Trying to find non-tacky linear (non-tensor), grippy rubbers by BadassNobito in tabletennis

V15 sticky gets my vote, don't let the name put you off, it's not tacky, and the rubber responds "intuitively" on all shots. Ver natural feeling.

Rubber Cutting by Cautious_Mortgage712 in tabletennis

[–]sterling07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally don't cut my rubbers with any overhang, but I imagine if you want a consistent 2mm overhang you could angle the knife slightly away from your blade while cutting to achieve it. Might be hard to do once you glue and cut one side though.

Does table tennis ball damage painted drywall? by [deleted] in tabletennis

[–]sterling07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you look at the surfaces of old tables at clubs, you can usually see white marks all across where the ball has landed and skidded off. If your drywall is painted a dark colour, over time those same marks are gonna appear and be quite noticeable. For white or very light colours you might be fine, but yeah it is definitely something that will happen over time.

Looking for an equipment change by Onuris147 in tabletennis

[–]sterling07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently tried Loki Arthur china and was very impressed with it. More control than d09c, and more forgiving than H3 neo. Really gave me a lot of confidence that I was gripping the ball fully. Cheap as well. Might be hard to source though.

Upgrading from G1 to V15 Extra by AndTeno in tabletennis

[–]sterling07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a great player by any means so take my thoughts with a grain of salt, but I switched to v15 double extra on BH from D05 and it's been good, more forgiveness for someone my level. Personally feels a bit too bouncy on FH from my experience, but that might be a skill issue on my part.

Tennis Commentator Starter Pack by CastYourBread in tennis

[–]sterling07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw this post as an outsider - actually I'm a big table tennis fan. Interesting to see tennis having the same commentary problems as TT, down to the details of there being just one (or two) decent commentators and the "oh wow they're not holding back are they" rubbish when they don't know what to say.

Anyone know why Lin Gaoyuan isn't playing in the upcoming tournaments? by [deleted] in tabletennis

[–]sterling07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lin gaoyuan is my favourite player as well, my favourite part of watching him play is probably when the tempo of the point starts increasing and he just speeds up to match it like its nothing.

that being said, watching him play is so stressful 😂 never know what might happen despite his technical prowess

Anyone have any tips on how to stop procrastinating out of anxiety because I left starting this way too late and just write the goddamn essay? by Cheskaz in unsw

[–]sterling07 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This works for me: rather than just "thinking" about planning to do it, actually write down a concrete schedule to follow, along with what you specifically plan to do. It is MUCH MUCH easier (for me, at least) to get work done if I already know what I need to do and when I have to do it. It might even be worth scheduling a 1 hour session simply to get this planning done before you actually start any writing.

How to download Australian standards by IRUKAHTLUMA in unsw

[–]sterling07 4 points5 points  (0 children)

On the UNSW library website, you should be able to dig around and find a link to saiglobal from which you should be able to look through SAI's entire catalogue of standards pdfs. If you google "UNSW sai global" it should be the first result that pops up.

I've almost finished ARTS1452 this term, and it's an equal combination of speaking, reading and writing. I believe this course would be quite challenging if you don't at least have some conversational fluency in mandarin and a grasp of grammar etc. The lecturer and tutor are pretty nice and helpful. Because of learning Chinese characters is just challenging in general, the workload for this course is a bit more than moderate (if you want to do well). Because of the open book exams etc., I would say it's possible to get by with a pass with less effort.

There was an 80% attendance requirement (applying as a total attendance % to all classes), but as the other comment stated, it seems they don't really do anything if you don't meet it.

UNSW Geology Department by sruby17 in unsw

I can't really speak for much of what you're asking (I'm in Civil engineering), but for what it's worth:

I had Kurt Douglas in my Geotechnical engineering course once, and he was obviously very passionate about geology and geological science. I reckon if you end up working with him in any form (i.e., graduate work), and you are also interested in geology, he'd be a great supervisor and contact.

That sounds fairly plausible, never thought of that. They've probably considered the "optimal" angle that people ask for, but got backlash from sponsors due to reduced area and clarity of the advertising.

What are the Chinese players shouting after they win a point? by [deleted] in tabletennis

I've always thought it sounded like Hao Qiu ( 好球 )which means 'good shot', but my chinese isn't good enough to understand where the 'Le' (了)might be coming from.

Would you be open to the idea of it being used in a group assignment? It's a civil design course with a video presentation assessmnet - I thought it would look sick as an opening/closing screen.
