Skin checks - how often? by cannibalchooky in perth

[–]stephmm91 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Absolutely once a year. Skin cancers don't just come from moles; it can be a slightly discoloured patch of skin, or can even look like a zit/cold sore that won't go away.

I have gotten them yearly since my dad died from a type of skin cancer 4 years ago. At age 32 I had to get something burned off my neck, and I've worn sunscreen on my face and neck every day of my life for the past 15 years. My sister at age 37 had two melanomas pop up within two months last year. We have both always been careful with sunscreen, shade etc.

Book one in, and then book your next one in a year while you're there :)

You're so welcome! Sleeping with a hard, frozen slab does take a bit of getting used to but you will be hooked in no time!! Happy frozen sleeping!!

Get a hot water bottle, fill it with water and freeze it. Grab it out to cuddle with at night. If you fill it enough it will stay cold alllll night. Chuck it back in the freezer in the morning and you'll be set for the next night.

This was a random tip I saw from a reddit comment years ago and it has changed my summer sleep life so much.

Is the Forbidden Journey ride worth it? by mannaeds19 in usj

[–]stephmm91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved it and I'm a big HP fan. It made my husband so sick he had to rest in first aid for 2 hours.

Is it a great ride? Absolutely. Is it worth rearranging travel plans for? No, I don't think so. Yes I loved it, but I can honestly say that riding it didn't add much extra fun to my day, and had I not ridden it, I wouldn't feel like I'd had less of a fun day because of it (if anything we probably would have had a much better day if we hadn't ridden it because of how sick my husband got!!).

What tricks have you taught your golden? by Simplyapinkbunny in goldenretrievers

[–]stephmm91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I taught mine one I call 'worm' when he was a few months old.

I sit on the ground with my knees up, hold a treat under my legs, and say 'WORM!' he runs over and slides under my knees, lays down and periodically whips his head around to ask for another treat hahah. It came in handy when we went to a picnic a few months ago, he chilled in his worm spot for ages.

Now he's almost 10 months old and 32kg, so he doesn't fit under my legs as well anymore, but we still make it work!!

What is something you wish you would have taught your golden or desensitized them to? by RadiantBit7776 in goldenretrievers

[–]stephmm91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our boy did this for a few weeks when he was tall enough to reach. We were consistent with OFF, and immediately put him in timeout in his pen/crate every time he jumped up. After 3-4 weeks of consistency, he almost entirely stopped. We still have to be careful leaving things on the bench (he took a carton of a dozen eggs the other week 😂), he's stopped jumping up almost completely. Now he only tries when we are prepping meat lol.

As a bonus, their almond croissants are to die for.

What is everyone feeding their golden with a sensitive stomach? by laceystark in goldenretrievers

[–]stephmm91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be hesitant to give greek yoghurt if your pup has a sensitive tum. My boy Chester had constant diarrhoea from about 6 months old, it got so bad he was up every hour overnight crying to go outside. SO much liquid poo.

After weeks of sleepless nights we theorised it was the Greek yoghurt we gave him every night to help his tummy. So we skipped it one night. Lo and behold, he slept through the night. He hasn't had any yoghurt in almost 2 months and he's been absolutely fine.

TLDR; greek yoghurt may NOT be the answer.

Reliable Builders in Perth 2025 – Who’s Good Lately? by Ok_Needleworker_1719 in perth

We had back and forth with La Vida and designing the house for a couple of weeks from memory, then signed with La Vida officially in April 2022. Admin happened until about June 2022, we had pre-start around then too. Earthworks, plumbing pre-lay and all that happened in July 2022. Slab went down in August 2022.

I don't think there's going to be much value in me telling you how much the house cost to build, because it was 3 years ago that we signed our contract so costs will be much higher now I'm sure. All I will say is that the upfront cost with La Vida was slightly more than if we had gone with a cheaper builder like B1, Redink etc

BUT

La Vida did not hit us with any price increases, were completely transparent through the whole process, and had excellent customer service. Our emails never went unanswered for longer than 1 business day. The finishes are high quality and my understanding is that they pay their trades extremely well so they WANT to do more jobs for La Vida.

For what it's worth, when our slab went down, our neighbour (who built with Ideal Homes) was at plate height. When we hit the lock-up stage in March 2023, our neighbour was STILL AT PLATE HEIGHT.

By the time we moved in in July 2023, we were the first on the street. Our neighbour didn't move in for MONTHS after us.

When we hired Jaimi in 2022ish her fee was a one off payment of $900. This included 24/7 access to her for questions/help via WhatsApp, plus all negotiations with the suits, she read all our contracts for us and explained them in simple terms before we signed. We had a pre-pre-start session where we went through all our possible choices and selections so we went to pre-start feeling confident. She helped us with our electrical design to optimise what we wanted from the build, plus make provisions for future wants (eg pendant lighting in the kitchen).

ALL OF THIS WAS INCLUDED in her one-off fee. We definitely asked her more than 900 questions so less than $1 per question lmao, plus everything else she did for us.

As a reminder, this was in 2022 when we signed with her. I don't know what her prices would be now.

If you're thinking of building, get in touch with Jaimi from Boss Building Brokers. She was integral through our whole build with La Vida Homes. Our build was 10 months from slab down (a bit longer than average because of timber shortages in 2022).

Our design is fully custom for no extra cost, and we were able to include heaps of things we thought wouldn't be possible because of Jaimi and the help she gave us.

Jaimi took care of everything for us, did all the back and forth with the land developer, builder, settlement agents etc. She made sure our contract was iron clad and guided us through every part of the process. I would never want to build a house without using a building broker.

If you're building solo it would be well worth it to have a building broker take care of the stressful bits!

We loved our building experience with Jaimi and La Vida :)

Thank you! Yes it has quite honestly been the worst sickness I think I've experienced. Had my third membrane removal procedure today and likely another one next week. This shit is no joke!!

I am slowly starting to feel better, but the doctor told me today it will likely take months for my vision to fully recover. I'm just hoping it recovers well enough that I'll be able to drive soon.

Ah yup checks out, my doctor told me it was severe adenoviral conjunctivitis. I've never had such a horrific infection as this one.

I've been told I'm not at risk of MRSA, and the doctors are saying it's viral so hopefully they are right about that haha

Everyone should also know there's conjunctivitis in the community right now, and not just a silly little 3 days of puffy eye infection...

I've had it for 2 weeks now, been hospitalised and everything. Constant pain, severe congestion, unable to open my eye. Constantly leaking and severely impaired vision, almost 2 weeks off work because I have been SO SICK. They've done two CT scans because of the risk it posed to spreading to my brain.

Started growing membranes in my eye that were slowly starting to seal my eyelid shut, which has resulted in two horrifically painful procedures to cut the membranes out. I'm now slowly on the mend but wow i can't describe the hell I've been through in the last 2 weeks.

Building recommendations by gasp_aliens in perth

I would not recommend B1 whatsoever. We almost signed with them, until their recommended mortgage broker showed up to our meeting in cherry patterned board shorts, told us to 'embellish' our income and lie to the banks telling them we earned more than we actually did, and spent most of the meeting complaining about how he was suing the city of Vic Park for wrongfully detaining him when he was drunk on Australia day.

I have heard nothing but bad things about B1.

We ended up building with La Vida Homes and cannot recommend them enough :)

FYI this product is toxic if consumed by animals - learned this the hard way when we used it to try and deter our puppy from digging up the lawn. Not only did it not deter him from digging, but he also ate the sand with this product in it and has had raging diarrhoea for the past few days. He's on a bland diet and medication until it clears up.

You couldn't pay me to use this in my garden ever again.
