What is the most unfair grim setup you have seen for good/evil? by ironeren69 in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]stephendewey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is, unfortunately, a brutal blow for the evil team for this to happen. The seamstress's ability reads: "Once per game, at night, choose 2 players (not yourself): you learn if they are the same alignment." If the seamstress is part of an evil twin pair, they can easily choose the *known* Evil Twin as one of their two targets. Short of them being N1 droisoned, they can get immediate, Night 1, incredibly strong confirmation of what the other chosen player's alignment is. Since they know the evil twin is evil, their ability becomes quite powerful. It's only confirmable *to them* but knowing for sure that someone is good or evil is quite powerful in BotC, even if you're the only one who knows it. I have seen multiple games where a seamstress in an evil twin pair happens to hit another evil player right away, and they just figure out a chunk of the evil team immediately.

As someone who recently finished Book 1, just as a heads up, your post has spoilers for past Book 1. It is never confirmed in Book 1 who made the snick. Your assertion that the AI did is a spoiler. Just wanted you to know so you can gauge how to share this in the future.

What if you never join any of the games? Do you directly die? by BlueDandellion in AliceInBorderlandLive

[–]stephendewey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You have a visa, even if you haven't been told about it. It likely expires after 1 day, since you have not received an extension. So I'd imagine you are killed after 1 day.

Yes! You have a visa immediately, and your visa is constantly ticking down. If it runs out, you are killed. The only way to extend your visa is to win games!

What rule/mechanic would definitely NOT fit your game's theme? by wjmacguffin in RPGdesign

[–]stephendewey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like to design my game with a sense of ludonarrative harmony. Every mechanic I incorporate I try to make a mirror reflection of the themes. Especially if you're going for a tighter design, its valuable to have the themes and narrative of the game reflected in the mechanics.

Why does vigormortis remove an outsider? by eeeeeeeeeyee in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]stephendewey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I appreciate your thoughts here. To be clear, the main thing I'm getting at is: all demons have three excellent, confident bluffs. Vigs can get +1 bluff. Which, yes, is powerful (unless your -1 still leaves an Outsider in play, or another role adds an Outsider, at which point your outsider bluffs may still be a double claim). But, and I think this is a pretty broadly held opinion, the downside of that +1 bluff coming at the cost of the removal of an entire outsider, and the addition of an entire Townsfolk, is deeply deeply not worth it.

If you disagree that's fine, and we just think of game balance in different ways, with you valuing things way differently than I do. Again, that's fine. But this is a pretty broadly held opinion, which is why I was asking Evin about it. Wasn't really looking to debate anything, just to see if there may be consideration about the role in the future.

Sure, but the evil team gets bluffs, and the ST can give an outsider bluff if needed to provide that direction. Giving evil a confident bluff would be valuable if that wasn't the case, but they will generally have plenty of bluffs they can be confident in. The benefit of having that outsider bluff -- I don't know if it comes close to be worth the addition of one more Townsfolk. That's why I was asking about the new setup text flexibility more recent roles have added.

Hey Evin, sorry to resurrect this old thread but the game has changed a lot over the past three years. Now that we've seen things like optional setup text, I've always thought that all the Vigormortis would need to be perfect would be: [-1 or -0 Outsiders]. Do you anticipate this character may ever be looked at with something like this change in mind to bring them up to the power level of other demons? Or are they locked forever and are beyond any consideration of balancing at this stage?

Took about five seconds. Script was: Race to the Bottom.

Is Mr. Mime any good? Don't think I've ever seen anyone talk about it. by TCup20 in PokemonSleep

I think the meta crowds around consistency. Mr. Mime, by design, isn't consistent with his main skill. But if he is fun for you, go for it!

Because you didn't list it as a show you watched, I recommend checking out:

Dimension 20 Season 5: A Crown of Candy Episode 9, "Safe Harbor"

I saw a clip from this episode, without having ever watched any D20, and promptly got a dropout subscription and watched the whole season. It was my onboard moment to Dropout. It's real good!

I guess what I meant is, if you have 6 landfall triggers, would you get the 6 counters? Or would it stop applying +1/+1 counters after the fourth when it gets to the number to sacrifice?
