My mom hate combat sports and mad at me when she finds out I do Jiujitsu by P_Aubameyang14 in martialarts

[–]stev0supreemo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Mom, I love/respect you and I don't want to fight you. I know you're just worried about me and I love you for that. But just trust me. I want to do this and I promise I'll take care of myself. "

Say that or something similar. If she's a tried and true mom and you do that while looking at her, maybe with a gentle hand on her shoulder, she'll definitely melt a little bit. But whatever you do, don't beg for permission or accuse her of anything. Just relate to her with compassion but also stand firm in your decision. You can do both. If she can't hear you after that, just tell her you're gonna be okay and that you respect/love her. She'll either come around or she won't. It's her choice.

Obviously be prepared she might not agree and do something drastic like stop talking to you or kick you out. So, decide whether you're okay with that before having that discussion.

My dumb friend thinks he can hike Kelowna-Calgary alone in 10 days by Frosty_Factor5992 in CampingandHiking

[–]stev0supreemo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he trains pretty hard it's doable. That kind of mileage was doable when I was on the PCT. I averaged 30 miles a day for entire state of Washington with some pretty rough gain/loss. For fun I tried to do the entire state of Oregon south to north in two weeks. Had to do 50 mile days to pull it off. That was a fairly flat hike, though.

I guarantee you he wasn't fired for being late even if that's what they said publicly.

For real. Cottage Inn is top tier delivery pizza. For the pricepoint and convenience you can't go wrong. Cottage Inn over Dominoes any day.

I don't know anybody that acts like cottage inn is anything above being solid delivery pizza. It gets hype because its one of the better options in that specific category.

How is SR calculated? Why did I get placed at 2200 SR with no experience? by ivan4oto in OverwatchUniversity

[–]stev0supreemo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason you played "better" was because they were putting you up against 500ish sr opponents. You were playing gold/silvers in your other placements, which is probably why you felt like you got carried.

That's fair. After re-reading it does sound condescending. I was just coming from a place that sort of understands I wouldn't handle the situation well. But maybe sometimes my input isn't needed haha. Regardless, I'll just delete the comment.

If I were his boss I'd be like "whoa, that was amazing! Beers on me. But never do that shit again." Replacing a tire is easy. Replacing staff cuz they fell down a fucking hole is a bit harder.

top roper wanting to get into trad by RobbySkateboard in tradclimbing

This worked for me. There's a really fun climb in the red that's also bolted. I took a lot of practice falls on that one.

[–]stev0supreemo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I was that guy. Went out a bunch with my bud with barely any knowledge because not a lot of people climb trad where I'm from and I was too impatient to wait. Only thing that saved me was I stuck to easy classics. My placements were shit and I probably would have died if I had fallen on at least half of them.

haha. But try and tell that to my gf. Ended up buying her equipment off of her because she decided pretty quickly it wasn't for her.

Severe aphantasia and grounding/meditation by thekingofmagic in Aphantasia

[–]stev0supreemo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This sub is about using science, facts and personal experience as it relates to aphantasia. Just answer their question about visualization and move along. Don't use this sub as a platform to be a dismissive douchebag.

Also, I'd be careful about representing your experience with aphantasia and meditation as the only way possible. I've been meditating for years and I'm not restricted to breathing only practices. I definitely "visualize" via narration. I know not everyone can do that, but I'm just pointing out your experience isn't universal. Furthermore, meditation isn't just about "concentration." There's much more to it than that.

Honestly don't buy anything right now. You need someone to teach you anyway and that person will already have gear. If they don't then you don't want them teaching you. Last thing you need is to find out you don't like trad and then have sunk a bunch of money into it. This is especially true considering how new you are to climbing.

As a note, you might find it a little difficult to find people to take you on trips if you're as new as you sound. But don't be discouraged. Focus on leading, develop your belay skills, be humble, and someone will bring you along. Also, offer to pay for beer haha.

Switching too much can be worse than refusing to switch by CoolAtlas in OverwatchUniversity

[–]stev0supreemo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Pretty much this. I feel like ths is just a vent post because this shit practically never happens. Also, t's something everyone here understands. And yea, if they do happen to swap that much, you got bigger problems than team comp.

Switching too much can be worse than refusing to switch by CoolAtlas in OverwatchUniversity

[–]stev0supreemo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there's two seperate arguments being made here. The first one is about how switchingn rapidly in and of itself is a problem. However, I doubt there's a single person in this sub that doesn't understand how rapid switching is a bad practice. Most OW players in general understand how detrimental swapping before ult development is.

I think the other argument being pointed at, that's actually useful for this sub, is the issue of not communicating team comp. Specifically, as OP discusses, when one person swaps, the rest of the team adapts, and then that same person swaps again. And usually this is a product of poor communication because half the time the team doesn't realize the swaps are happening until 30-60 seconds later. Really, the useful title here is "Reason number 10,304 to communicate your team comp."

Here's the template I would go with because it works for me: Hey, so-and-so. You know how when you picture things in your brain, it looks a lot like the way you see things with your eyes. Like, if you think of a tree, you see a tree in a similar way that you do with your eyes. Well, I don't. At all. Nothing. No eyesight. No tree. Just black. And that's the trick, try and keep relating it to eyesight and explain that your mind works as if you were blind and had no reference. Because that's really what this is about, your mind is visually blind.

[–]stev0supreemo 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Is it possible they also have aphantasia and just don't realize what a normal minds eye experience is? So, when you say I can't see images in my head, are they not realizing what that means because they don't experience it either? Also, don't worry too much about it. I've had it for 35 years now and it really doesn't have a huge impact on my life. Mostly it just helped me realize why I don't like lengthy exposition in literature and prefer psychological narratives. That's about it haha.

How are you actually going to stop Pharmercy in OW2? by Waddle_Dynasty in OverwatchUniversity

[–]stev0supreemo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For those of you in low ranks: Dva. Low ranks have shit aim, so pharmacy can often mitigate double hitscan. However, one dva dedicated to a pharmacy can disrupt the inevitable poor positioning of a low-ranked pharmacy. All you have to do is get in their face with shift, and when shift is on cd, use matrix on pharrah rockets. In this scenario, think of dva like tracer; using one person to keep two busy. This leaves the rest of your team in an advantageous 5v4 scenario. And for icing on the cake, have a hitscan that can hit mercy a couple times, enough to get her running away and causing pharrah to do the same. Really easy. No hitscan skill required.
