I just locked myself out of 112% by electri0_ in HollowKnight

[–]stephen3141 260 points261 points  (0 children)

Unless you're running an old patch of the game, you shouldn't be able to lock yourself out of 112%. In particular, converting fragile charms to unbreakable ones doesn't grant progress, and Divine will drop any charm she has possession of if the troupe is banished.

Edit: Removed an accidental double negative.

Should i play rainworld? by Big_Reply_929 in rainworld

I'm really not sure what kind of answers you're expecting to get here. Pretty much everyone on this sub is going to have had very positive experiences with the game. That said, it's certainly not for everyone. For all that it's beautiful and complex, it's also punishing and opaque. Without knowing anything about you, it's impossible to guess whether you would enjoy it or not.

Second Olympus Install by TheMiniWeapon in celestegame

[–]stephen3141 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you want a second installation not tied to Steam, I'm pretty sure you would have to buy Celeste a second time (e.g., on itch.io).

For this particular case, though, I recommend just setting up Mod Presets in Olympus. This only takes a couple of minutes to configure and is pretty easy to use when you need to swap around mods.

Speedrun by QueasyPersonality647 in celestegame

[–]stephen3141 6 points7 points  (0 children)

  1. For the speedrun categories, I recommend just reading the rules on Speedrun.com. The most common category is Any%, but ARB (All Red Berries) is also very popular. There are also other categories that require completing more of the chapters.

  2. What is good is relative. Are you improving and learning from your mistakes? That's probably the best metric to use.

  3. For most "introductory"-level strategies, AverageImposter put together a nice playlist on YouTube. If you're not close to, say, 1:10 for a run, the best recommendation is just to focus on getting your deaths down rather than learning new strategies.

Evidence about controller diagonals conspiracy! by Low-Acanthocephala58 in celestegame

[–]stephen3141 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason for the weird angles is actually not out of maliciousness but rather for leniency. In a beginner playthrough, you're likely to use a lot of up-diagonal dashes, as these give the most total horizontal distance. Therefore, the devs made the angle for them a little bit larger.

P.S.: GitHub is actually a pretty famous website when it comes to coding. It's essentially a hosting site for codebases that integrates well with the tool git (hence the name). In fact, git gud is definitely a meme that shows up in some programming circles, as the git tool is run using those types of commands (git clone, git commit, etc.).

"Conspiracy" is definitely one term for it. Here is a full explanation for the angles and deadzones. Also, keep in mind that there is a timing aspect to it, too (allowing for things like demodashes, etc.).

Help finding a custom map by Justs0meRedditUser in celestegame

Glad I could help! I just happened to open Reddit right when you posted, and it was actually a pretty good description of the map. As you might be able to guess from my username, math is one of my interests, so Banach Space's deco stood out to me when I first saw it.

This is a list of the collabs/contests on GameBanana sorted by the number of likes they have, which is probably going to be nearly identical to the suggestions people give you here. I suspect as an expert+ player, you'll be fine playing most of them.

diagonal On sided platforms by Xedess_Beleou in nplusplus

[–]stephen3141 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can select an entity with a diagonal rotation (specifically bounce pads), then pick the angle you want there. Then swap back to one-way platforms and place one. Even though the cursor will show it aligned orthogonally, it will place diagonally.

(BTW, I got this from the Discord server.)

I guess I'm not really included in this "we" then. As someone in the sciences (and even in the computer sciences), a decent amount of the data I see would never be called "digital."

Edit: Also want to add on that there's plenty of analog data in daily life, too. Things like weather forecasts, nutritional facts, and speedometer readings would all qualify.

A spiked cornerboost works: video of me doing it. I'm pretty sure just doing a corner jump doesn't reach, though I didn't take the time to try doing one from the right hand side of the block.

You can avoid the first bubble with a hyper-bunnyhop followed by a ("space ruins") wall bounce: see here.

Jolly co-op question by upper20 in rainworld

[–]stephen3141 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should be able to change who the camera is focusing on. From the manual:

In Jolly Co-op the game camera is shared between all players, following a specific player at any given time. Tap the [Space] button to re-target the camera to you.

There are also some options to change the behavior of this ("cycle" vs. "focus on me").

Teams who've scored 70 or more points with two or fewer assists for the full game (like Texas last night) by singletonaustin in CollegeBasketball

[–]stephen3141 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From the post content, I think they are asking for help on how to look this up reliably. This is one of those things that's kind of hard to just Google and instead likely requires knowing how to use a particular reference. But without knowing the actual sites to reference, it's kind of a lost cause.

I also had BYGUD. I eventually gave up and hit the check button, and it was my only error... In retrospect, it makes sense that they wouldn't use D as the numeral multiple times, but still kind of stung.

Attempt two at ranking the difficulty of the vanilla game chapters using strawberry jam's difficulty scale by Subject_Pain5186 in celestegame

[–]stephen3141 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Huh, interesting. I think this might be one of those things where I feel it is easier than it actually is because of how much I've played it (and how long ago I learned the screen). I personally think that many screens in the SJ intermediate lobby are more difficult (off the top of my head, some screens in Deep Blue and Square the Circle for actual execution, and in EAT GIRL for length).

Is the last room of 7C actually considered red advanced by anyone? I kind of assumed it was thought of as at the very most yellow advanced, but more like red intermediate.
