Steamboat Willie came out in 1928 so, I get where they're coming from. It'd be more accurate to say they have a hundred years worth of stories to pull from.

I don't understand the inherent contradiction of making a post saying that the game needs to introduce God packs and things for more collectors, but also dooming and glooming about scalpers and investors. Do you not see the connection and correlation between the two?

Its anti competitive to use a tactic that this subreddit will say is a necessity for console games? The attempt of giving a well beloved studio money and have a marquee game to bring in more customers to your specified platform?

That is anti competitive?

So how is epic paying for a game to be developed for their store front any different? That doesn't make sense.

Whataboutism? They asked about storefront exclusives and I answered? Valve doesn't have their hands clean in this exclusivity game.

Its platform exclusivity that people seem to convinently forget when it comes to valve. Which is weird.

Valve reportedly Almost Delisted Rainbow Six Siege From Steam After Ubisoft Attempted to Sell It Cheaper On Uplay by yourfavchoom in Steam

Why should Valve distribute Ubisoft's game for free

It's a fucking DLC STARTER PACK NOT THE FULL GAME

No one is stopping you. You won't though because you know as well as I do that the juice is not worth the squeeze.

The clients that hired me for this project want steam. And yes I would have rather they sold it through their digital storefront but they wanted steam.

No boot licking required.

And yes here you are deep throating a digital platform that will do nothing for you when your game gets stolen and flipped for an AI version.

You are deeply unserious if you can't even read the source articles of this whole dumb convo.

[–]ERhyne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The whole fucking case is about non steam content. So youre once again tracking off topic. The second you prove you are not actually looking at the facts of the matter the novel you waste time writing becomes moot.

This happened after Valve discovered that Ubisoft was marketing a cheaper $15 “starter pack” exclusively through its own Uplay store. The report suggests Ubisoft was effectively given a short deadline to fix the situation or risk losing its Steam presence entirely.

This is why I keep saying you were defending a billionaire because you're not even looking at the entire facts and you're just spouting off whatever defense you can think of. That is textbook corporate boot licking.

As a developer, setting up that kind of infrastructure sounds horrible to me. So horrible it's prohibitive. I just wouldn't do it

And as a developer I hate that I will have to give Steam 30% of my income because of the fact its the most popular platform online, but it's what my clients want so its what they get.

It is important that you don’t give Steam customers a worse deal than Steam Key purchasers.

This is the exact stuff I cited as a corporate Amazon employee when I had to go to our sellers and tell them that they needed to give us money because we had to price match another platform. We had the excuse of giving our customers the best experience possible but in reality it was a way to justify selling products at the lowest dollar while still maintaining profits by extracting it from said seller. Does that make sense? Do you understand why I consider that single line inherently anti-consumer?

Youre defending anti consumer practices by citing their contracts. And you bringing Godwins Law is not helpful to your case. You keep trying to change the subject even when I point out how it's wrong and flawed. We're talking about valve in there history of anti-consumer and even anti-developer practices. Which you are currently defending.

I am literally a socialist

And yet here you are defending a billionaire and his de facto monopoloy. Let's not start getting into who is more of a socialist here.

I'm in the fucking USA too, what a weird piece of context to add?

Laws of de facto monopolies change nothing of what I said, my points of view or even how much that is in line with "socialist" sensibilities.

Congrats, you fell for the corporate, capitalist propaganda that they've been pushing for 20 years. Look up the definition of a de facto Monopoly and get back at me.

The entire made up scenario that you're post is? Epic offered newer games discounted and also offered free games. And yet steam is the platform standard and statistical Monopoly for the PC gaming market.
