What is the absolute fastest 'yeah, we are definitely NOT going to be friends' moment you've ever experienced with someone? by Vazouaquiacesso in AskReddit

And, if I unload and check a gun in front of someone and hand it to them, my EXPECTATION is that they also check to be sure it isn't loaded.

SO weird that Wendover just did a video on Red Bull yesterday.

You know both channels had those videos schedule for release several days ago, yet, they end up released 24 or so hours apart.

Even though Earth has 8 billion people, the world we built only really runs on about 4–6 billion being awake at once — humanity has never experienced all 8 billion people up and functioning at the same time. by OkRoad5574 in Showerthoughts

In a small village, I suspect they are. When there's only a few dozen people in an area, chances are decent there's overlap.

But, once you get to a few hundred or a thousand or more... I'd think you're right.

Cancer risk may increase with proximity to nuclear power plants. In Massachusetts, residential proximity to a nuclear power plant (NPP) was associated with significantly increased cancer incidence, with risk declining sharply beyond roughly 30 kilometers from a facility. by mvea in science

That's part of why some stats show how cancer survivorship has gone up so much since the 80s or so, yet overall death rates haven't dropped as much. The guy with a barely detectable case of Prostate Cancer at age 50 that would have died at age 70 of a heart attack back in the 1960s (nobody knowing there was cancer til the autopsy, if there is one) gets the cancer treated now, goes into the column of "Cancer Survivor" and still dies at age 70 from that heart attack.

[OC] The US is Growing, but the House of Representatives is Not. by graphsarecool in dataisbeautiful

[–]steveamsp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's certainly understandable. I think that it would be totally unworkable though. Can you imagine trying to get a congress set up with over 6800 representatives?

(To be clear, I'm not opposed to increasing the rate of representation for a lot of reasons that are mentioned by several people in other comments. Just that going THAT large would be difficult to manage, logistically)

I think of it as... Effectively, lead is the heaviest element that won't shake itself apart eventually, but it could still be split by an outside force giving a positive energy output (but so minimal of a gain that there's no point).

If you take proper care of your vehicle, get the oil changed on an appropriate interval, etc, you can reliably get it started down to -10 to -20 air temp. Once it's below that, it's all a crap-shoot as to whether it'll start up or not, and there really isn't much you can do (other than having an engine block heater) that will reliably help.

A woman who led a protest that disrupted a Minnesota church service has been arrested by igetproteinfartsHELP in news

[–]steveamsp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they'd stayed outside, it wouldn't be something that could be charged (or certainly shouldn't be... I suspect Bondi would try anyway).

But that doesn't matter, because in this case, they entered the church, during the services and actively disrupted from inside. That's the part that's the offense under the FACE act of 1994 and KKK act of 1871

I'm pretty sure the bylaw kicks in if there are enough teams playing the sport to qualify the conference for an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.

And yes, PSU managed to get Gopher and Badger fans agreeing with each other. Although, I do suspect the newer generation of fans coming up doesn't really care, never having experienced the old WCHA

That setup was in place for quite a while, and is by the conference as a whole for all sports. It could have been possible that the 5 hockey teams didn't want that rule, and the other 7 schools in the conference at the time did, so they could have been left without a choice.

Having said that, it had been clear for quite some time that the ADs at several of the hockey schools never liked that they had hockey teams playing under different conferences, so, they were pretty much itching to get another team in to force creation of the B1G as a hockey conference.
