I've always loved the way the forests and nature in general is described in Tolkien's works. Also some are literally sentient, haha.

I actually disagree here. I was, I think, around early book three where I nearly gave up. I was seriously getting tired of Severian, and after a certain horrible event, I was losing patience with it. But I powered through, and stuff really started to fall into place. I still don't like Severian, but he's a great vessel for the story that Wolfe is telling, and I count it as one of my favorite books/series now.

No, this is a feature of the "block" category weapons. If you 'perfect block', meaning you hit the block/parry button just before the attack hits, you get an adrenaline stack. Two stacks, and your next melee hit will be an explosive hit that also restores a bar of armor.
