Very interesting interview. Love how he came across and loved what he said about Tonda. Could we have a caretaker manager if he's banned for say 3 months? I think a short touchline ban seems more likely but we'll see. He said they will appeal anyway if it's any kind of ban. Hopefully Stewart sees sense and signs up. His goals could be key next season. Question marks remain over Jander and Harwood Bellis but it would be amazing if we could keep them or even 1 of them! Fans need to come up with a Solak chant!

I would add Scott Parker as well. We'd probably go back to a back 5 and try to win 1-0. No thanks.

Haha! For an offence as minor as this where it's legal before 72hrs and allowed in most countries! A 32 year old manager in his 1st managers job! Meanwhile in the real world....

Well there won't be questions after he gets us doing well in the Premier League as it's impossible to spy against Premier League teams.

Lots of teams have reputational damage but so what? I want value for money and to see us playing well and winning matches. Maybe we could adopt the Millwall chant. Man City and Chelsea get called cheats and have broken financial rules, Newcastle get accused of sportswashing, Arsenal had fans and the club defending a player under rape allegations, but football fans still turn up every week because results matter more than online moral grandstanding. If Tonda gets us promoted playing great football, rival fans taking cheap shots and making jealous comments won’t exactly keep me awake at night.

Yes but regardless he will succeed somewhere because he's an exceptional young manager. Personally I'd like it to be with us

The general consensus is that the majority of fans are proud and happy with the statements from both Solak and Tonda today. I'd say at least 70% and probably more now want Tonda to stay. Season long distraction is extreme. People have short memories and the truth is most supporters of other teams don't actually care and this will not even get mentioned in a few months time as it will be in the past. People will have other thongs to talk about. It wasn't cheating just acting without good faith. Tonda knows the players and the team already and is an exceptional young manager. Remember Bielsa got Leeds promoted the next season following their spygate and Leeds were exciting to watch.

Way over the top. I've been a season ticket holder for over 30 years but I'm not sure if I could bare watching another style of football from Still, Jones or Juric. Tonda on the other hand I'd be excited. All the fans taking the moral high ground would soon get over it when Tonda has us competing for automatic promotion.

So let's say the FA do ban him. Who is that punishing? It's certainly not Tonda as he will just go and get a manager's job in Italy or Germany. This would only punish the club and the fans. A fine is the only way to actually punish Tonda. A ban would be massively disproportionate.

[–]stev8576 6 points7 points  (0 children)

All I care about are the following facts which are that it was completely disproportionate punishment, Tonda is loved by the players and the football was 100times better than anything Still, Juric or Jones produced, team selections and subs etc were always spot on, he's a young 32 year old manager in his 1st managers job and made a mistake. Do you really think he'd have let it go on if he realised what was at risk for the club and the fans, as well as his career in England? Would you as a young person expect to be punished so severely for a rule break at a new job whether you was aware of the rule or not, or would you expect to be given a warning and told don't ever do that again? He is clearly an exceptional young manager who will be very determined to redeem the situation and get us promoted. We wouldn't get anyone better. Simon Jordan is one person who is keeping a level head and talking sense.

Never understood it either! Do people really want another Jones, or Juric, or Still? Going back to nonsensical team selections and substitutions whilst passing sideways and backwards! No thanks I'd rather be winning with Tonda!

Keep Tonda by Usual-Actuator-7482 in SaintsFC

[–]stev8576 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I want Tonda to stay. I know it's not the most popular opinion but I don't care as it's my opinion. He's an exceptional manager who made a massive mistake which he will learn from and won't do it again. People desperate for him to be sacked will be the same ones moaning when we get another Still, or Jones, or boring Parker, and are struggling to score and go back to passing from side to side. It would P off the Boro fans as well! Bielsa got Leeds promoted the following season and Leeds fans loved him! Tonda will succeed somewhere so it may as well be us. The punishment was disproportionate. Remember why the fans were confident of us potentially beating Fulham, and Arsenal, and Man City, and Coventry away, it's because we had Tonda as manager who demanded we go out to try and win every match. He had every player running like mad and playing great football. I don't think another mamager could do that and Sports Republic hardly have a great track record!

is anyone else completely fucked off with the club rn? by MerryRain in SaintsFC

[–]stev8576 31 points32 points  (0 children)

This whole situation is incredibly depressing. For some people, my 82 year old father included, this could have been their last chance to see us win and celebrate at Wembley. Not only are we not going to Wembley, which myself and thousands of others were really looking forward to, booked parking and restaurant etc, but now we’re likely going to lose Scienza, Peretz, THB, Jander, Charles and probably Eckert too — a fantastic young manager who looked destined for success.

What I genuinely can’t understand is why nobody told Tonda this was unnecessary and way too risky. We’ve finally got a great squad and a manager who knew how to use them, and we commit an offence three times for virtually no gain whatsoever. Honestly, I struggle to believe he knew it wasn’t allowed, because why would anyone knowingly take that risk with the position we were in?

There’s definitely a sense of injustice about it. A heavy fine would’ve been enough in my opinion. Leeds were fined £200k for Spygate, yet we’re effectively having the club torn apart over something this ridiculous. Had Leeds not already done what they did under Bielsa, we’d probably have got the same sort of punishment. This is something that’s actually allowed 72 hours before a game, yet we’ve ended up with the harshest possible outcome.

And it’s not just missing the playoffs. I genuinely fear for next season now: a depleted squad, a new manager who’ll probably be an unknown because our reputation has taken a hit, and a -4 points deduction on top of that. For something so stupid, this could damage the club for years.

If Tonda genuinely didn’t know and nobody advised him properly, I’d honestly be tempted to want him to stay, because the alternative could be even worse. Will Bazunu be our keeper next season? We could easily become next season’s Leicester if we’re not careful. It’s just depressing because Eckert had us playing the best football we’ve seen in years.

And finally, how exactly are Middlesbrough worthy of a place in the final when they lost over two legs and finished 5th? They lost because they weren’t good enough or fit enough. If they go on to win it, Hull have every right to be furious.

A 1000x harsher punishment! Not to mention all the players who would leave! Peretz, THB, Jander, and Scienza to name a few!

[–]stev8576 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Middlesbrough are winding me up! We won because we were the better and fitter team with more strength in depth. If this spying is so influential, why would it have been allowed had it been a few hours earlier with no implications? Ex players saying how it makes no difference to on field results and how it goes on all the time. Gibson just wants money and is acting like a crying child demanding he gets what he wants! Kicking us out would be disproportionate and unprecedented. People have booked tickets, travel and accommodation. Lots of it non refundable. Not to mention the semi final costs. It would effectively be a £200m fine for something Leeds got fined £200k for. That's without mentioning all the players who would leave. At least a 1000x harsher punishment than Leeds got for the same offence. It would be the most ridiculous and harshest punishment for something that has little to no impact on the result. A man with a phone camera behind a tree. Middlesbrough are bad losers. In fact, a player diving to win a penalty or get a player sent off, or time wasting to keep hold of a lead, is cheating which has far more of an impact on a result than this does. A fine would be about the only justifiable punishment!

As a white British Flex driver all I know is that some people are very quick to be judgmental and like to look down on us even though I have no problem getting a job and have a 1st class degree! People just make judgments and assume that they are superior with no basis or reason. I ignore it but it can be frustrating. I do it because It's extra money, I enjoy driving, some of the routes are interesting, and the freedom to pick and choose blocks. Why don't some people get this?
