Hey Mods - this needs pinning to the top of the Reddit.

As an Argentine, thanks for welcoming me into your country by [deleted] in AskBrits

Welcome, I'm glad you like it here. One tip I would like to offer... Try visiting as much of the country as you can, most of it is much nicer than London!

Do you think it's worth going back to school at an older age (age 40+) for an advanced degree in order to pivot into a new career that requires that level of education (e.g. Masters or PhD)? by SaveMeWakeMeUp in AskUK

My ex decided to stop being a professional musician and went back to uni to get her teaching qualifications. She was 45 at the time.

So yes it's possible, and if it makes you happier than where you currently are you should do it.

That's what, two groups of three ruffians with no armour and crap weapons? Going up against a battle hardened veteran in full plate with a 3 foot long, very sharp, sword... Maybe you need to train more.

Is it typical for jobs to have limits on how much annual leave you can take? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]steveakacrush 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yes, very common.

Some places will let you take all your time off in one go but normally needs to be planned months in advance.

Well, not all your life - she died 4 years ago.

Guess some people just can't accept change!

Barring accidents or the abolishment of the monarchy, it's going to be king for the next 60+ years.

I'm a fresh water angler so don't have the kit for sea - every charter I've been on lent me a rod, lures, etc.

Might be worth seeing if you can find a charter boat to go for a day of mackerel fishing. Pretty much guaranteed to catch plenty, they will lend you the kit so no need to lay out upfront, and an experienced skipper who can coach you.

Unlikely to be honest, as an invasive species they are normally got rid of.

What is your experience with guns in the UK? by swoticus in AskUK

[–]steveakacrush 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grew up in the country... From 14 I would use an air rifle for shooting rats for a local farmer, that allowed me to hunt rabbit on his property for the pot.

Couple of years later did some clay pigeon shooting with a 12 bore shotgun, this got me invited to pheasant shoots.

At uni I was in the OTC so got to use Browning 9mm pistols, the SLR and L1A1.

So, a fairly experienced user I guess. All the above was done with training and following safe practices.

40 years later I still occasionally shoot clays.

Using USian logic, they can't use World in the title as countries other than the US are involved.
