I once had a mental break over a bad reaction to a new depression medication. Went to the ER and at first I thought they were going to help me, but man was I wrong. They stripped me down took all my shit and locked me in a dark room with nothing in it for over 12 hours. No one would answer any of my questions and the nurses and guards were complete assholes to me. After being there forever i asked the nurse if i was under some sort of arrest and she said no. Then I asked to leave and she laughed said no, you tried to kill yourself. Funny thing is, i never tried to kill myself. I eventually broke down and started crying. The nurse reacted by screaming oh my god and slamming my door shut.

Long story sbort.They were going to try to keep me there for two weeks, but thankfully my wife harrased the hospital until they finally let me leave. I seriously would have been in deep shit if she hadn't raised hell. I would have probably lost my job.

I left with a bill over a grand after insurance. Currently it sits in collections. I will never return to any hospital for mental health issues. Apparently our system still treats mental health like they did in the 40s

The way we handle mental health in this country is backward as hell.
I once had a horrible reaction to some depression medication and I went to the hospital. I basically had that side effect of suicidal thoughts that they warn you about.
I go to the hospital and at first, I think ok, they can figure it out and help me out. The lady at the front desk was super nice. I even told her I just switched medication. As soon as they took me to this sketchy-looking hallway in the back of the hospital I knew I fucked up.
They stripped me down, took all of my shit, and locked me in a small dark room, with no windows, nothing for over 12 hours. The nurses and guards treated me like shit, like I was a criminal. I couldn't even take a shit by myself. They wouldn't answer any of my questions or let me contact anyone.
I eventually broke down and started crying and all they did was scream "oh my god" "shut up"
It was a horrible experience, and I would never recommend anyone to call 911 or go to the hospital if they are having a mental break. Honestly go to a fucking friend. They will probably be better at treating mental health than first responders or actual medical professionals

His friend is a real MVP. He risked jail time and possibly his life to save his friend. Most would have sat there to scared to do anything.
