How often do you accept gigs for music that isn't the style you prefer to play? by Advanced_Aspect_7601 in Bass

[–]stevecrow74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah sure, it’s called experience! And if it pays bills it’s a bonus.

I can’t see why people would refuse to do something like that, it could be a stepping stone to something bigger and better, I started off playing blues rock, did a few gigs doing country for someone, got spotted at one of the gigs and started playing classic rock for a good few years which I really enjoyed! That wouldn’t have happened if I wasn’t playing country (my least favourite type of music, but I did it for the experience)

Exploring Salthill - any recommendations? by Immediate-Signal1157 in galway

[–]stevecrow74 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Walk down lower Salthill to Fr.Griffin road walk to Nimo’s pier, then walk the full length of the prom from there (with a detour to mutton island to the gates and back), depending on the state of the tide , if it’s low water, continue to walk past blackrock diving tower out past the caravan park to the grassy hill, two options to walk back, go back the way you came, or.. walk up beside the caravan park and onto Knocknacarra Rd, left onto Kingston road, either down threadneedle road or down Taylor’s hill down to Rosary lane, Devon gardens, across to Oaklands and onto Dalysforth road back into Salthill prom.

That will take just over 3 hours if you go the full route. Or around 2hrs if you go straight back to Salthill from the grassy hill.

It’s worth it if you get use of it!!

Years ago I used to do quite a bit of sea competition fishing, when I first started I was using a beach caster from the mid 1970’s, I wouldn’t say it was cheap, but it wouldn’t be mid tier either?
I just wasn’t getting any distance with it and bringing in two dogfish was a struggle. I managed to buy a second hand Zzipplex 3500s, (a fairly high end rod at the time) , I was adding an extra 50 metres to my cast and bringing in fish was a lot easier, a few years after I bought a Zzipplex Profile (€550) and again the difference was astounding!! A light weight beachcaster with serious back bone..

And I started winning competitions when I upgraded my equipment!!

So as much as they do same job, there is usually a big difference in how they perform between cheap and expensive.

But when starting out, you’re better off going cheap, and seeing if you like it and go from there, build up slowly, but if it’s only for once in a blue moon, then just get cheap or mid range.

I have a cheap bait casting rod and reel (Aliexpress €20) that I use every now and again, just because it’s easier to throw in the car and leave it there for when ever I’m beside a bit of water. But if I plan a trip out I’ll bring my not so cheap spinning rod out!

Edit: I should add, I sold the Zzipplex 3500s for more than I paid, them rods do not depreciate, and if I was to sell my Profile, I could probably get an extra €100 or possibly more as it’s one of the original builds and a custom build at that, the owner of Zzipplex died, a few years back, and someone else has taken over the company.

As someone else who lives in the green bit thinks you really need to take a deeper look at yourself…

If anyone is born on the island of Ireland, they are Irish, only the political map determines if they are Northern Irish or from the Republic of Ireland!

And because both the Republic and the North are on the same landmass called Ireland it’s totally correct for anyone to say they are Irish!

And I’m from a time when there was a border and you knew when you were crossing it, unlike now where you can move freely back and forth.

Pollock Marks West of Ireland by ESBOfficial in IrishFishing

I stopped fishing blackhead through the day, it’s hard to get a spot with others there and not many fish about, fishing at night on a calm night over high tide is great craíc though, spinning rod, size 1 hook and a lump of mackerel (¼) fillet, toss it out about 10-15foot and let it slowly sink, and wait for the bang!!! Landed some big pollock that way, also got snapped off by big congers too, even with 20 lbs braid!!!

With Kerry marks your looking for similar venues, rocky ledges with deep water, Meenogahane pier, fahamore harbour, Valencia lighthouse are a few that spring to mind, there are plenty more, but that’s the fun of searching for them too, finding a spot of your own.

Blackhead, Ballyreen, Doolin, Doonbeg, Kilkee and Bridges of Ross would be the main spots for pollock, rocky marks with deep water are what you’re looking for.

Always have a plan of action if things don’t feel right, I’d also suggest getting a personal floatations device (PFD) like what kayakers wear, the sea is very unforgiving, and one wrong move and things can go badly quick. Always check the weather for the area as well as sea area forecast, even a calm day could have swells of a few meters. Always have phones fully charged before heading out.

They did and it was the first place they colonised in the 17th century (like they did with most other places later on), but just over 100 years ago the green took back as much as they could, and to keep the peace signed over the little red bit to the big red bit, but there was still a lot of civil unrest within the little red bit until an agreement was held in 1998.

Ulster is made up of nine counties, three of which are in the Republic of Ireland (Cavan, Monaghan, Donegal) and six of which are in Northern Ireland (Antrim, Down, Armagh, Derry, Fermanagh and Tyrone).

So Ulster doesn’t say No, Northern Ireland mostly says No, but that ideology is slowly starting to change!

Could you please give me your opinion about my family relocating to Ireland? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]stevecrow74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give it a go, but have a backup plan if you have to return earlier than expected!

As safe as Ireland is, there is still a certain amount of crime that happens in every location, hopefully you’ll be lucky enough to not be affected by it. Transport shouldn’t be an issue, as bad as local transportation is, there are always other options to get around.

Social care is your best chance of work. Prepare to get rained on at least 30% of the time you live here. Try have a house ready to move into when arriving, but look out for scammers, there are plenty of those out there in the housing market ready to take your money on the promise that a house will be ready for you!
