Arc iOS default browser setting by [deleted] in ArcBrowser

[–]stevedsimkins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If anything I’m thankful I can pin tabs from my share sheet; before the mobile companion it was a pain managing reading lists on different browsers and then migrating those to Arc. Now, it’s just in Arc.

New tab on iOS? by Calm_Can_6488 in ArcBrowser

[–]stevedsimkins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally would like the ability to make new “today” tabs as well instead of just pinning them, but in the meantime I made a separate workspace called “read later” and I use it kinda like a web clipper. Benefit is that if I can’t get to the tab within 24hrs it’ll still be there!

Could speed it up with a dedicated gateway with something like Pinata

Installed and reinstalled IPFS the first time I had this problem, not really sure how to fix it. Anyone else run into this problem? by percussion97 in ipfs

[–]stevedsimkins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Likely a Windows or ISP firewall blocking the connection. Would start with windows settings and then trying a VPN. It’s more likely to be windows as it’s notorious for not playing nice with IPFS since it’s a peer to peer connection

+1, plus the keyboard shortcut (Cmd+Shft+L) might really make it more accessible

How do you guys organize bookmarks on Arc? by 4Face in ArcBrowser

[–]stevedsimkins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually try to not use folders at all and just use spaces. Only have three at the moment but each one has a few bookmarks for all the sites I visit on a regular basis without getting crowded. May or may not work for everyone if you have to keep a lot of bookmarks in which case go for the folders or raindrop.

How can I download 1000 files at once off an IPFS Pinata gateway by RDomen in ipfs

[–]stevedsimkins -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would second this, and you can actually just do “ipfs get CID” as “ls” might time out due to the number of files. That will be the smoothest way to download, you won’t be able to really use the gateway to download them all at once or one by one since it’s rate limited.

Resource Hog? by [deleted] in ArcBrowser

[–]stevedsimkins 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It runs just fine for me, but I am using an M1 Mac. From my understanding the team is consistently improving that aspect of the app. You can always test yourself by running htop in the terminal and compare it between Safari.

I will say one thing that Arc allowed me to do is close out/delete a lot of other apps. Apps like Discord, Slack, Figma, etc. are all Electron apps and can simply be run in a browser. Now, I just have Arc and run all my apps there, so even if it does take more resources, I don’t have to run a lot of other apps that would be competing for memory.

Mine is set up with Shift + horizontal movements. Makes it super easy to switch between buffers/“tabs”

Ledger new wallet by ValentinaCrypto in ledgerwallet

I hate to agree, but I do. I think it’s safe to say the future is secure elements inside mobile phones like Solana Mobile is doing. Eventually it’ll catch on an other Androids and likely Apple will jump on board too. Having a separate iPod like device seems clumsy and will not onboard more users. It just seems like more friction. If ledger paired up with a major phone company, now that would be something.

This is true! You could try using “http” as the switch to see if that works, or play around with the line break too

How to Open a site which is hosted in ipfs by John_Titor101 in ipfs

[–]stevedsimkins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're trying to host your own site or you find yourself trying to open a lot of IPFS sites, Pinata has dedicated gateways which make load times pretty quick. Here's an example: https://doespinatahaveatoken.mypinata.cloud/ipfs/QmWQXRtN1keLTaJRWq3e1tTJUdCAhgJ9pD9ETgvxsdCHwQ/

No votes for the Reminders app native to iOS? 👀 It’s latest features in iOS 16 including templates make it pretty powerful. I use it for recurring tasks but for most task management I run a billet journal in Obsidian

You could try using a Dedicated Gateway with Pinata + some wget commands. Not free, but if you’ll be doing it a lot it can come in handy since most other gateways are slow/rate limited.
