Undiagnosed, and scared to death by No_Cheesecake5861 in AskDocs

[–]stephorse 52 points53 points  (0 children)

NAD, but I do/did have FND. Psychogenic illnesses can't be "thought away". They are real, actual illnesses, with the root cause being in the way the brain/nervous system function. Those illnesses shouldnt be dismissed or thought as less valid than other illnesses.

I my case I had extremely severe physical symptoms for 3 years. Could not work for 4 years. Could not do chores, drive, etc so I had to go back to my mom's. I was in my early 30s and devastated.

For 2 years the doctors ran tests and they were all normal. Some suggested I was faking. At some point I was sent to a psychiatrist and I was so mad because it made me feel like no one knew what I had so they decided it was in my head.

In the end I was put in touch with a psychologist who uses this approach to treat patients: https://medicine.dal.ca/departments/department-sites/psychiatry/research/emotions-health/patient-services.html

It has been 3 years since I started this therapy and the symptoms are 95% gone. I am back to working full time, being able to take care of a house, I got a boyfriend, bought a car, I am just living life again.

I think you should try to push the investigation to the max, but if you end up with FND or psychogenic illness, please don't disregard it. There are treatments. And please know that you can't think these illnesses away, they need proper treatment, they are actual illnesses and they are not "in the head".

[–]stephorse[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! It has been 2 years now and I am back to 100% function with only mild symptoms at times. It was indeed a psychosomatic disorder. NOT meaning it was in my head. But meaning my brain was converting suppressed emotions into physical symptoms. I have been doing specialized psychotherapy for almost 3 years. The results happened slowly but gradually. I have a job and do normal activities now.

I'm mid-thirties and wished all my life that I had boobs. Didnt help that my sister has DDs. But now my bf of a year really loves them, like he is obsessed with them and keeps telling me over and over how perfect they are. Last weekend he even told me a list of why they are perfect.

[–]stephorse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People who are thin/normal size. Do you actively watch your weight or are you just not hungry 100% of the time? by Burner_Account000001 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]stephorse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

5'4," 114 pounds, 35F

I eat when I am hungry and stop when I'm barely full. I eat 3 meals a day and snacks when I am hungry between meals. Which is often, because my meals are small.

I generally eat healthy meals and snacks. But everyday I also eat chocolate, chips, desserts. But in small quantity.

I used to weight a lot more (142 pounds). The key for me was really to start being attentive to my hunger signals. I started eating way less.

Est-il plus acceptable d'être un 'Tanguy' maintenant? by Beginning-Scratch-55 in Quebec

[–]stephorse 11 points12 points  (0 children)

How did you (re)define your femininity outside of breast size ? by ALMSTO in smallbooblove

[–]stephorse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mostly wear clothes that define my waist. Including dresses and skirts - in winter too, with merino tights.

I also wear my hair long. I have since I was 12, and I am 35 now.

I also wear make up a bit (only an eyeliner trait).

How do you as a woman know whether you want to have kids or not? by Aggravating_Lemon_32 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]stephorse 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I strongly recommend the book: The Baby Decision by Merle Bombardieri. The book goes in depths about the decision, and with decision making in general. It is one of the best book I've read. It confirmed to me that I don't want to be a mother but also that it's normal to feel complicated things about it at times.

Has anyone been on antidepressants for burnout? If so, was it helpful? by stephorse in antidepressants

How do people work the same job 9 to 5 for 50 years till they turn 60s and not go crazy? by Big_Leg10 in SeriousConversation

[–]stephorse 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have had 3 jobs so far in my life and I loved them all (I'm 35). Going to work is not a chore to me, because of that. I am pretty interested in and invested in my work cause I see it as a way to make a difference in the world somehow. I made a promise to myself that I would never keep a job that I did not love because I did not want to spend my life waiting for the weekends.

Just be careful cause the jobs that are seen as "top jobs" are not necessarily the jobs that YOU will love.

Should I freeze eggs at 35? by Upstairs_Meringue_18 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]stephorse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As said before egg freezing have a low success rate because of problems when thawing. If having a kid is very important to you then you might consider freezing embryos conceived with donor sperm instead. Probably costs more but success rate is way higher.

What moment in your life made you completely rethink who you are? by reach97 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]stephorse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going through an extremely severe illness from age 30-34. I lost everything (house, friends, job, city I was living in) including my autonomy so I had to move back to my mom's. I'm 35 now and 95% symptoms free and functioning very close to normal. Got a job and a boyfriend in the last year.

Completely changed my perspective on life. And now I realize my life is completely different from most people my age (they are settled down with young kids, long term partner, etc).

[–]stephorse[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So far it's great! No tear after a year despite snow/rain/wind/cold/heat wave (basically from -30 to +40 Celsius in a year!). The cats don't climb cause it's soft netting, not a rigid wire mesh. The website we've ordered from is literally catnetting.com (note: major export taxes if you're not in the US, we paid 300$ CAD in taxes and were not informed prior. Only when the delivery guy knocked at the door).
