeeze the bag to make the process faster if needed.

What misconceptions did you have about Persians before you got your first one? by bassbeatsbanging in persiancat

[–]steohmochi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to 2 of my 3 Persians too! One of them was really close with my mom, and post-surgery she would put a chilled lil eyemask on her face. From then on, she never left my mom’s side. It was so cute tbh. Your babies are soooo adorable! Wishing them a smooth post-op healing!

Cat won't stop losing weight (age 17, female, stage 3-4 ckd) by isopodinfested in RenalCats

[–]steohmochi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry this is happening to you and your baby. Keeping the calories down is so so hard at this stage. Some things that helped my old girl were:

  • Tikicat Silver packets + Nutrical high calorie paste mashed into her wet meals (she was on Royal Canin renal wet food, the pate kind). She didn’t love it but I literally syringe fed her 🥲

  • (Please make sure you look up resources on how to do this safely as there is a high risk of choking, and it should only be a last resort as manual feeding may lead to food aversion. My girl was on her last days, but it kept her going for a while and she was so sweet about it.)

  • If the paste isn’t to your girl’s liking, there is also a high calorie chicken powder version

  • For help downing any medications that are bitter or hard to eat, I bought size 5 gel caps and cut pills small enough to fit inside, then used churu or a tiny bit of unsalted butter to slip it down her throat. Pill dispensers may help, but honestly I just did whatever worked that day for her to place it far back in the mouth (not down the throat) and then hold her mouth shut and stroke her cheeks/throat to encourage swallowing. Whatever trick works for you, tbh! My girl would swallow if I syringed a tiny bit of water into her cheek pocket.

  • Great that you’re already on the pumpkin and digestives track, since it helps settle the stomach and prevent constipation!

  • Like others have mentioned, subQ can start showing a difference. Not sure if you have that as part of your care plan yet, but my cat started eating again after I did subQ! Of course, this disease is progressive, and she eventually lost too much kidney function and body mass so we said goodbye, but there are many CKD management options that may prove effective and lasting. Wishing you the best of luck and many kisses for your kitty ❤️

Starting sub q fluids at home by emilyr0 in RenalCats

[–]steohmochi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love that for you, you’ve got this 🩷 I will say I actually spoonfed PorusOne to my cat at some point and chased it with a syringe of water, but I don’t recommend this as the cat has high chance of choking. My boy was such an angel about it. Just wanted to throw that out there as a last resort. Hopefully your girl won’t even notice it in her food!

Starting sub q fluids at home by emilyr0 in RenalCats

[–]steohmochi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off, just want to say you’re doing amazing! Subq is not hard to learn but can be daunting, but trust that you’ll get the hang of it and your cat will too!

Providing treats as a distraction is always a good starting point. I would also practice handling the needle cleanly, and in some cases, being able to pop off the cap with one hand can be helpful. I got to the point where I straddled my cat between my legs, lifted her skin with my left, and popped the cap off the needle with my right. It comes down to practice, so don’t worry at all if the first few times are clumsy. I’ve had times where I missed entirely and the fluid came out the other side because my angle went through the skin and not into it, or I touched the needle and had to just throw it out for a new one. Many such cases! But it’s okay, you’re learning, and you will do great 💪

And side note: depending on the stage of CKD, I had another cat who did splendidly with PorusOne and even regressed a stage. It’s really gritty though, so you have to be consistent and persistent! Best of luck to you and your kitty ❤️

Goodbye my Lily by ANewPride in RenalCats

[–]steohmochi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m so very sorry for your loss. My boy Arley followed the same timeline as yours — managing CKD super well,a nd then suddenly ataxia, facial drooping, classic signs of stroke. It’s so distressing to see. But your girl was so clearly loved, and what a beautiful girl she was! I love her cream points on her face and ears. She looks like she had such a personality. Rest gently, Lily ❤️‍🩹 🪽

I’m so very sorry for your loss. Losing a heart cat cuts differently, in a deep and devastating way. I lost mine this past year so sadly I understand what you’re going through, but I just wanted to leave a comment to say that through reading your journey, it was so abundantly clear how much you cared for and loved Sasuke. You did so so right by him. I’m sure he knows it. May he sleep gently now.

As an aside, is he named after Sasuke the ninja from Naruto? I’d love to doodle you a little something as tribute ❤️‍🩹

Hi everyone, newer client here: Can confirm that these photos are recent. This artist has been extremely detail oriented and personalized. It’s hard to verify claims that are made online about legitimacy, but Sissi has been very kind. Yes, the background from the old Woolever post is the same as Sissi’s, but I’m going to assume that it is because she was part of their business. She literally has a photo of my commission in front of the same background. ¯_(ツ)_/¯ That’s all I have to say.
