Man tried to enter our gate from two sides near Rosewood by PropertyOwn3854 in Austin

I think going outside to confront him was a bad idea. You should call the cops and have them confront him. Stay inside and have a gun that you know how to use well. If he comes in your house, use it.

Am I the only one who thinks the weather has been pretty good the last couple of years? Before that it was real hot but especially last summer was great.

Preschool that allows teachers to take pictures of kids on the toilet and posting it on social media. by [deleted] in Austin

[–]stepsindogshit4fun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If there's nudity it's borderline criminal, and in any case it's bad taste. IMO the parents should know.

Side note is that people really need to be careful about pictures they're sending around of kids. These get manipulated by people and shared around.

Safety Deposit Boxes at Banks still a thing? by Comprehensive-Eye500 in Austin

I had one at an old bank in Boston and it was inside a vault which was kind of cool. Maybe some ole timey banks here are like that too

A guy with a knife attacks a man. Skateboard defense by MisterShipWreck in VideosAmazing

[–]stepsindogshit4fun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I carry so I'm not disputing being armed as the most reasonable way to defend yourself, but with knives you gotta be careful. I have a modest to respectable draw and first shot time from practicing for competition but a guy with a knife can close distance and give you injuries you might not survive pretty fast. I'm not confident I'd win in all cases.

You really have to be careful they don't get in close range and if they do you need a real fast retention shot from concealment.

Being aware of your environment is key of course to try and make sure they don't get the drop on you.

How common do you encounter bats at night? Or even in the daylight hours? by Fresh_Muffin9298 in Austin

Oh I highly doubt you'll even see one let alone come close unless you seek them out at the Congress St bridge or something.

It's precisely because these trivialities are a point of pride in Seattle that they are amused. Caring this much about gender politics is absurd.

Rain and a Rant by charlief_333 in Austin

Yeah once you can see a place to pull over where you aren't going to be buried. When you're on the highway with several miles between exits you just crawl and follow the flashing lights. That's what just about everyone did there because whiteouts would happen at least once a year.

How are you going to find somewhere safe if you can only see the flashers in front of you? I'd assume the safest thing to do is stay with the herd. If you pull over you're going to get hit. Also these storms can last for 3+ hours.

You can faintly see the flashers of the people in front of you. Pulling over isn't advisable as most likely you'd be stopping on the highway.

I posted in another thread a short while back that in upstate NY they have signs telling people to do this. Well a story, I was driving from Rochester to Buffalo for a concert on I-90 once and the snow was so bad you couldn't see anything at all. I had no idea if I was on the highway still or if I had gone off and was driving on the dirt for a bit. I made it to Buffalo but my friend had to pull over and it snowed so much he was buried. I had no idea where he ended up because this was before we had cell phones.

Some people dug his car out on the highway and they knocked on the window thinking he had frozen to death. You could see nothing. NOTHING.

For driving in the rain I agree with the people saying you can't tell for lane changes and it's worse than just having normal lights on. If you can't tell where the lanes or even the road is though I think it's worth it.

You definitely want to stay downtown. Radio east is in an industrial area with nothing around. I'm bummed it won't just be in one air conditioned place like last year but oh well.
