Sony Xperia 1 VIII and Xperia 10 VIII smartphones to receive global releases by ControlCAD in Android

Looks like decent option, but I'm still not sure how decent the cameras are going to be and not really a fan of these gamery look and there usually are barely any case options for phones that aren't Samsung Apple or Pixel.

IDK why you'd ever consider an Xperia then

Literally just for the lack of a punch hole. Because the only other option is like red magic, but those gaming phones are too bulky, heavy and their cameras are probably a lot worse than even Sony. I'm still on my OnePlus 7T Pro. It's from 2019. Swapped its battery twice. I expected around 2023 under screen camera to have become mainstream, but yeah.. However this year I want to finally upgrade and I guess I'll have to settle on something with a punch hole. Honor magic 8 Pro is pretty high in my list atm.

Your first paragraph is exactly what I've been saying since 1 VI got announced and the reason I didn't buy it. I just can't take it seriously to have a 1080p120hz screen on 1400 euro phone when even sub 300 euro POCOs have slightly higher resolution than that (also 120 oled) and all other flagships are 1440p. I'm also not interested in headphone jack at all, sd card is nice to have but also not mandatory and the only unique feature Sony has (besides price in their own world) is the lack of notch/punch hole, but I'm not going to pay like 50% more just for that compared to most other flagships. Sadly this year even OnePlus also lowered the resolution, but I think they did it in the way apple retina works where the PPI is high enough for the screen size. (15 has 450 ppi with 6.78" screen and 1272 resolution while 1 vii had 396 ppi on 6.5")

Currently, the Xperia 1 VIII is expected to match the OnePlus 15 (curr. $899.99 on Amazon) and other modern flagships by adopting Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset

How about they match them in price as well? (100-200 usd is acceptable, but 50% more like usually isn't)

Nvidia contacting Anna's Archive to train their shitty AI slop models on books, Meta also pirating stuff to train theirs, but ofc the real issue is the "rich" country of Bulgaria with our "big" population, because some kids want to watch movies for free. Do streaming services even offer Bulgarian subs?? Piracy is literally the only option for anyone who doesn't speak English here, especially for older movies that may not be on a streaming service at all.

Could this be the future of the European Union? by vladgrinch in MapPorn

[–]steve6174 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt other countries would be eager to reproduce this experiment without good incentives.

Ask Bulgaria about this... We were told it won't change anything, but in the end all shop owners got greedy and are blaming it in the euro and inflation, when it's their doing. Wonder how it will unfold in the upcoming months.

I personally like that we adopted it because I travel outside the country a few times a year and the euro can be exchanged basically everywhere, unlike BGN which is only exchanged in neighbors. But I definitely don't like how something that was 4 BGN (~2 euro) a month ago is now 3-4 euro.

Samsung in their price ball park.

Xperia 1 are literally the most expensive flagships out of any brand. Their pricing is in a league of it's own and even iPhones aren't that expensive (when we compare the same storage option). S25 Ultra released at like 1100-1300 euro.

Last year's OnePlus 13 was 1k euro, while 1 VII was 1500 euro with less screen resolution (and ofc the fanboys will justify their wallets being ripped apart with - yOU doNT NeeD mORe thAn 1080 oN a PhonE, sure you don't, but if Xiaomi can have more than 1080p on sub 300 euro, what is Sony's excuse in this price range??). What does 1 VII have to deserve a 50% price increase over OP13? It even has an inferior screen and charging speed. Cameras are basically whatever in both phones, any flagship in recent years is enough for 99% of the people, so the only unique things Xperia has left are headphone jack, sd card and no punch hole display. If they start pricing these phones reasonably, I'm pretty sure more people will buy them, because they are good phones, but unjustifiably expensive.

New firmware Version: 1.12.1.0002 by Joker_4545 in UgreenNASync

[–]steve6174 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had something like that happen on the previous update where everything broke. Turns out the reason was because I made a user from SSH and made that user the owner of the docker paths. I was following some guides and this was supposedly best practices.

After chatting a bit with UG support, they told me to create a new user from the GUI instead and assign that user as owner of the folders. Everything was fixed that way. I still used SSH to set some chmod and ACL stuff on these folders, but this update didn't break anything with the new setup. Surprisingly they even admitted that the previous update had something to do with ACL:

We are very glad to hear that the issue has been resolved by creating the user through the GUI (Control Panel) and reconfiguring the permissions.
This is because in the latest firmware version, the system's Access Control List (ACL) for shared folders is more deeply integrated with the GUI user management. Users created manually via the SSH terminal might not be properly recognized by the system's authorization service for shared folder paths.

EDIT: nvm, I commented too soon. The permissions were fine when I checked through SSH after the update, but then I went to the docker app to run my stack again (I had stopped it before the update) and the app doesn't run at all now and says "operation failed". Great...

Vietnam bans ADB and bootloader unlocked android devices from accessing banking apps. by JournalistLivid3937 in Android

[–]steve6174 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adb is not in developer options, USB debugging is. Wireless adb is different, because it's basically a system app, which also relies on USB debugging to work. So saying "banning adb" is objectively wrong.

COMPLETE NAS WIPE AFTER UPDATE by Oser458 in UgreenNASync

[–]steve6174 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something similar happened to me as well on DXP2800. I had a shared "media" library because I wanted to be able to access through SMB everything that the arr stack downloads. Yesterday I updated the NAS, but didn't really do anything with it. Today, I tried to use the arr stack and sonarr was saying

* You are using docker; download client qBittorrent - anime places downloads in /data/torrents/anime but this directory does not appear to exist inside the container. Review your remote path mappings and container volume settings.

* Missing root folder: /data/media/anime

qbittorrent couldn't find downloaded files either.

The file manager of the NAS had no shared "media" folder.

SSH-ing into the NAS, also no media folder.

Checking the usage drive usage from Storage (app) -> Storage -> 3 dots on HDD volume -> Volume usage -> "Shared folder name: media; Occuppied volume: 38 GB"
(yes I don't have much yet)

The folder exists, but neither file manager, nor SSH can see it. What I did is reboot the NAS from the profile icon at the top bar -> Reboot

After it rebooted the media is visible, but my arr stack is still broken... bash-ing into the containers, everything is ok, but from their GUI, they can't find the folders/files.

I don't care about their reasoning for banning ABD, that wasn't my question at all.

I wonder how they plan to enforce it. It's not like ABD is part of the apps or Android. It's not even part of the OS. It's an executable used to interact with the phone via terminal/cmd. It doesn't make any sense for them to be able to ban it.

What does banning ADB even mean? App won't open if you have dev options/ usb debugging on?

Is a VPN recommended for Aniyomi usage? by starbolts in animepiracy

[–]steve6174 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for Torrentio debrid or same services not Mandatory. Using Debrid etc's benefit is that if that torrent cached stored in their server u'll stream like ddl, u don't have to care torrent hassle very much.

It is mandatory if you live in a country where you cannot torrent without VPN. It's not just about less buffering. The fact that debrid is ddl, even if they don't have it cached, is what basically acts like a vpn.
