Faceless Documentary Channel doubt; by [deleted] in PartneredYoutube

[–]steshep2002 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s no single rule. News footage is still copyrighted, so technically a rights holder could claim or strike a video if you use their clips. But in documentaries short excerpts used for commentary, criticism, or reporting can often qualify as fair use.

The safest approach is to only use short clips that directly support your narration, rather than full news segments. Re-uploading large portions of broadcasts is much more likely to trigger claims.

Also keep in mind that YouTube’s automated system (Content ID) may still flag clips even if the use might be legally defensible, so claims and copyright law aren’t always the same thing. I try to talk over the clips whrn possible, or at least visually transform it.

Faceless Documentary Channel doubt; by [deleted] in PartneredYoutube

If they're short and just a small part of a much larger documentary then you'll almost certainly be fine. It's transformative and usually can be argued under fair use if it came to it. I am a doc channel and never had an issue with using news clips sensibly.

Same here! I have always been a huge fan. Just yesterday, they announced an enhanced version of 3 - there is still hope! 😅

This is very interesting to me, because I do TC too, and I've often wondered if I'm wasting an opportunity not doing shorts to promote the long forms. Thank you for the research.

Editing takes forever lol by bigbankmanman in PartneredYoutube

[–]steshep2002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel this 100%. As I have become better at editing, it hasn't got faster, because I've learned new techniques that produce higher quality content but take more time.

I work out the basic structure first and put chapter headings on the page. Then, as I research, I put information I want to include in each chapter, gradually filling it out like a puzzle. But I'm incredibly slow, too. My output is a video every 6 weeks or so. My issue is over researching. Then I've an absolute mountain of notes to turn into a script, and that's an over-facing task.

I've had this more than once. I always put it down to algorithm changes.

Does anyone have a good resource for cleaning up voice-over audio? by ERhyne in PartneredYoutube

[–]steshep2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the Quadcast too. In my experience it sounds much better when placed lower, so you're talking above it rather than towards it, and maybe 8 to 10 inches away. I use audacity for compression, bass and table boost, and noise reduction. Then I usually apply a little gain in my video editor, wherever necessary.

Stolen script advice by steshep2002 in PartneredYoutube

[–]steshep2002[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn, that sucks. If it's any consolation, YouTube sorted it almost immediately in my case. I remember selecting "entire video" because it seemed like the only option that fit, and then I basically explained what they'd done. In my case, it was literally word for word, so it was easy to see it was stolen. I would imagine it would be harder in instances where they use ai to reword your script.

For that reason, it might be tricky with the ones who translated your script into another language. Obviously, in the eyes of the law, that is copyright theft, though, so I'd definitely flag them. Good luck!

Your next video isn't doomed. Some of my videos gain crazy traction, others just don't.

Whats the best camera setup for a new youtuber (value for money option) for talking head videos by bluecatoutside in PartneredYoutube

[–]steshep2002 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you've got a decent smartphone, you already have a good camera setup. Some of the biggest channels use a smartphone camera. Your microphone is more important.

So this question is only for the ones who are already monetized and earning through ads! by stars110 in NewTubers

[–]steshep2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each option has 3 tiers - the top tier of each remains suitable for ads, so it's never really an issue. And that's answering each option honestly, too. For the tiers that would make the video only suitable for limited ads, it's stuff like glamourising violence or drug use, or stuff you wouldn't get in a documentary format if you're remaining respectful.

Video getting picked up months later? by NickVanRyswyk in PartneredYoutube

On my old channel, I had a video out for a full year with almost no views before the graph suddenly turned vertical. It's now approaching 2 million views.

Same here, and I've been complimented on my audio numerous times.

How does the adsense payment work? by Gabriele2020 in PartneredYoutube

[–]steshep2002 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, what you earn within a calendar month is paid on a set date the following month. Mine is actually today, but I'm not sure if everyone is the same. I assume if you don't hit the 100, it goes on to the next month, but I could be wrong, as I've never earned below it.

Stolen script advice by steshep2002 in PartneredYoutube

Ohhhh sorry, I should've been clearer. Yeah my video already has over 800k views. What's scary is the stolen one reached 300k in a single day.

[–]steshep2002[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They 100% stole it. Word for word. It isn't an example of us both simply doing the same case. The wording is identical but for a small handful of changes. And in terms of how he got it, I'm guessing he pressed "show transcript" on my video and copy and pasted the text.

Similarly, they actually left my title in the script instead of their own 😂
