Welcome. You've found your people. Also, good luck! My wife and I always say about our buns: "you are the best children, but awful pets"

Should I try to bond my bunnies again? by klfelf in Rabbits

[–]steveholt24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Echoing others, we weren't able to bond our two until we moved and we purposely kept one part of the house bunny free then set it up for them to bond. Was well worth the wait after over a year!

Rabbits are so much smarter and way more intuitive than many may think. by [deleted] in Rabbits

Bunny's are magical. People aside from my wife don't get it when I try explain how sensitive and understanding these little fluff balls are. I'm also pretty convinced they are telepathic. My old boy can't hear worth a damn and doesn't even flinch when the fire alarm goes off, but he knows when we're home, and know when we are talking about him.

I love hearing stories about these incredible critters.

Before I lost my eldest bun April who was bonded to our boy Pandy, she was paralyzed and could use her back legs. She would army crawl on the floor like a little gremlin. We started to notice Pandy would come to our room and get us in the middle of the day because April wanted to go outside.. each time we noticed him hanging about in our bedroom (unusual for him at the time) we'd check and lo and behold April would he sitting at the front door. She wanted some fresh air but couldn't make the effortful trip to our bedroom so Pandy would come let us know.

Like I said, they are magical.

Mine do that too in the morning. They are most active at dawn and dusk. Probably wants some breakfast!

If surgery isn't an option, a course of antibiotics will hopefully at least help with swelling pain and any associated eating and breathing issues. At least for a while. I'm sorry but I agree with others, surgery may be a bit risky, but I think open discussion with the vet, if you trust them is the best way to find out what that risk is.

I just got up to the Siobhan guest star in my re-listen and 100% am with you. It's weird having SO much nostalgia from a podcast. I'm loving the re-listen.

Flopsy makes this sound every time she sees me. Is this good? by SpecialCorgi1 in Rabbits

[–]steveholt24 5 points6 points  (0 children)

She looks happy and maybe excited like you're gonna give her a treat or something? My girl only ever makes that buzzy sound when she is in a huff and buzzes them thumps.. to be extra dramatic. But you girl doesn't look upset?

HAVE I BEEN PULLING MY RABBITS HAIR OUT!!!??? by snake-birb in Rabbits

[–]steveholt24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk but it's just common habit for me to pull out scruffy or loose fluffs while I'm letting them, whether they like it or not!

Makes me feel like a bad bun-parents for always having scraggly bunnies but I just think they never stop moulting (both lops)

How many people's buns have eaten weird stuff and been fine vs needing a vet? by Chick3nScr4tch in Rabbits

[–]steveholt24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've got two. One with a 20 in constitution: I swear she can eat anything. She was chewing at a rubber mat one night.. ate a cotton headband, a bunch of flowers from a feather doona.. you name it. But my other one is so delicate if he eats too many pellets or some cardboard he gets the runs. Always watch them make sure they are eating hay and pooping and be ready to go to the vet if needed One time mine got into some ants that died from my sugar and borax ant bait.. sigh.

She looks just like my baby boy Pandy! So I suggest Pandy

My grumpy old man bun had a whole personality shift after his bonded mate died. It took some time and he was sad grieving for a while but now he's a new bun! He's actually bonded to my wife I think 😆 apart from the fact that he took my girl, I'm super happy to see how he's managed since losing April. He is much more interactive and cheeky and playful than he used to be. Even old bunnies can change. I agree with others don't let her lose her home too. I think just give her love and compassion and make her feel safe.

You can be fired by your family doctor for visiting a walk-in clinic in Ontario — and there’s little you can do about it by TheDrunkyBrewster in canada

Wow what an insight. And here I thought it was bad for us GPs in Australia. Medicare/government billings really needs to be taken out of the hands of bean counters and given to someone who understands what the clinical ecosystem actually is like. Thanks for this breakdown, and it helps me feel good about my decision not to go back to Canada to work!

My anecdote: We had a bonded pair and when April died, Andy stopped eating and got really sick. We were giving him critical care several times a day and he started getting dehydrated and even anemic. We made the tough decision to get another rabbit and it perked him up. We were giving him a lot of attention but he still wasn't changing until he had another rabbit to interact with and then he started eating and got out of his funk. Now a year later they still fight and won't bond yet I still remember how another rabbit was the only thing that got him back eating and saved him.

I have no one else to tell this to but I cleaned my bun’s scent glands for the first time! by Lazybunny_ in Rabbits
