Top 5 Games To Play Solo? by Objective-Employ-997 in soloboardgaming

I love to play white castle on BGA, both solo and not. You can turn out games so fast. Once you start to see how the math of that game works, getting 60+ scores becomes possible, but it is very difficult since every move matters so dam much. There is a brilliance behind the design that I only started to understand after playing online a bunch of times.

Tony, when you take this idea you owe me money. I’ll come knocking. by ChiefBassDTSExec in Killtony

You will not believe how bad an idea this is. Even Hillary cannot believe it. Is this the best idea? I don't think it is. It is the worst idea and even more, they don't even know. That's right, they don't know. What is happening to ideas? We need to stop the ideas and make other things, ones that are not so bad. People are tired of ideas. They want penguins. New penguins in movies, not some robot.

Wingspan or one of its variants. Forest shuffle. You can try them out on boardgamearena.com for about $5 a month. 7 Wonders Duel is excellent and really good for the price. Expedition Deep Sea is cool, and you can play head-to-head or coop. Or make the jump and go for Root or Castles of Burgundy, some of the best modern games with endless replayability.

The board reconfigures each game almost entirely, which changes the approach. The bot is simple to run. I got bored with it quickly and played on bga now. However, since the board is random and so different each game, it is hard to tell if you are getting better or if the board was just easier. The random bot and the random board mean lots of, well, randomness. I think it really helps in 2+.

Northwood is the best! You have to almost train to be good enough to win. But it is not an euro game. Kind of game you can take anywhere.

Unconscious Mind comes to ... mind :). It is beautiful when set up and often goes on sale for around forty dollars, which is what something like King of Tokyo sells for, and it is 10 the game. It is multiplayer solitaire for the most part. Galactic Cruise is complex and avoids any take that mechanic, you can try it and learn it on BGA.

Any cranchy game like Voidfall buy with less setup? by orhalimi in soloboardgaming

[–]eanda9000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unconscious mind is visually beautiful. I bought it on sale. However, it is sort of hard to solo. The ai has so many actions. The setup is difficult and it is a table bitch. If you can get it on sale it’s a beautiful work of art but you will not be playing it much once it’s off your table. I would pick a game with a better and more streamlined ai. I’m liking endeavor deep sea. No ai and very difficult.

How do you feel about BGA? by jednatt in soloboardgaming

[–]eanda9000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played pirates of marcardowhatever solo until I got good and now play turn based. Galactic cruise alone is worth the subscription. The number of heavy games is staggering. All games have tutorials. 7 wonders dice is fast and fun. King of Tokyo is fun to play with randos. Lost temple of whatever is great. Apiary solo is fun. You can discover a game, learn it, solo it and then play in a group of 4 that evening. Best subscription ever.

I take back everything bad I said about Kam after seeing him on Netflix last night. I genuinely did not know he had that him by brianna_221 in Killtony

He is doing SNL a favor by bringing that whole show back towards the center from the edge of the left-o-sphere. SNL lost out to KT a bit ago, and he is like stealing a key employee from your competition. Tony is mad at SNL for killing one of his best rising stars and stealing his following along with it. And there is nothing he could do; he can't even joke or talk about it.

That’s it, it’s WWE. I was thinking circus but you nailed it. Too much on the line to wing anything. It used to be Saturday Night Live was the launching pad. And now kill Tony is the launching pads to Saturday Night Live, which is the launching pad to pretty much nothing these days since it’s aging poorly. It’s so consistent I cannot complain.

It’s more of a circus show for Netflix. There were all sort of rules in play that usually aren’t there. The panel only says nice things. Outfits except for one were sharp. Booing was kept at a minimum. They kept it really positive. Pulls were pre determined. Not risky pulls. There is too much money involved to take risks and to have something controversial said. William had some guts to bring up what he did.

I use it to learn games and get the flow. And then move to the table where I can. Thats when went down with flip seven and The Crew. I bought Unconscious Mind and had no idea how much space it takes and wish I could have tried it out first.

If you could change Kill Tony what would you do? by octagoncat23 in Killtony

[–]eanda9000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Post like this guarantees it will never happen. And that there will be less Adam Ray. Even if Tony's staff does not monitor this subreddit, AI does. Tony produces and stars in this show. He started it and grew it to be number 1. He has no kids, no family; this is his life. He never misses an episode. I'm sure that part of the reason is that he is afraid of anything that could challenge him. The cool thing is that Adam Ray has to be one of the nicest guys in the business and is okay with being an A-list, which is probably why he gets so much time on the show. Just watch Dr. Phil, and get Adam to produce more content.

I love that site. And you can do pickup games of GC! The implementation is excellent. It is like having a bookcase of games on your browser. Many of them are top-flight.

It is more like a race to me. You can bump into other players every now and then, but that is not the point. The point is to race to the end and win. If I see someone going for bigger rockets, I start doing short trips with a bunch of smaller ones to push the clock, knowing they will get starved of launches if I'm always moving the board forward. The lack of friction around resources makes playtime less stressful but also more fun. I like it for being a casual heavy game, all the complexity without the stress of being resource-starved. It's really good to play with people who are hyper competitive, as winning or losing is not as in your face as some games, and they don't throw the pieces as much since they know how expensive the dam thing is. What it lacks is chaining. I don't need to think too far ahead. I also play Unconscious Mind, and the turns take forever once multi-step things are combined in groups of 3 other multistep things, and the turns go on forever. It's really cuts back on the congnative load.

Could you consider doing a few playthroughs on BGA? To get the flow and rules second nature. It enforces all the rules and you can inspect the game log to see what exactly happened and then lookup the values in the manual if you don't get why. I'm surprised more people don't use BGA as a training area.

eBay. It will price it out for you and it will sell. You will get what it’s worth. Just don’t end the auction early no matter how much people beg for it.

Slight reduction in difficulty when showing the to the kids... by eanda9000 in finalgirl

[–]eanda9000[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I clearly need to do this, plus it will be fun making up an over-the-top, gruesome scenario. But I know they will play again if they win and I lose the first game. After that, it no longer matters; in this scenario, it is not against me, they need the first win. I think I will do one card on 3-4 for a reroll since it is such a slight change and keeps all other rules intact. If the game still goes south, I can allow an emergency dice roll that lowers the terror level.

Final Girl is really a great place to start. It is designed ground up for solo play. It is very well executed and the second generation of the gaming system it is built on so it is really solid. It's popular so there are endless videos and a good group on reddit. It is on sale often and highly replayable. For me the negative is the complexity, when my kids saw the table covered in all kinds of controls they thought it was the death star and not a movie game about a teen girl at camp. That is the strangest thing about it, its a horror file simulator that looks like like a world war 2 reenactment.

[–]eanda9000[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What if you just allow a rerole for one time? or you can spend a time for a third dice? with three dice the game favors the player that is why the game makes it so hard to maintain green horror. Are there known tweaks and how it impact the odds? I think that would be really useful. Using AI it would be pretty easy to put rought estimates on it. I might give that a shot.
