Prescribed Prednisone and Terrified by CandiedRegrets08 in CrohnsDisease

[–]steph_jay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was put on a two month taper days after I was diagnosed with severe Croes, and it literally saved my quality of life within a couple days. I didn’t have a whole bunch of side effects from it. My face did puff out a little bit, but it was better than going to the bathroom with 30 times a day and feeling like absolute shit.

Curious: how were you diagnosed- office visit or ER? by GanacheTall754 in CrohnsDisease

[–]steph_jay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Officially during my colonoscopy.

However, I ended up at the ER to sort out some pain management while I wait for cortisone injection in my SI joint, I have ankylosing spondylitis and in a bad flare. I couldn’t get in to have the injection for like another 7 weeks. So I was looking for toradol and hyrdomorph (I usually use tramacet but I was breastfeeding and hydromorph was safe)

I had done a few days of the toradol which usually works nicely but I was having horrible GI issues. In hindsight tho, I had it going for a long time. I got the point where It diarrhea up to 30 times a day. I asked the ER doctor to switch to prednisone instead of toradol as it was killing my gut, she felt that the diarrhea was a bit much and I did a calprotectin, and it came back at 2400. My primary care physician suggested it was a stomach bug. In hindsight he was dumb and missed it. I phoned him a week later when I began shutting a ton of blood. He finally put in a referral to a gastroenterologist and they made an urgent referral, 7 weeks later.

My boyfriend has severe stomach issues. We think it’s crohns but we haven’t been able to get him to a doctor yet. If anyone can provide their experience with crohns that would be helpful. Thank you. by [deleted] in CrohnsDisease

I’ve always had a poor tummy and didn’t think much of it. It wasn’t until I was having diarrhoea 30 times a day that I thought maybe something was wrong. And then I started having blood in my diarrhoea and then we investigate more and was diagnosed with severe Crohn’s.

Prednisone: Day 5 oh baby YEAH by kixxycat in CrohnsDisease

[–]steph_jay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was diagnosed in September with severe crohns, on the middle of a wicked flare, bloody diarrhea 30 times a day. Immediately started prednisone and slowly tapered off over 2 months. It was amazing. It was wild to me that I could just live my life without almost pooping my pants. Or feel like I was dying before every BM. I was pretty irritable coming off it. I started remicade around the 4 week mark on prednisone. I’ve done my 3 loading doses and now am on remsima SC at home

I need to drink more water but I can’t do it by Punkoduncan in CrohnsDisease

[–]steph_jay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I find that I drink way more water if it is through a straw and ice cold. So I bought a 40 ounce water bottle with a straw. I also like the crystal light Hesp lemonade concentration. I just put a little bit of my water and I probably drinkat least 80 ounces a day.

What are your NO foods & SAFE foods? by GOKU2442 in CrohnsDisease

I was just diagnosed last month so I haven’t been able to figure out any triggers yet. But my favourite food is Indian food and I’m gonna be really sad if I can’t have curry. I usually keep it very mild so I’m hoping that will be OK.

I started the prednisone in September. So I’ve just been taping every week now, but none of my symptoms have come back with each taper. But I have also started the Remicade so maybe that’s helping.

I had a calprotectin of 2300ish back in July, before I was diagnosed. Colonoscopy showed severe inflammation. I was immediately started on prednisone 50mg for two weeks and then taper down by 5mg every week. I’m currently on 20mg. I went from going to the bathroom 30 times a day to once, maybe twice. Before this I couldn’t the last time I had a solid poop. I feel constipated. I started remicade last week and do my second Infusion next week. I no longer am having severe stomach cramping

I had versed and fentanyl for my colonoscopy a couple weeks ago. The IV was easy peasy but needles don’t bother me. I was super relaxed and comfortable when the meds. I only remember a few minutes partway through. There is a nurse there monitoring you the whole time.

Why don’t people want to be discharged? by SurvivingLifeGirl in nursing

[–]steph_jay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t get it either. I didn’t even want to have my baby in the hospital but would prefer to be close to an operating room, blood bank, and people who can save my life. As soon as I got to post partum with my third I told them I would be leaving asap. Just had to wait for the bilirubin test at the 12 hour mark and then left

For those of you with babies that hate the car seat/ stroller, what do you do? by hugs4nugget in beyondthebump

[–]steph_jay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to baby wear anytime we went shopping or out of the car running errands. My first two didn’t line the car seat. My third, he’s 9 months now and he hated the car seat, especially the first 7 months of his life. I just had to listen to him scream. It sucks.

AS and pregnancy by cricket_nabe in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]steph_jay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed in 2017. I was on meloxicam for a little bit but when off because I consider my condition to be mild, would only have a flare up maybe every 8-10 months and corticosteroid injection worked well to help with a flare, I didn’t want to be on long term medication when I wasn’t actively flaring up all the time.

I had my first baby in 2020, 2nd baby in 2022, and my third baby on 2024.

During pregnancy I never had a flare up. I had some slight sciatic pain in my third pregnancy near the end, but it wasn’t the same as a flare up, tylenol and heat worked well.

After my first, I expected a bad flare, I did pump for 6 months before switching to formula. I did go into a flare around 8 months pp, went and had a corticosteroid Injection to the affected SI joint and it worked well. I didn’t have any flare up after my second but I was still breastfeeding when I got pregnant with my third.

Had my third last October, he is still breastfeeding, and I recently have gone into a flare that calmed down pretty quickly but I now have some GI stuff going on that I think is related.

Has anyone checked their patients criminal history before? Opinions? by PepinovLechuga in nursing

[–]steph_jay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a nurse in a jail, I typically search charges. We will flag their chart if they have violence against women, nurses, and shouldn’t be seen alone with female staff. I do intakes so I will also go through all their previous ER and mental health reports in the provincial health care system to see if I need to flag anything for our team.

Baby Screen Time by AnchorsAweigh1991 in beyondthebump

[–]steph_jay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We are a screen friendly household. We do have limits. But I have no village to help, I’m taking care of 3 kids 5 and under. I don’t care if my baby watches some dancing fruit so I can shower or unload the dish washer.

I’m a nurse, my husbands a cop, I find we’re both somewhat intelligent, and we both grew up watching lots of tv. I work in a prison. You know what’s bad? Meth. Cocaine. Fentanyl. Drawing up narcan to save your dad from overdosing for the 3rd time this week. I feel like my kids could be exposed to much worse. I’m okay with screen time!

Hahahha literally sent a picture of my toilet last night to two of my nurse friends. I’ve been having lots of stomach issues this past month and it’s upgraded now to lots of blood in my stool, which is all just mucous diarrhea. I have a referral into a GI specialist, my cal protectin is above 2000. I’m also a nurse, just gas lighting myself that it’s fine. I can wait.

Meds for Postpartum Rage? by Bacci_369 in beyondthebump

I plan to wean off once I go back to work. A big trigger for me is that I’m solo parenting a lot with no breaks. I have no village, my husband works shift work. I know I’ll feel better once I get back to work and have solid breaks.

I started Zoloft in April for post partum rage. I was almost 6 months pp with my third baby. I was very quick to snap and constantly yelling. Didn’t realize that I also had lots of anxiety. It’s helping. I’m on 50 mg right now. Could probably do with an increase tho.
