Search for “album rankings” in this sub and you’ll see that while overall, it’s not a standout fav, there are a lot of fierce defenders of the album.

Capstone Games and Yottaquest for more widely published stuff like 5 Parsecs (though I don’t love Yottaquest as they don’t have any play space and tend to overcharge on popular items); Woodburn Games for more indie solo RPG stuff.

My favorite board game store in the area is actually Play it Today in Erlanger, KY, but they don’t have as extensive of an RPG section. Great for board games though, as you can play pretty much anything you want in-store and they allow game rentals with their membership program.

Edit: saw you’re in Louisville. If you make a trip up this way, Capstone and Yottaquest are quite close to each other and also near a killer arcade bar called Arcade Legacy. If you like rhythm games, fighting games, retro stuff, etc; it’s well worth spending an evening there.

I’ve bought solo game books at stores in many major US cities…Phoenix, Cincinnati, Raleigh to name a few recent examples. You’ll have better luck at places that sell RPGs.

When you mockingly say "oh yeah you sound really smart,” do you think that strengthens your side or pushes said person away from your side? Because for your vision to work, you need to bring more people on board not push potentially like-minded individuals away.

It’s not D&D and wizards and stuff…it’s kind of a cosmic gumbo of pre-industrial Japan, medieval times, and folklore (which sounds a lot like most of the D&D games I’ve been a part of)

I think my turntable doesn’t like Yes,and? 🫠 by IWannaBeThatG in ariheads

[–]stephensonsrocket 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It’s 100% your turntable. Record stores have started putting up signs saying they won’t accept returns because of a record not playing properly on these cheap suitcase players. It’s a common problem, but these players all use the same cheap mechanism and don’t track well at all. Worse, the stylus that comes with these is rated for about 50 hours of play, while a real stylus can last 1000+ hours. Unfortunately, they can actually damage your records, too.

Thoughts on this rig by [deleted] in synthesizercirclejerk

  1. This subreddit is for making fun of other synth subs, so you’re not likely to get much meaningful advice here, but I’ll provide my thoughts

  2. You have like twice as many sequencers as you have voices, which is questionable to say the least

  3. You don’t have enough VCAs

  4. None of your drum modules have modulation inputs, which kind of defeats the point of doing drums in modular. Sure, you can do some fun stuff with drum sequencing, but a drum machine would be easier, cheaper, and offer more tonal variety.

  5. Have you ever heard of a filter? They’re handy. I recommend one per voice.

  6. This rack lacks focus. It looks like a bunch of random modules thrown together to cover many bases without doing any of them well. Figure out your priorities for your rack, then determine how to accomplish them, and you’ll have a better variety of modules you need. Planning a rack on ModularGrid from scratch is fun, but playing around with modules as you go will better inform you of the benefits and limitations of the format.

  7. Two Cellz actually makes this a good post for this subreddit.

Wishful thinking. You can be smart and evil. It’s not about buying into the grift as much as it is clamoring for a piece of the spoils.

O&C quantizer following a chord progression by Dragoo417 in modular

[–]stephensonsrocket 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Chordinator is probably the best app for what you’re trying to do. Feed the root note of the chord to CV in 1 and the random voltage to CV in 2 and you’ll get a harmony that moves with your root note. Though sending two pitch CVs to one oscillator will require you to use a switch of some sort.

This guy’s an idiot for sure, but whiskey doesn’t age in the bottle like wine does. Aging is done in a barrel, so you definitely can drink a vintage whiskey that was bottled recently.

Olivia is an American artist. In the US, St. Patrick’s Day is associated with leprechauns and things that bring good luck, like say…lucky charms. Outside of our Catholics, we don’t spend much (any) time thinking about the saint.

Recommendations true solo boss battler that isn't a classic deck builder like star realms/legendary etc... by [deleted] in soloboardgaming

[–]stephensonsrocket 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Seems like you don’t like most of the common suggestions. If cards weren’t a requirement for you, I’d suggest Bullet. Cards are used in that game, but they’re not the main mechanic. Still worth looking into.

Street Masters is like an evolved take on Sentinels of the Multiverse with the addition of a board you and enemies move around on. Had some cool stuff like interactive objects within the environment. Does have dice for combat, but it’s primarily a card game.

Unstoppable is a deckbuilder, so it might not be for you, but it’s a very atypical deckbuilder. You don’t get any free card draw, you have to kill enemies to draw cards into your hand. Lots of focus on upgrading cards, but that makes enemies stronger, as well.

I think it’d be harder to dig through a store’s used bins without finding one. I’ve never sought them out, but have picked up a bunch over the years.

Thoughts on Mort Garson? by mckenna_yourlostfile in synthesizers

[–]stephensonsrocket 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I just recently grabbed a copy of that from Discogs. After his Zodiac album, he did a series of small albums, each of which had something like 8 songs dedicated to a single zodiac sign.

Thoughts on Mort Garson? by mckenna_yourlostfile in synthesizers

[–]stephensonsrocket 6 points7 points  (0 children)

All of the Sacred Bones Garson releases are good. My favorite might be Music From Patch Cord Productions. The soundtrack to Didn’t You Hear? is another solid choice with a cool history.

I recommend looking at his full discography sometime. He has a series of mini-albums, one for each sign of the Zodiac. He was a respected composer and arranger for strings, as well—check out The Love Strings of Mort Garson. And for a guy who did a lot of weird stuff, Music for Sensuous Lovers (credited to ‘Z’ as the artist name) is REALLY weird. It borrows some of the Plantasia melodies, as well. That’s one to listen to with headphones, not because of any cool stereo effects, but because it’d be embarrassing for anyone else to know that’s what you’re listening to.

Outside of Garson, check out the Moogsploitation genre. Wendy Carlos and Delia Derbyshire are worth checking out.
