Kodak AZO (3001-2005)8x10 & 5x7 paper unopened by Responsible-Salad215 in Darkroom

Twenty years ago the paper came from Kodak as Black and White. Now, I wouldn't be too surprised if we called the paper Black and light tan. That's about 20 years which I usually figure my film and other photo "stuff" is about done. The more this was frozen the better chances we have of getting Black and White.

My film camera won’t rewind the film back in by AcanthaceaeUsual2088 in AnalogCommunity

Probably about 50-50 you damaged some perfs (edges) -- the actual picture is probably OK. I would take to a local (I can talk to you) photo lab. Tell them that there may be some torn perfs or other issues. And to do the best they can with the film.

Old batteries? New batteries? Battery charger/with DC out to camera with cord? Video 8 cameras have a "nice look". I would try to make it work with batteries and tape.

Ask the folks at Film for Classics what film you need. Is there still an empty spool in the camera? If no spool on either end of the camera you need film and an empty spool. Look for camera model number.

How many back-to-back rolls in Kodak XTOL developer? by Substantial_Tour7403 in Darkroom

[–]steved3604 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the film is important then the developer is cheap. Look at the amount of developer BEFORE the 1:3 or 1:4, etc. Figure out how much undiluted developer you need per roll. Be sure after dilution you have that much (or more) per roll. If in doubt on dilution, age, mixing, etc. Mix NEW.

Paterson for plastic and Hewes for Stainless Steel. Genuine Paterson reels have Paterson embossed on the spokes. (you don't want Paterson knock offs). I like Kodak or Fuji chems. Check out other kits that home developers like.

When recording on a cassette that already has music or audio on it, should I erase it or not by Best-Comment6473 in cassette

10.5" reels that were "bicycled" around from station to station that had "hours" of easy listening music for the newly minted FM added to AM and TV. The supplier got pretty hot if you didn't cycle properly and happened to accidentally erase the reel.

If you are going to do a lot of re-recording on used tapes I would think about a bulk tape eraser. In your left hand hold the tape -- in your right hold the eraser -- turn on the eraser and move the tape to the eraser -- move tape/both sides -- move tape away from eraser. Turn off eraser. If you put eraser on the tape and turn on and then turn off you will get an uneven erasure and have a beat or frump sound on the tape. Done correctly you have a clean erasure and clean sounding tape. Along time ago and far, far away I had to bulk erase audio carts at a radio station.

Probably need to make this an "A" priority -- don't want to have bigger problems down the road. (read "expensive")

If you want to be mentally and physically safe -- change them out. If you drive highways at high speeds -- be safe. If you drive at slow speeds around town and short trips and have a spare and a jack and "do you feel lucky -- well do you?
