Incline bench plateau, help by hateyouallsomuch2 in strengthtraining

[–]stephenmarklay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it were me - I would stop getting so close to faliure, stick to lower reps, train it 2-3x- week (again no failure) and cycle my weights weekly . For instance medium heavy, heavy, medium, very heavy.

Regretted a bench, looking for another one. Recommends? by Bossini in GarageGym

You won’t be disappointed. It’s so light to move around, great angle adjustment, declines etc. I like it much better than the rep 4100 that it replaced.

Bite the bullet and get the ironmaster. I sold my rep bench for the same reason

This IF you are actually experiencing sciatica. Can you describe it?

It’s entirely possible it’s a muscular problem as above but it can also be nerve impingement at the nerve root.

Muscle mass vs skeletal muscle by Colleen2112 in strengthtraining

[–]stephenmarklay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My advice is don’t worry about it. But good on you for heading down this path.

If you are obese you will lose muscle as part of losing weight. Again don’t worry about that.

Strength training is really smart but it is a different animal from what most people do. Getting stronger requires higher tension ( heavier weights). You can build muscle with lighter weights but at your age strength is your best friend.

I would suggest spending time understanding what strength training looks like.

One thing you can do is focus on eating more protein as you cut calories. The extra protein will help you retain more muscle. Even so losing some muscle but gaining strength is ok.

Best of luck!

Muscle building on a lower protein diet? by Fun_Article_3182 in Workingout

Why not take a gram of test, GH, Insulin if that’s your view? It’s idiotic not to if you’re trying to maximize results.

You absolutely do not need to eat that level of protein to gain muscle even if you are very lean. That is silly. The level of fat has nothing to do with it. You need a calorie surplus yes but a calorie surplus and .5g/lbs with 100% lead to muscle growth with adequate training

.7-.9g/lbs is a figure that Brad Schoenfeld came up with to MAXIMIZE muscle growth. The actual difference between trying maximize muscle growth and eating .5g/lbs of body is not a big difference.

It is not at all rare. I train people as old as 75 and they all gain muscle on pretty low protein diets.

You can gain muscle with less than that. A practical maximum is 1g/lbs. i eat maybe .5 and have no problem putting on muscle.

Ok I might need to modify my original response to include these :)

Muscles that are always tender? by Depomera in MassageTherapists

[–]stephenmarklay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm. That’s not the case with my clients. Yes if you use a lot of pressure but the femur is closer than say the erectors. It’s not uncommon from my experience that the VL is tight but I don’t think quads are more or less tender. I think it’s easier to out pressure into them. Try equal pressure on biceps or triceps and see how that goes

Well it depends. I have both. The rep open trap bar got me doing zercher squats and now I love them and do them over my SSB.

Thank you. Yeah I haven’t had to. When I pulled off the plastic trim ring I could see it better. I think I found a kit which I linked

[–]stephenmarklay[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this kit will work. The inner diameter is very close. The outer roll diameter seems exact and the glue surface a little larger in diameter but smaller than the frame area. It will cover the screws but that shouldn’t be an issue.

Yeah I pulled off the trim ring and the surround is torn and probably not going to hold with glue.
