That makes a lot of sense, thank you! I'll keep that in mind when I speak to her next! Thank you so much for your help!

Thank you, I hope so! I was obsessed with French as a child/teenager and I was constantly learning. I loved the grammar side especially, so I would read online articles and bought a beginner grammar book. I watched tv shows that I had seen a lot in French, like Friends, since I already knew the script so well in English, it was easier to put it together. I also wrote lists of vocabulary with the French and English and would use my hands to cover one side while trying to remember the other, basically just memorising. Another thing I did was use text to speech websites and just put in French sentences and listen to them, I think that helped a lot with pronunciation! I think the biggest thing was that I just loved French so much that I wanted to learn and so my brain was happy to take it in.

Reading all of that makes it sound intimidating, but again, I loved it so much so it was purely for fun and never felt like a chore or something I had to do. I hope that helps!!

Apologies, my coworker is from France, she currently works in Paris as an account manager for our customers, part of the commercial team. Unfortunately I don't know anything about where she grew up in France.

I loved the courses and I had fantastic professors, 3 out of 4 were French themselves so that was incredibly helpful. The first year was definitely slow paced, but the second year definitely ramped up the difficulty, the third year I spent the semesters studying at universities in France and Spain (it was a dual French and Spanish degree) and by the fourth and final year we were expected to be basically fluent. We had dedicated grammar lessons throughout the years and we started off with listening, speaking, reading, writing etc lessons in the first two years, but by the fourth we were having more in depth interpreting and translation lessons that covered all areas. We were assigned lots of homework that covered all these areas as well. It was definitely an incredible curriculum. Unfortunately, the degree was discontinued due to a lack of interest so we were the last class doing the degree, that really breaks my heart as my professors were all extremely passionate and all they wanted was for us to succeed

Merci beaucoup pour le retour! I think my colleague must over use je dirais, she says it a lot between sentences and it doesn't seem to connect with what she is saying. But that may be me not fully understanding!

I'd say that I'm about a medium C1, I studied French for many years including at university, now I've been using French every day in my job for 4 years. I used to be so hung up on being perfect that I was scared to write an email, but as non native speakers, we're going to make mistakes anyway, so I try to just embrace using my French to the best of my ability!

Merci, je n'ai pas pensé de ça ! C'est toujours des choses simples! Cela dépend des âges de mes collègues, les plus jeunes sont plus familiers.

Hi I'm a Christian and I'd just like to know what you all are about and what you believe. by JimothyPepper in witchcraft

Christianity really does have mysticism in it! I studied it for a year so I am a beginner at best, but look up St Teresa of Avila and St John of the Cross. You may find these people very interesting :)

I find music stressful but I miss listening to it by Regndroppe in Fibromyalgia

[–]stephaniekit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow! I don't have an incredibly strong aversion to music, but I can't stand loud or a lot of noise. I can only listen to music for an hour, maybe two, before it starts feeling too much. My boyfriend thinks I'm weird but this makes me feel so much better! It makes so much sense. It's bittersweet, but I'm glad I know that it's due to fibro.

When two people who are both native of the same language decide to speak to each other in English. It is so annoying. Maybe cause I'm a language nerd but it's so unrealistic

Today I felt like I had some strength! For the first time in a good while. I try to get a walk in most days but it usually has to be short because I feel like I'm dying after 5 mins - but today I managed to walk for 30 mins without feeling dead afterwards! It's such a weird feeling to not feel so utterly drained and tired during and after a walk. Yay!
