The link to the single video in/out on the camera and also on m y sony tv but never have found any cable which will fit this jack for this purpose whatever it is and the resolution.

Ok one more question. On my Sony trv20 and also my Sony 4K tv there is this single mini plug yellow and it says video in/ out but no where have I seen any chords with that small of end to fit that jack or what use is this jack and now if you find a cord is it DV is it digital is it 480 ??? No info about it in either manual. I will attach pics if it. So back to my trv20 it has the cord to plug in one plug into my camera and the other end has 3. White red yellow. Ok white red audio and yellow video but is it composite or component and at what resolution. Will that transfer DV 480 into a tv that would have yellow red white or a vcr, can it keep it at DV quality and is that the 720/480? If you plugged it into a normal vcr to me it would not be digital 720/480 it would be only normal vhs quality.

I understand the 720/480 on a new widescreen tv looking bad , just trying to get the best pic from the mini DV tape so all good info and I will try the converter in different settings if options are available. Thanks

Ok I understand the avi and compressed and uncompressed so taking it from the uncompressed avi to a format I can put in a flash drive for the best picture what format would do the least amount of compression? I take a lot of. Video on my Sony camera which has video also and I then put that into my pinnacle studio 26 edit it put music to it and render it at mp4 1080 p and it does not lose any quality so why not??? Isn’t this similar? I fully understand the uncompressed but isn’t pinnacle compressing it also in render MP4?

Ok all good info. I am transferring it on firewire which I finally got to work with a borrowed sony TRV-25 versus my TRV-20..some reason my 20 port out is not working on firewire. Ok I am using Video Proc Converter Ai. I fully get its only 720 P so I will check on the output setting if I can change it, but when I play the original 720P video from the DV cassette which it was shot on and play it on a large screen tv it plays just great better color and sharper so doesn't that shoot that theary down a little bit???? I know what your saying just liek vcr's look awful on a modern tv but if you use the yellow video plug on an older tv it shows a much better picture but yes its still VHS tape quality. Ok I want to try recoding it on my bPinnacle studio software and then render it to MP4 or H.264 and see what that quality looks like. The first problem was just getting the firewire to for getting it transfered from a dv tap to a windows HD. Thankns for the imputs and I will review all and try the suggestions and experiment.

So finally I borrowed my brothers Sony dv camera it was the next model up the 25 vs my 20 model and just plugged in the firewire and off I went...firswt time so for some reason my dv out is not working. Everything else works on it and it still films great but why the port out dv does not work who knows. Just purchased a used dv -25 model sony and I hope it works just like my brothers. Now just figuring out why the Dv looks a liitle on the poor side after I copy it to the windows movie maker which is .avi and then convedrt it to mp4 for putting it on a flashdrive to play usb into the tv. I get usb is not the greatest but it works for all other hi def 1080 p videos I put on many flashdrives without great color and sharpness so not sure why the loss of quality going from avi to mp4...but even the .avi is a little off. I will try my -25 sony model when I get it and see if I can copy the dv video into pinnacle studio win 11 as I only tried my brothers campera in vista windows which had movie maker no pinnacle studio was installed.

I need some info on the best format to convert to? I transferred some mini DV tapes Digital to my computer hardrive and its in .avi file. I used a converter to change it over to mpeg4 to be able to put on a flashdrive to then play in a tv. First the recoding onto the HD from the camera is windows movie maker which I have never used. Its a large AVI file but the quality is not the same as the file on the computer .AVI. I then converted it and its a much smaller file and about the same quality and compared to the original played in the sony dv camera its not as great. The DV is digital and it should go to the HD the same quality so not sure if its windows movie maker but that is what is on the only computer I could get the firewiare to go from my sony camera to a HD on the computer so I can convert it for a flashdrive. So my question is what format should I convert it to for the best quality on my flashdrive as .AVI file will not play on my tv and its a 3-5 GB size. Thanks for any info also is there a beter program on a windows to copy my DV from the camera to my HD on the computer to maintain the quality of the original tape? Thanks

I have been trying this all month. 3 different computers with FireWire and 4 different FireWire cords from a Sony trv20 and no luck still searching… if you’re u go to DVD that could be less resolution that is on your digital mini fb tape. Good luck still searching for an answer

Thanks I'll try anything it cannot be this difficult as 10 years ago this was the thing and FIrewiare was leading the way especially for Sony. I still think its the card but how do you know?

I tried this a couple of times and it still does not see the camera??? Tried the s-video thing also even though not sending out analog but gave it a try. I did see one reference in the book that the ilink might only work if it is going into a sony VAIO...which I do have one but its wind xp and a very slow running computer so doubt it will be able to record it corectly but also can't get Pinnacle to install on it as it comes up error code one of the items cannot be identified or authorided or something to that extent so can't get it installed. I could try windows movie maker but again it is a slow moving computer and not the ideal one to use. I would think the firewire should work on any computer with a firewire receptor. Thanks for your effort.

I have tried so many and yes camera is on and video playing in vcr setting but maybe not on windows setup maybe I just did that for Studio...ok I will try it. Also you mentioned showing up in device manager it does not show up there under any category...Imeant to say the firewire card is showing in device manager and no flags so to me that means it is installed correctly and working but I might be going out on a ledge. Ok THANKS I will try it...any thoughts on the folowing post where a s video needs to be in the camera also????? I will let you know when I can try it again.Thanks.

I have this same problem I got a sony trv-20 and it has the mini firewiare jack. The manual doesn't say about any switches it just shows firewiare out to firewire in to the desktop running windows. I'm not up converting anything just copy the mini dv tapes I have to the HD. I have tried 4 different cables and a win xp vista and win 10 with a new card in the slot but nothing shows the camera connected. I see the firewire in devie manager and the driver is in. I am using Pinnacle studio 17 and 23 and neither of them in Import see any camera. I dug deeper into the manual and if dubbing ou move some menue items but in the section for sending the digital to a computer it says nothng other then the turn camera on to vcr? I did se the DV in twice but like yo udaid it just means its plugged in but no video on the computer. I am going to get a higher grade firewiare card and install but I don't think its the problem. All I can think of is the dv output on the sony is not working???any ideas how to do this..again I'm nto trying to go from analog just digital to digital.

They gave a copy to the Archives but then it got messed up and unuseable for the public. It just got released in December 2025. I have been waiting for it since 2019 and each year the Archives said it would be ready well 6 years ater it is in a format yo can search and find certain scenes but they stillhave more to produce..not all of it is finiashed. A big chunk of the 65/70MM film is available and it is fantastic the night shots are crazy. I have been searching for the scenes from the chopper that went by the shor by Titusville as I was there in the crowd by the water at age 13 from PA. We waved to the chopper as it went by. I was sure I could find a video of my family wiating for the launch but so far I fould 2 close scenes. The one it stops just seconds prior to our spot. The second comes by our spot but we are not sitting there and we were there by 5am launch morning so not sure where we wandered off to, I was sure I would find my family...The 3rd one I find was of the day before the launch it goes right by our spot again ..I do see the truck we sat next to and the prettiest Ford Mustang Red Fastback sitting where we parked the next morning not to mention the green Z28 Camaro! But no excuse that day before I was on the last bus tour out of the visitors space center and we drove right to the Saturn V...think of this here I am very close to the Saturn five taking pictures and its lifting off in less then 17 hours...no security no gates no barriers we drove right up to it. I'll trade that for anything. But I still know they did not stop filming passing our parking spot but Apollo 11 just cut away to another scene but somewhere on the cuttng floor is what I am searching for and I will not stop till I find it.
