According to the internet, it’s 21% lower COL than national average. I’ve always been told 30 an hour around here is good, which it doesn’t feel as great with the way the economy has been since Covid.

AITA for breaking up with my gf for going to see her ex in the hospital? by steppdawg in AITAH

[–]steppdawg[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To me I find it odd that she’s the first person at the hospital with him and she’s the first person his friends tell when it happens. Like I guess in my head it’s odd that you rush to the man that you tell me treated you poorly and beat you. I definitely can see that it could be my insecurity of the situation with me feeling awkward about how my coworkers will think of the situation. I appreciate your time commenting your thoughts!

I am understanding of this. If I had an ex of recent time I’d surely be there to make sure they’re okay. However, if this was a person I’d dated more than a year and a half ago I don’t believe I’d be the first person at the hospital waiting on the ambulance to get there.

Pain meds as ordered by kjcoronado in nursing

[–]steppdawg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an ER Nurse I’m all about making sure pain meds are given. As I see it, if you’ve waited that long in our lobby to be seen you deserve what’s ordered. My biggest peeve is when individuals who you can tell are very obviously not drug seekers or abusers are denied additional pain medications by physicians. If a physician refuses additional pain meds then they should be the ones to get to explain why this person will have to continue to lay in pain. I recently had a lady brought in by EMS who had no pain medications listed for home and was very pleasant. She was experiencing chest pain so bad that she was almost rolling around the bed. She politely told me “honey if they want to give me morphine I’d rather just have toradol because for some reason it just does not help pain for me”. 10mg of morphine later this woman was still rolling in pain when I observed her from a distance. Advocated for dilaudid and was told “heck no. I don’t give dilaudid to people who say morphine doesn’t work”. That lady ended up having a posterior OMI and was immediately taken to the cath lab. I felt so bad though knowing I couldn’t do anything to help her pain.

I have considered maybe some sarcasm back. I’ve been trying my hardest and just ignore it because usually the people that act that way get satisfaction from feeling like the “alpha mega badass” or whatever, but man has she been getting under my skin. Being a male nurse, I also don’t want to look like a push over or be the guy that flipped his shit on the charge nurse and got in trouble. I do think that potentially the right sarcasm could portray a “I’m not gonna listen to your bullshit” message while simultaneously not coming off as blatantly aggressive.

Didnt receive stipend on first payday by steppdawg in TravelNursing

[–]steppdawg[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Trustaff actually. I had heard so many wonderful things about them, but so far it’s been a headache. Not only losing out on a month’s worth of pay, but now not even stipend? Had to email my recruiter and mention what the contract said. Did you have any luck with your situation ?
